from 6:30- 8:00 pm. Meet the teachers and see the classrooms. If you are trying to decide on a preschool, please join us or email kdmerkel@ptd.net for more information. Full day and half day classes are available for 3, and 4 year olds along with a transitional kindergarten program. Before and After school care are available. Cost for the 3 day/week (Tues, Wed, Thurs) program from 9- 11:30 am is $36/week. The full day program is $21/day. Extended care is $4/hour. PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN is an education program for adults who work with children, about the harms of sexual abuse & what they can do to prevent it. All catechists, youth ministers, and parish workers who deal with children are required to complete this program. It will be offered in St Peter the Fisherman Church on Mon., Aug. 20th from 5:30pm-8:30pm. There is no charge for this program. LOCAL ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVERS SUPPORT GROUP: Presented by the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, the group meets the second Monday of each month (6:00 p.m.) at Christ Lutheran Church, 188 Church Road, Penn Forest Township, Jim Thorpe. Trained facilitators help caregivers, family and friends of persons with Alzheimer’s/dementia to: develop a support system; exchange information on caregiving challenges and possible solutions; discuss issues and ways of coping; share feelings, needs and concerns; and learn about community resources. Position opening will be immediate. No phone calls please. WEEKLY MIRACLE~This week marks the beginning of a kind of "liturgical detour." We have been listening to Saint Mark's Gospel during this liturgical year (Year B). Today we begin to hear a long section from John's Gospel, starting with the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes. This miracle story is a prelude to the Lord's statements that we will begin hearing in a few weeks, in which Jesus refers to himself as the "bread of life." Each week we witness a miracle at Mass. We do not see a multiplication of loaves before us. What our eyes of faith allow us to see is the miracle of the transformation of common elements--bread and wine--into the Lord's Body and Blood. Once we have received the Lord, the multiplication begins, for in the Eucharist we are strengthened to multiply our efforts to feed the poor, shelter the homeless, and bring comfort to the despairing. © J.
