He has you in mind. Do we think about that much? The God of the universe has us in mind,
individually as persons and together as one human family. We hear this truth in today's Gospel
story of Thomas. His doubt is likely familiar to us by now. "Unless I see the mark of the nails in
his hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into his side, I will not
believe."
Jesus is God. He could have risen any way he wanted. He could have risen perfectly healed,
as a further sign of his power over death and suffering. But when Thomas encounters him, we
see what Jesus chose. "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it
into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe." In resurrecting his body, Jesus already
has Thomas in mind. Jesus retains his wounds for Thomas, for the disciples, and for all who
would doubt the sacrificial power of love. This intentional love of Jesus is echoed by John and
his disciples, who authored this Gospel. "Jesus did many other signs...these are written that you
may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ...and that through this belief you may have life in
his name."
From its earliest beginnings, the Church knew the power of sign and story. When they wrote
the Gospels, they had us in mind. We are all Thomas from time to time. We need to see the
mercy of God lived and real in our lives. This can happen throughout the circumstances of
our daily comings and goings. It can also happen through meditating on the Scripture, through
placing ourselves in the stories and listening to God's voice speaking. We don't get to see what
the disciples got to see, but we know, through them, that God always has us in mind. As he
reminds the disciples, "Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."
PRAYING THE DIVINE MERCY CHAPLET
Begin with the Our Father, Hail Mary, and the Apostles
Creed. Using regular rosary beads, work your way around
the five decades with the prayers below.
On the standalone beads, pray: "Eternal Father, I offer you
the body, blood, soul, and divinity of your dearly beloved
Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and
those of the whole world."
On the decade beads, pray: "For the sake of his sorrowful
Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world."
At the end, pray the following three times: "Holy God,
Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on
us and on the whole world."
It is typical to conclude the Divine Mercy Chaplet with
the words: "Jesus, I trust in you."

there is no greater prayer than the celebration of
Eucharist. Each Mass Intention is only $15.00. If
you are interested in having a Mass celebrated in
memory of a deceased loved one, or in honor of
someone who is living, please call Emily at the
Rectory and she will be more than happy to assist
you.
Did you see the big candle in Church last Sunday? It is called the PASCHAL CANDLE. You will see it lit from Easter Sunday through Pentecost Sunday, then it will be moved to the baptistery, where it will light the Baptismal Candles. It will not be on the main altar again unless there is a Funeral until next Easter. Go take
a look at the candle, you will see it is decorated in a special way. It has a cross cut into the wax with pieces of incense inserted into it. There are special red wax "nails" at the ends of the crossbars and in the middle of the cross, which some say represent the blood Christ shed on the cross. The candle itself reminds us that, Jesus is the light of the world and he removes the darkness in our hearts and minds. You will also see the year's date 2019 and the Greek letters, the Alpha & Omega, it means God is the beginning and the end.
The Second Sunday of Easter has become known as
the Feast of the Divine Mercy, or more commonly,
Divine Mercy Sunday. This devotion to the divine
mercy of Jesus has been celebrated for many years in
many different parts of the world since the 1930s, yet
it wasn’t until Saint John Paul II canonized Saint
Faustina Kowalska on April 30, 2000, that the
Sunday after Easter became known as “Divine
Mercy Sunday” in the General Roman Calendar.
Saint Faustina was an uneducated Polish nun
who kept a diary of about 600 pages telling the story
of her revelations regarding the mercy of God.
Devotion to the Divine Mercy of Jesus challenges us
to arrive at a greater understanding that the love
of God is both unconditional and never-ending, and
is available to ALL people - and it challenges us
even further to reciprocate that love and mercy to
everyone whom we encounter throughout our life’s
journey. Here at Saint Saviour parish, there will
be veneration of the divine Mercy image and the
recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet beginning at
3:00 p.m. this Sunday, April 28, 2019. ALL the
members of our parish family are invited to attend
and share in God’s Divine Mercy.

CHILDREN’S STATIONS OF THE CROSS Words cannot express how grateful we are for the boys & girls of our Academy & Faith Formation Program who participated. It was a long six weeks but many people commented on how reverent & respectful the boys & girls were in their portrayal of the Stations of the Cross. We are very grateful to Jayden Kerr, Alexander & Ava Leon, Eladio Martin, Gavin O'Donnell, Annabelle & Xavier O'Neill, Joey Schwartz, Duke Taverney, Alyssa & Mykala Vasquez, Margie Dotter, Junie & Cliona Yarish, Evenlyn Suzaka. Our musicians Alex Ashman, Choir Director and Abbie Yarish our violinist, their music added so much more to our re-enactment. Natalie Lopes for shepherding the Academy lower grades, Emily & Cassie for assisting with opening the Church and last but not least to Gloria Jankowski, my right arm. Gloria's assistance, encouragement, creativity, are only a few words to express how essential she is to working on the Stations. Thank you to all who took time out of their Good Friday to join us. - GeriAnne O’Beirne
