Holy days usually at 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. (Please check the bulletin or website.)

Becoming a Catholic or Adult Confirmation Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Were you never Confirmed and now find that you would like to complete your Sacraments of Initiation? Are you interested in finding out more about the Catholic faith? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, then Faith Formation is for you! Call the Parish Center for more information.

Baptism Baptisms are celebrated on various Sundays throughout the year at 1:15 p.m. You are encouraged to register for the baptism BEFORE YOUR CHILD IS BORN, so that it is easier to attend the required Baptism Preparation Class. Please call the Center and we will be happy to set up an appointment. Many parents also use this opportunity to register in the Parish as a new parishioner. Information about Godparents is available on the website.

Marriage We are happy to arrange for your wedding. First, we have the marriage interview and then we can set the date for the wedding. More information is available on the website. Please call the Center for an appointment and we will be happy to help you!

Reconciliation Confessions are heard in our Church Reconciliation Room (in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel) on Saturdays from 4:00 until 4:45 p.m. You are also welcome to call the Center and make an appointment to celebrate the Sacrament.

Anointing of the Sick We encourage all those eligible for this Sacrament to be anointed after the Noon Mass on the first Sunday of the month or by calling the Center. Those eligible are those who are about to undergo an operation; are suffering from serious illness and the condition has worsened; or are enduring the weakening effects of advancing age and it has been one year since they were last anointed.

Bulletin Reflection Today’s second reading reminds us that we

are the adopted sons and daughter (the

heirs) of God. We are good stewards of

our inheritance when we share our faith

and fulfill Our Lord’s command to “go...and

make disciples of all the nations.”

Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards

in our parish who recognize that life is a

gift from God and a sacred trust. “What

are you going to do today with your gift of

News From Your Respect Life Committee…….. How can we help women wounded by past abortions?

The St. Elizabeth Respect Life Committee, in conjunction with the St. Elizabeth Catholic Daughters and members of St. Patrick and St. Matthew Churches recently assembled 50 beautiful gift bags for the Sisters of Life Spiritual Motherhood Luncheon.

The gift bags were filled with generous donations of exquisite bracelets, Dunkin Donut cards, hats, jewelry, hand-crocheted washcloths, scented soaps and Metro cards as well as beautiful hand-written notes from our Committee members and those of the Catholic Daughters. These gift bags were delivered to the Sisters of Life, who, in turn, give them to women going through a particularly difficult time.

Interested in joining our Committee so that you can help? Contact Kathy and Bob Kaufmann, co-Chairs of our Respect Life Committee at 631.549.8121 or email [email protected].

The Diocese of Rockville Centre will hold its next Day of Prayer and Healing for Women (after abortion)

on Saturday, June 9, beginning at 9:00 a.m. For more information and to register, visit respectlife.drvc.org

Welcome

Seminarian Matthew Browne

The parish community of St. Elizabeth extends a warm welcome to Seminarian

Matthew Browne. Matthew will be with us through July. Here’s a short

background on him! Matthew Browne is a native Long Islander--born in Queens but raised in Valley Stream. He has been a

parishioner of Holy Name of Mary his entire life where he has been very involved in different ministries such as being an Altar Server, Lector, Sacristan, and more. Matthew is a product of Catholic High School, having graduated Kellenberg Memorial High School, operated by the Marianists, in 2011. Throughout his life, Matthew’s grandmother always encouraged him to discern the priesthood, but desiring a normal family life, he ignored the idea of a vocation. After his grandmother passed away in 2009, a newly-ordained priest, Fr. Rob Ketcham, was assigned to Matthew’s parish, and encouraged him to consider the priesthood as a possible vocation. Seeing Fr. Rob’s zeal for holiness and the priesthood, Matthew began to be more open to fact that the Lord

was speaking to his own heart through others such as his grandmother and Fr. Rob. In his senior year, not being able to go one day without thinking about the priesthood and after having a life changing experience in prayer at one of the Diocesan Holy Hours for Vocations, Matthew decided to apply to the seminary and has been in formation since then. Matthew’s seminary formation takes place in Washington D.C. at Theological College, the National Seminary of the Catholic University of America. Having completed his Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology (S.T.B.), Matthew is now pursuing a Licentiate in Sacred Theology (S.T.L.). Matthew loves to use social media as an agent to the New Evangelization. He looks to Bishop Robert Barron, founder of Word on Fire Catholic Ministries, as an inspiration and guide in the work of evangelization in the twenty-first century. Matthew hopes to use what he has learned from Bishop Barron as a tool to cultivate Dramatic Missionary Growth in the Diocese of Rockville Centre as a priest one day.

Welcome, Matthew and Blessings!

First Reading: Moses addresses the people and asks them to reflect about the greatness of their experience with God. His rhetorical questions about the people hearing the voice of God in fire and God rescuing the people from slavery in Egypt leads Moses to declare there is no other God but the Lord. The Christian God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) is the same God who chose the people of Israel as his own. May we keep His commandments today and always so that we may know his promise of prosperity.

Responsorial Psalm 33: Psalm 33 reminds us that it was through the Lord’s word that creation took place. The Lord’s command brought into being all life. Christians believe that the Trinity--Father, Son and Holy Spirit--was present at creation. God, the Trinity, is the God we fear, the one whose kindness we pray in the psalm to be upon us for He has chosen us as His own.

Second Reading: Paul gives testimony to our familial relationship with God. Through the working of the Holy Spirit, we are children of God--God’s sons and daughters. Paul teaches us that, because we are God’s children, we are heirs and will inherit everlasting life with Christ. We suffer earthly trials with Christ, but in the end we will share in His glory.

Gospel: Even the eleven remaining disciples who went to the mountain with Jesus and worshipped, doubted. Matthew does not explain why they doubted, but just that they did. Perhaps they were concerned about what was to come. Perhaps they were con- cerned about Jesus leaving them. When Jesus came near and spoke to them, He gave them what is knows as the “Great Commission.“ Power in heaven and earth was given to Jesus and now He sends His disciples forth to form more disciples. They are to baptize the disciples-to-be in the “name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” the Trinitarian formula the Church has used for centuries when the baptismal water is poured. Jesus concludes with words of reassurance to His disciples. He will be with them as they go forth in mission and will remain with them forever, until the end of time.
