Today’s Readings First Reading — You shall not oppress an alien, for you yourselves were once aliens in Egypt (Exodus 22:20-26). Psalm — I love you, Lord, my strength (Psalm 18). Second Reading — You became imitators of the Lord, so that you became a model for all believers (1 Thessalonians 1:5c-10). Gospel — You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:34-40).

Sunday Evening Rosary Come pray the Rosary with us. The Rosary enriches us with graces and purifies our soul. All are welcome to attend on Sunday evening at 7:45pm. Meet in the church.

October 29, 2017 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

EX 22: 20-26; PS 18: 2-4, 47, 51; 1 THES 1: 5C-10; MT 22: 34-40

In today’s Gospel Reading from St. Matthew, a lawyer among the Pharisees again tries to entrap Jesus by asking Him the question, “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest.” Jesus’ response appears multiple times in Holy Scripture, as He says, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” The Lord then adds another that He cites as almost equally important, “You shall

love your neighbor as yourself.”

Much has been written and conjectured about both of these, and often the focus is on who our neighbor is. However, there is another element of the second Great Commandment that is worthy of note, and that is loving the neighbor “as yourself.” Too often people conclude that this means that you have to love yourself first.

Most of us grasp what it means to the love the Lord with all we are, although it is nearly unattainable to accomplish. However, that second Great Commandment does not mean that it is necessary for us to love ourselves before we can love anyone else. It means, quite simply, that most of us are concerned with our own interests and our own personal situations. Jesus is telling us that just as we often think of ourselves, we need to take care and have concern for the interests of others as well.

In the familiar Prayer of St. Francis known to many Catholics, we sum up what this kind of love to which we are called really is, when we pray, “Lord, grant that I might not so much seek to be loved, as to love.”

God bless you and have a great week! Fr. Richards

Weekend Collection for October 21 & 22, 2017

Thank you members of St. Albert’s for your

generous financial support of our local church.

World Mission Sunday—Thank you for expressing your missionary spirit by offering gifts of support during World Mission Sunday. Our parish collected $235 to help bring good news to small, young and often poor mission dioceses worldwide Mission of the Little Flock. If you did not come prepared last week but would still like to contribute to this appeal, please bring your donation in a marked envelope and place it in the regular collection. Thank you for your generosity.

Thank you to all who generously gave to the Wayne Kolles Benefit. Donated items for the silent and live auction were more than overwhelming. Thank you to Broaster Catering for

the delicious spaghetti dinner, and Andy’s Pizza for delivering the tasty pizza. A special thank you to Father Richards, Father McCabe, and Deacon Dupay for their prayers and support. Thank you to our family, our relatives and parish community that made this event possible. May God Bless everyone. May He draw close to you with His protection, His guidance and Love. Wayne, Mary Lou and Family

All Saints Eve Celebration Once again we will be celebrating on the Eve of the Feast of The Saints' on Tuesday, October 31, at the Parish Center beginning with pizza and refreshments at 6:00 pm. You are welcome to come at anytime between 6:00-8:00 pm. Children will receive candy bags and have opportunities for a fun filled evening winning prizes while learning of the beauty and selflessness surrounding the Lives of The Saints. Please Join Us! Costumes are available through Autom religious store online and also Oriental Trading, but a bathrobe works just as well or just come as yourself with no costume at all. Our focus is on the Fatima Apparitions this year, so dressing as plain as Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco or as splendid as The Immaculate Conception would be quite appropriate. Pray for Peace! If you are able to volunteer, please contact Andrea at [email protected] or 763-497-2745 x216. Thank you!

The Fourth Pillar underlying the Church of St. Albert is Service: The Bible says three times (in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and John) that Jesus

“did not come to be served, but to serve". Can it be any different for us? Why is it that we feel SATISFACTION when were are helping, serving, or giving to

somebody in need? What area of need are you being called to serve? What are some ways that you see St. Albert’s could grow as a parish to better serve the needs of the wider community?

Early Bulletin Deadlines for November: The November 12 Bulletin deadline is Noon on November 2, the November 19 Bulletin deadline is Noon on November 9 and the November 26 Bulletin, Noon on November 15.

Prayer Ministry—For anyone who would like to be prayed with for any specific needs, a prayer ministry team will be available in the parish library on Sunday, November 5 after the 9:00am Mass. “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20) If you have any questions, please contact the parish office at 763-497-2474. Come, See & Experience TLC! All Parishioners are welcome to attend the message part of our TLC Session on either Sunday, November 5 from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm or Wednesday, November 8 from 7:15 to 8:15 pm as we listen and learn from teacher, speaker and author, Jeff Cavins. This year’s topic is the Bible and Salvation History. Each session includes a 30 minute talk & small group discussion. It’s a great opportunity to grow in your faith and understanding of scripture. Come and experience the community, hospitality, faith sharing, and renewed desire to learn the faith at St. Albert’s!

Winter Wear Collection Winter is fast approaching and soon we will have a need for hats, scarves, and mittens. There are many adults and children who go without the warmth of these items. There will be a collection box in the Narthex of Church for any donations of new or slightly used (in good shape) hats, scarves, and mittens for these children. Please call Chris at 763-497-3662 with any questions.
