"Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me." In this famous passage about Christian discipleship, we usually tend to focus on Jesus' call to take up our cross. This can feel frightening or unattractive to us. It can seem as though the choice to be Christian is a choice for pain and suffering. But we must not forget the last part of this verse: Jesus tells us to follow him. He is walking

this journey ahead of us. He is the one who first takes up the cross. We are simply called to follow in his footsteps. Think of how much easier it is to follow a path that someone else has already trod. Think about hiking, for example, and consider what's involved in "blazing your own trail." You have to advance face-first into the brambles and bushes; you have to navigate the right direction to your destination; you have to scale the hills and cross the waters without the aid of stair or bridge. On the other hand, when we hike on a path that someone else has created, we are spared all of these extra trials. Yes, the journey may still be intense, but we make it with great comfort and confidence, knowing that we are going in the right direction and that we have every advantage along the way thanks to someone else's efforts. This is what it is to follow the path of Christ. Every human person will have their "crosses," whether they are Christian or not. Physical pain, disappointment, rejection, grief, and the like are not unique to the followers of Jesus. What's unique is that our Lord and Savior has walked this path before us. Through his passion and cross, Jesus has taken all of this into his own hands, blazing a trail that safely leads each of us to the joy of resurrection. LPI, Inc.

LPI, Inc.

Often people attend Mass at All Souls for several years, but never register. Registering here is a declaration of your desire to be part of a Catholic community and to make a commitment to the life of All Souls Church. Being a

registered parishioner makes the process much easier when it is time for infant baptism, school or religious education registration, weddings, when asked to be a baptismal or confirmation sponsor, and even funerals. A registered parishioner receives all parish mailings, too. Church law advises that territories or boundaries no longer limit parish registration. All Souls accepts anyone who wants to share in the life of the parish regardless of where they live. In order to register, you need to complete a which registration card. These may be found narthex of the church or chapel, the parish office during the week or online at our parish website: www.allsoulssanford.org. Why not sign up today? August 14 marked the 125th anniversary of the death of Fr. Michael McGivney, founder of the Knights of Columbus and candidate for sainthood. The milestone was commemorated by the Order's Supreme Chaplain, Archbishop William Lori, who celebrated Noon Mass at St. Mary's Church where Fr.

McGivney founded the Knights in 1882. Meetings 1st (Social) and 3rd (Business) Tuesdays 7pm, 2504 S Oak Ave,

All parishioners are invited to attend our next Parish Town Hall Meeting, 7:00-8:30pm on Thursday, September 24th at the Historic Chapel. The purpose of these meetings are to give our parish families information on the current plans for improving and revitalizing our parish ministries and maintaining a warm and welcoming parish community. As promised, we formed three committees to address

the concerns and issues discussed at our prior meetings, such as (1) immediate and long-term needs of our facilities, (2) “community building” through the church, and (3) elimination of debt. Those committees will report their findings to the parish at the upcoming meeting. At the conclusion of the committee reports, we will open the meeting for questions and answers. Your input is both desired and needed...so PLEASE attend.

Parishioners Annette and Frances Lommerse pose as re-enactors in front of an oil painting where Fr. Medina is depicted as Fr. Lopez. The painting was a special commission for the 450th Anniversary.

I would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to all of you serving as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at All Souls. We are in need of individuals (presently serving in our parish as EMHC’s) to serve in our Ministry to the Sick (MTS). Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick take communion to those who cannot attend Mass because of illness, injury or age issues. These ministers keep parishioners connected to our parish and bring them the comfort and strength of the Eucharist during difficult times in their lives. We minister to people in their homes, in nursing homes, assisted living facilities , hospitals, and retirement communities within our parish. Time commitment for this ministry varies by minister. Some choose to commit to bringing communion to a homebound parishioner weekly for many years. Ministers choose the commitments that fit their work schedule and family needs. We firmly believe that the Holy Spirit guides our Minister to the homebound parishioner who needs them the most. If you would be willing to offer your time and prayerful support to those that are unable to attend Mass, your involvement as a MTS member would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Adam Heyboer at 407.697.4402 for more information. God bless you, Father Gilbert Medina.

There will be a speaker at all of our Masses next weekend, Sept. 19 & 20 and a diocesan collection in all of the parishes of the Diocese of Orlando for our Sister Diocese in the Dominican Republic. Please use the envelope in your church envelope packet. This collection will be taken up with our regular offertory collection. Your donations are truly appreciated.
