Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time The readings for the Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time confront the issue of the exploitation of the poor. Throughout Israel’s history, prophetic voices cried out against the social injustices that left many marginalized and vulnerable to those in power unwilling to defend the less fortunate. The second reading is once again taken from Paul’s First Letter to Timothy. We hear Paul request that prayers and petitions be offered for all, including “kings and for all in authority.” He hopes to persuade his community to accept and promote a peaceful assimilation within the larger social structures of the Roman Empire by affirming this course of action as “good and pleasing to God our Savior.” The Gospel reading is the parable of the dishonest steward. Like many of Jesus’ parables, the ending is unexpected. The “rich man” (i.e., God) actually ends up praising the dishonest steward for acting “prudently” with the limited resources and limited time he had available as a result of his deceitful dealings with the rich man’s property and debtors. In his unpacking of the parable with his disciples, Jesus makes the point that service to God and service to riches are incompatible with those who wish to be called disciples of the Lord. True and lasting wealth is achieved in the service of God and neighbor.

Farewell from Fr. Diaz After more than twelve years of ministry at the Church of St. Thomas More, I would like to inform you that I am leaving the parish on September 27th.
With this, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for being part of what I am right now as a priest. I spent more than half of my priestly ministry at this church. I will miss you and assure you that you will always be remembered in my prayers.
