PC-based Character GeneratorWith almost all the features and functions of the world-classChyron Codi, the PC-Codi is the complete solution for real-time,broadcast quality video character generation and graphics displayon a PC. An easy to install ISA-board, PC-Codi offers an effectivepixel resolution of 10ns (nanoseconds), a broadcast-quality encoderthat generates composite and S-Video signals and a wide band-width linear keyer that allows graphics and text to be merged withor keyed over video at a variety of transparency levels. Combinewith Chyron’s PC-Scribe titling software (next page) and you have a system that rivals those costing five times as much.

High Resolution Employs advanced anti-aliasing to provide

broadcast quality text with an effective res-olution of 10 nanoseconds.Anti-aliasing isa technique for smoothing out the steps invertical or diagonal elements of characters. The result is very sharp straight andcurved lines in fonts and logos at any scanline height.

Realtime Operation Operates in realtime, without having to

render fonts. With a high performancegraphics processor operating independent-ly of the host computer, PC-Codi gener-ates text as soon as it receives data.

Font Library Use any Windows-based typeface includ-

ing TrueType and Postscript. Use fontsfrom the Bitstream Typeface Library withover 1500 different styles including foreignlanguage fonts. You can also obtain desiredsizes of fonts from CODI Master Fonts byusing the optional PC Font Create soft-ware.

Logos Logos from Chyron’s Logo Compose

Service or created on the ChyroniNFiNiT! family of products can be con-verted for use on the pc-Codi. Logos canbe made in any size from 10 to 400 scanlines and can be single or multicolored.

Chyron can compose logos from your art-work in multiple sizes, with or withoutedges, in single and multiple colors.

PCX Files 256 color graphic files can be downloaded

for display. The amount of color used inthe image as well as any transparent colorvalue can be specified. A PCX image canbe placed in a character location forinstant recall.

Expansion Capabilities Although PowerScripts operate as a stand

alone machines, you can expand theircapabilities by connecting them to acomputer or network, or by utilizingtheir two built-in PCMCIA slots.

Two PCMCIA (accepts Type I, II and IIIcards) slots allow you to import andexport fonts, graphics and projects.

Ethernet (file transfer protocol usingTCP/IP) cards and an RS-232 serial portallows simple connection to desktopcomputers.

PowerScript is a powerful, high-resolutionstand-alone character generator designed forbroadcast and professional applications.PowerScript operates on its own; but withPowerScript Communicator software, itscapabilities expand to take advantage of PCsand networks — including worldwideInternet connections! It uses standard proto-cols, making it easy to connect and operateusing standard networking hardware andsoftware.

Transfer Communicator allows you to easily

transfer project files, fonts, and graphicsbetween PowerScript and a PC. It showsthe files on each PowerScript unit andgives full control from the computer.

With this facility, you can easily archivePowerScript projects, move thembetween locations, and use all the capa-bilities of the PC and network, such asaccess to hard drives and floppy disks.

This is also the easiest way to movefonts and graphics to PowerScript. SincePowerScript uses PostScript technology,it can use widely available PostScriptfonts and image EPS graphics. Forexample, you could combine EPSgraphics prepared by standard applica-tions such as Photoshop or Corel Drawon Mac, Windows and Unix platforms.

View Users can grab screen shots of

PowerScript pages with a video still-cap-ture device and attach them to projectfiles, making it easy to browse throughprojects. This facility can also be used tocapture font samples, making it easy tosee what a font looks like before it’sused.

Schedule Schedule up to 99 different events on

up to ten different PowerScripts, to playprojects at specified dates and times.

Compose With PowerScript Communicator, users

can copy text from standard PC applica-tions to a PowerScript text object on anyof the connected units. It supportsPowerScript’s 24 user-definable styles, allowing users to set color, font, rota-tion, and other parameters. For instance, copy text from an e-mail message orword processing document and applypre-defined styles. In seconds, you’reready to go on-air!

Play With PowerScript Communicator, users

can play pages on a remotely locatedPowerScript unit — whether the unit isacross the building, or across the coun-try! For example, if a storm is approach-ing, a remotely located PowerScript canbe directed to play a storm warning page.

Easy Setup PowerScript Communicator supports

standard interface protocols. Use a sim-ple, inexpensive serial RS-232 connec-tion to control a single unit. Or add anEthernet card to PowerScript and con-nect via local-or wide-area networks, including the Internet, using TCP/IP. Because Communicator andPowerScript use standard Internet pro-tocols, it’s easy to control PowerScriptfrom any computer with internet access.Communicator runs on Windows 3.1and 95 systems.

It has over 500 digital video effects andtransitions including dissolves, trailing effects and multiple picture-in-picture. There are shape wipes, soft wipe edges and easy to use'banks' of effects with user-defined favorites. All shape effects can beenhanced with soft edges, colored borders and drop shadows for 3-D like impact. Frame synchronizer and dual-fieldinfinite-window time base corrector (TBC) allow clean transitions, including the ability to hold an image frozenthrough a transition. Unique preview screen shows miniature copies of all four inputs in your choice of formats andsizes, so you can work with just one or two monitors. Digital effects include freeze, black and white, negative, mosaic, paint and flip. Has a chroma keyer and a color corrector that remembers settings for each channel. Built-in audiomixer includes a special background music feature that lets you manipulate audio tracks independent of video.

MXPRODV 10-Bit Digital Video Mixer with DV Input/OutputTaking the state-of-the-art MXPro mixer and adding proprietary FireWire (IEEE 1394) technology, Videonics has cre-ated the MXProDV — a versatile, easy to use switcher/special effects generator for both analog and DV video signals. Finally there is a real-time production tool that preserves your DV signal from start to finish.

7-Day Customer Satisfaction Guarantee

All DV. All the Time. In Real Time. What happens to your DV signal as you go through the editing process?Well, most non-linear systems convert your DV signal to another format(M-JPEG) for editing, and then convert it back to DV when they're done. The MXProDV maintains the integrity of the digital signal from your DVcamcorder or source deck to your record device. And forget about render-ing time. MXProDV produces digital effects in real time, making it theideal tool for both post-production and live applications. For speed, quali-ty and versatility the MXProDV is unmatched! And now you can mix bothhigh-quality analog and DV sources together .

Of course the MXProDV incorporates all the features of the MXPro. Over500 eye-catching transitions including curved and jagged edges, trailingeffects, and "natural" shape effects like circles, stars, and hearts. Effectenhancements like soft edges, color borders and drop shadows. Real RGBcolor correction to compensate for minor lighting imperfections or slightcolor differences between sources. Built-in chroma and luminance keying. There has never been a more complete DV and analog production solution.

The MXProDV also produces perfectly synchronized DV audio with CDquality. Enhanced audio mixing capability provides on-screen slide controlsfor volume along with level meters so you ensure that your audio levels areproperly set. MXProDV supports 32kHz 4-channel and 48kHz 2-channeldigital audio with a multitude of mixing options.

Highest Quality Video 10-bit (4:2:2) video processing for S-Video applications,

and 8-bit 4:2:2 for composite ensures the highest qualityvideo. S/N ratio is 60 dB and bandwidth is 5.5 MHz.

Four Input Switcher Four input channels make them useful in live produc-

tion settings where up to four cameras or other sourcesmight be in use. MXPro and MXProDV synchronize theinputs, so disruptions do not occur when switchingbetween sources.

Each channel has a composite video input, an S-Videoinput, and a set of stereo audio inputs. The MXProDVadds two DV inputs. Use all DV, all S-Video, all com-posite, or any combination.

Mix any two input sources together using a variety oftransitions — wipes, dissolves, flips, etc. With the framesynchronizer you can mix independent video signals.

Time Base Correction Full-frame time base correction (TBC) automatically

corrects the outputs time base (RS-170A standard)so theoutput signal is stable even when the input isn’t.

Picture-in-Pictures (PIPs) PIP allows multiple pictures to share

the screen in various configurations. Forexample, one source might take theentire background while another imageappears inside a separate, smaller win-dow, both sharing the screen at the sametime. You can use up to 16 images in aPIP configuration.

Compose The mixers offer a video painting systemthat lets you combine video stills, colorshapes, and moving video on one screen. You can create a screen that contains avideo still of a football coach (with a sur-rounding red border), combined with amoving video of the players on the field.

Chroma Key/Color Corrector With either of the mixer’s Chroma Keyer

you can key on any color. In additionthey have color correction capability tocompensate for minor lighting imperfec-tions or slight color differences betweensources. While other similarly-pricedmixers only offer hue and intensity con-trol, they provide real manual color cor-rection. Apply true RGB color correctionto any or all input sources.

Flexible Preview If you are using only two sources, you

can select a screen that provides two largepreview screens with fewer icons. If youdon’t require the effect icons, you candisplay all four sources full screen, witheach source occupying 1/4 of the screen.

Audio Mixer Built-in audio mixer lets you can change

the sound along with the video, or play aconstant sound while the video plays.Audio can come from a video source orfrom external audio devices.

Joystick The joystick gives you fine control over

color adjustments and positioning of PIP,compose, and the chroma key cursor.

Other Features Color bar and black burst generators.

GPI interface allows external controllersto trigger transitions.

Videonics digital mixers have aunique, and powerful preview output. This preview output allows you toview up to four sources on one moni-tor. This saves you both money, andspace, by avoiding the need for sepa-rate monitors for each source.

You can also customize the view ofyour preview screen depending onwhich Videonics mixer you own.

All Videonics mixers will display 4inputs, in addition to 30 transitionoptions on one screen. They can alsotoggle full screen display of eitheryour "current" source, or your "go to" source.

With the MXPro and the MXProDV, preview flexibility is even greater. You can chose from3 options depending on your application or need. Have all 4 inputs displayed as smallerthumbnail screens; choose 2 larger thumbnail screens showing you "current" and "next,"or you can fill the screen with a "quad" view of all 4 inputs. With MXPro and theMXProDV you can also "freeze" frames from two different sources and toggle between fullscreen views of both. Preview outputs on all mixers is composite (RCA) jacks.

To help manage the 500+ transitions, they are separated into five logical colorcoded categories or effects "banks" User,Basic, Edges, Trailing, and Shapes.

Basic Transitions — These include all tran-sitions from the Videonics MX-1 with theiroriginal numbers (over 240 effects).Edge Transitions — These transitions movea curved or jagged(sawtoothed) edge acrossthe screen when transitioning to a differentpicture source. Trailing Transitions — The transitions inthis category leave a trail of images on thescreen as a change occurs. The trailingimages go away once the transition finishes. Organic Shape Transitions — These tran-sitions occur as a wipe in the shape of a geo-metric object, such as a heart, five-pointedstar, circle, binocular, diamond, etc.

Since it’s unlikely you’ll use all of theavailable transitions — but will have alimited set you use most of the time, theMXPro makes it easy for you to accessyour favorite transitions by creating yourown personal menu — the User menu.Select up to 30 of your favorite effectsand access them instantly by pressing the"User" button.

Each of the effects "banks" can be easilyaccessed with the press of one button.Once you get to know the mixer’s layout, you'll effortlessly select any effect, usingthe cursor keys or the numeric keypad.

Manual transitions using T-bar or automatictransitions (10 speeds) using auto-take.MXPro can even memorize a sequence ofactions and repeat them for you, on cue.

Outputs Multiple video/audio outputs include two S-Video program outputs, two composite pro-

gram outputs, one composite preview output, one set of stereo audio outputs, and a head-phone output for monitoring. MXProDV adds a single DV(IEEE 1394) output.

Effects and Transitions Over 500 video effects, including fades, wipes, slides, dissolves, zooms, and trailing effects.

Plus picture-in-picture, multiple picture-in-picture, picture flip, luminance and chroma key, superimpose, movable mosaic, strobe, picture freeze (frame and field), strobe, posterization(paint), solarization, negative, color inverse, zoom, and filter. Effects can be enhanced withsoft edges, colored borders and drop shadows.

Digital/Analog ComponentSwitcher/DMEDesigned for the broadcast and edit suites ofthe new millennium, the powerful DFS-700 isan expandable 8-input switcher/effects unitequipped with analog component and compo-nent digital inputs, making it a perfect matchfor DVCAM, Betacam SX or Digital Betacamsystems, as well as existing analog equipment. Nomatter which format you choose, the DFS-700 willcomplement it perfectly. Ideal for newsrooms, post-production, field editing, small studios and outsidebroadcasting systems.

Inputs and Outputs The DFS-700 accommodates a wide range of signal input/output

requirements. It comes standard with eight inputs - four SDI andfour analog component. With the optional BKDF-701 or BKDF-702 boards, you can add eight or four inputs, making the totalnumber of inputs 16 or 12 respectively; any eight of which can befreely assigned to the control panel.

The BKDF-701 adds four SDI and four analog component inputs, theBKDF-702 adds four composite or Y/C inputs. The DFS-700 has twoSDI, two analog component, two composite and two Y/C outputs.

3-Dimensional Mapping Optional 3D Mapping Board delivers 3D effects in a simple, ready-

to-use format. Without wasting significant time on programming, you have easy access to 3D effects, such as 3D cubes, 3D explosion,3D vase and 3D frames.

Live Operation Cross-point buttons offer broadcast-grade “feel” for extra durability

in the most extreme applications. For live operation, the DFS-700also offers Preview and Tally outputs.

2-Channel Effects Installing an optional second channel video board, the BKDF-711,

adds a professional touch with two-channel special effects, such aspush-in, push-out, Duality effect (two-channel picture in picture),combined operations (two-channel intersect) and brick-like effect.

Switcher Function Switcher functions include chroma keyer, YUV color correction, down

stream keyer, fade-to-black and frame memory. The DFS-700 can beused with the BVE-2000 and PVE-500 editors via the serial interface.

BVE-2000 On-Line Video EditorIncredibly powerful and extremely versatile, the BVE-2000 turns your A/B roll editing studio into

an “on-line” facility. It offers multiple VCR control, tape motion control for DATs, program-ming and control for Sony and Grass Valley switchers, and multiple GPI ports. The abilityto store over 900 events and build an “Edit Decision List” (EDL) that can be stored on afloppy disk via a built in 3.5 inch drive makes the BVE-2000 the choice for even the longestproduction. The BVE-2000 has the ability to input EDL’s from a variety of non-linear sys-tems or CMX based edit control devices. Because of the amount of footage that is needed

for some video production, non linear edit systems would not be a good choice because theywould have great difficulty storing all the workable material on hard drives. With the BVE-2000 with

its tape based system, you can work with unlimited footage and store location information such as tape num-ber, media type, shot description and any other notation that is needed directly within its EDL. For those long pro-

jects and that upgrade from basic A/B roll editing the BVE-2000 is the choice for many post production facilities.

Event Controllers/Playback and Recording SwitchersWith automated videotape playback/recording and audio/videoswitching, the TS-16, PRO-16/8 and Mini-T-Pro 8 areall-in-one solutions for automatic video equipmentcontrol. They feature a powerful 1000-event user-programmable controller (500 on the Mini-T-Pro),machine control for up to 16 VCRs, built-in 16 x 4(TS-16 and PRO-16), 8 x 3 (PRO-8) and 8 x 1(Mini-T-Pro) video and stereo audio Routing Switcher, and all, except the Mini-T-Pro, offer a printer output connection. Ideal for automatic recording and program playback systems, they each save valuable rack space and cabling problems, while costing less than comparable video/audio Switchers.

Routing Switcher The controller’s built-in video and audio Switchers features perfor-

mance and functionality of Switchers costing thousands of dollarsmore. Both the video and audio switching circuits use the latesttechnology in electronic switching components, to preserve pictureand sound quality.

All source to all destinations routing may be controlled manually, remotely, or through preprogramming events for maximum flexibility.

BNC connectors are used for all video inputs/outputs; RCA con-nectors are used for stereo audio input/outputs.

All switch functions are performed during the vertical intervalperiod to ensure the best possible “on-air look”.

They have a video detection feature that allows each of the outputsto be continuously monitored for a valid video signal. If video islost, they automatically route a user-defined alternate input (CGor satellite feed, for example) to the affected video output.

VCR Control They are each capable of controlling up to 16 independent VCRs

(with four functions each: Play, Record, Rewind, Stop) via theirPRO-BUS scheme. Powerful, yet simple, PRO-BUS is a VCRinterface system that interconnects with modular telephone cables.

PRO-BUS and VCR interfaces allow the controllers to communi-cate with any VCR (each machine requires an interface). ThePRO-BUS, interconnected with standard RJ-11 telephone wireconnectors, initiates from a controller and then loops between each VCR interface, providing power and VCR function controlsignals. Individual interface addressing allows for individual orgroup operation. PRO-BUS VCR interfaces are available for mostindustrial and broadcast VCRs.

Event Controller They let you manage even the most difficult of schedules.

Referenced to their internal time of day, day of week time clock,up to 1000 battery protected events are at your command forautomatic control of tape machine and Switcher functions. Eventsare programmable for time, a single day, or any combination ofdays, with performance of both Switcher and tape machine func-tions.

Each event can be programmed for auto deletion once performed, freeing up memory space used by “only once” events. All eventshave one second resolution, and multiple events can be pro-grammed to occur at any given time. The controllers scan theentire event database every second, performing the functions ofany event that matches the current time and day.

Auto-take feature enhances event conservation, allowing a singleevent to start program playback. Switch the Switcher a predeter-mined number of seconds later.

Printer Output (N/A on the Mini-T-PRO) Event Listing/Logger (used in conjunction with a standard parallel

printer) provides the controllers with two functions: Print andLogger.

—The LOGGER prints information as the events occur, includingthe actual day the event happened, time of the event, deck infor-mation and Switcher information.

— The PRINT function will print a listing of all programmed eventsin event order, including event number, day(s), time, VCR func-tion and Switcher information. Loss of video and power outagesare also reported. A 10´ cable is included with each controller fordirect connection to a printer.

Event Manager Software Bundled with every controller is DOS and

WinEM-LT Event Manager software. Byallowing you to save multiple events databasesthe software provide you with a flexible envi-ronment for managing event schedules. Youcan enter your event database from the key-board, save and load events to and from adisk, and send and receive programmed eventsto or from your event controller. The EventManager software also supports communica-tion via a direct connection or over a modem, allowing you to interface with your EventController from almost anywhere.

Additional Features All except the Mini-T-PRO are rackmount-

able. The TS-16/PR0-16 are two RU high(3.5˝), the PRO-8 is one RU unit high(1.75˝).

TS-16/PRO-16/PRO-8/MINI-T-PRO

Going far beyond the capabilities of WinEM-LT, the optional full-version WinEM EventManager Software adds the power and convenience of a Resource Library and Play List editor. The Resource Library is a descriptive database of video and audio resources such as videotapesor laser discs. The Play List editor allows you to create a list which contains resources andplayback times. Once a Play List is defined, the built-in event generator automatically com-piles an Event Table from the Play List, placing the new Event Table in memory. WinEMautomatically inserts events to handle tasks such as rewinding the tape at the end of a programplayback and switching to the default video source. Powerful editing features (add, delete, sortand copy) allow effortless manipulation of all WinEM files (Resource Library, Play List andEvent Table). All files may be printed using various report formats.

PROGRAMMABLE EVENT CONTROLLERS

Powerful, Unattended Automatic ControlAn event controller has often been described as a simple, yet power-ful, timer. Much more than that, Leightronix Event Controllersachieve powerful unattended automatic control, while still retainingthe “simplicity” of the most basic timers. For all Leightronix EventControllers, the most basic programmable control element is the“event”. An event can be thought of as a container which holds infor-mation about what is supposed to happen and when.

The “what” of a Leightronix event typically includes actions such ascontrolling a VCR, video/audio Routing Switcher, a laser disc player orother GPI devices. The “when” of a Leightronix event includes the timeand day (or days) that the “what” (action) is to take place. The advan-tage of the Leightronix structure is that it allows multiple actions to beplaced inside one event container, multiplying the power of each eventprogrammed — to occur on any single day or combination of daysusing only one event container. Unique to Leightronix, a switch delaytime is built into each event, allowing the user to select a Switcher delaytime from 0–99 seconds. This allows a device like a VCR to start priorto being put “on the air”. Leightronix’s implementation of this delayscheme provides a clean source transition without using up extra events, thus maximizing event efficiency while minimizing playback errors.

Stand-Alone System DesignBright, easy-to-read LCDs are featured on all controllers. Controlactions are accessed directly from their front panel (each are pro-grammed using an easy-to-understand “menu tree”). A 10-digitnumeric keypad and 4-way arrow keypad provide access to the PRO-8/16 and TCD-1000 menus. The Mini-T-PRO features a 4-wayarrow keypad for data entry, the TS-16 an interactive touch-screeninterface for the ultimate in simplicity.

Leightronix controllers are designed as stand-alone systems, free from theever changing PC environment and frequent upgrades. The internal micro-processor of each controller is designed to be responsible for event scan-ning, event execution and system overhead functions, thus providing self-reliant event controller operation. However, with hundreds of events tomanage, it is preferable to use a PC to manage event information. For thisreason, all controllers are equipped with RS-232 ports and include bothDOS and Windows versions of Event Manager software. The programsoffer powerful tools for editing, printing, storage, and retrieval of eventinformation from your computer. Event schedules are uploaded and down-loaded locally, or transferred from a remote location via modem. OptionalWinEM provides a flexible, graphical environment that includes a resourcelibrary, a user-defined Play List and a computer-generated Event Table.

Uncomplicated Operation and Reliable Performance

Whenever more than one source of video and audio is employed in aplayback system, a video/audio Routing Switcher is required to routethe various sources to the various destinations. The router performsthe function of electronically sending source signals (in this case videoand audio signals) to specific destinations (outputs). The limiting fac-tor in a playback system is often the video/audio routing capabilities, the size of the router. Interestingly, the bulk of the cost associated witha playback system is not the controller, but the Routing Switcher. Asthe system increases, so does the cost of the Routing Switcher.

Two primary things must be considered, to determine the best RoutingSwitcher size for your application: the number of possible video/audiosources you will have and the number of destinations for those sources. For sources, consider all video devices — VCRs, laser disc players, char-acter generators, digital players, studio feeds and satellite feeds. Onceyour input requirements have been determined, you will need to deter-mine the number of unique destinations (outputs) required for yoursources. For example, if your playback system has 13 sources (inputs) and3 destinations (outputs), you would want to consider a 16 x 4Controller/Routing Switcher, such as the PRO-16 or TS-16.

An event controller simplifies video broadcast operation by automat-ing everything from video and audio switching to VCR control.Leightronix Event Controllers make video broadcasting a breezebecause of its uncomplicated operation and reliable performance, allat an affordable cost. Versatile and adaptable, you will find Leightronixproducts everywhere professional automated control is required.Leightronix Event Controllers simplify broadcasting for private in-house networks providing patient education, staff training, guest lectures, corporate employee training, campus movie channels, and hotel resortinformation, to name a few.

C-VOICEWhen used with a TCD-1000, C-VOICE provides a means forimmediate control over system’s VCR and switching resources asan enhancement to the Event Controller’s scheduled capabilities. C-VOICE can also be used as a stand-alone controller to provideimmediate control over as many as 64 VCRs and multiple video andaudio switching devices, via the LGX-BUS. Equipped with four GPIoutputs, as well as four GPI inputs for remote equipment monitoring.

PRO-VOICEDesigned for the TS-16 and PRO-16/8 Event Controllers, PRO-VOICEprovides a means of quick and easy remote system control. Connectedvia the PRO-BUS, PRO-VOICE supports control for up to16 VCRsand has the capacity to control the Event Controller’s internal router.Equipped with four GPI outputs, as well as four GPI inputs for remoteequipment monitoring.

Telephone Interfaces for Event ControllersC-VOICE and PRO-VOICE provide you with the power to controlyour entire video system – from a standard touch-tone telephone sys-tem – anywhere. Utilizing digitized human speech, C-VOICE andPRO-VOICE “talk” to you, prompting you as you go. Familiarizingyourself with the necessary keystrokes will enable you to input infor-mation without having to wait for verbal prompts - a savings onyour phone bill. With C-VOICE and PRO-VOICE, 24-hour-a-day,seven-day-a-week machine control and switching is as close as thenearest phone.

LGX-BUS/PRO-BUS VCR INTERFACESOne of the most critical aspects of any automated playback and recording system is reliable control over a broad rangeand quantity of devices — the LGX and PRO-BUS systems satisfy both requirements. Based on an addressable, multi-point control architecture, it relieves the installer from having to run an individual control cable from each controlleddevice to the controller. This saves installation time and material expense. The PRO-BUS utilizes standard four-conductor “telephone” cable, terminated with six-position (modular type) connectors. The LGX-BUS sig-nal is carried on a coaxial cable (typically RG-59) which is terminated with BNC connectors. Every device interface is preprogrammed at thefactory for use with a specific machine. Since the control bus is generic, a new machine interface can be added to an existing Leightronix con-trol system without changing controller configurations. And the order in which the interfaces are connected is not important, since every con-trol message is decoded by each interface individually.

The LGX-BUS and PRO-BUS interface part numbers are encoded with information as to the bus type, the target manufacturer and targetinterface type. For example, part #PRJVIR indicates that the interface is for the PRO-BUS (PR) and a JVC VCR (JV) which uses infrared (IR)control.

LGX-BUS In contrast to the PRO-BUS which carries both interface power andcontrol signals, the LGX-BUS carries only the control signals. Thisallows the LGX-BUS to extend to 1000 feet. Besides long cable lengths, the LGX-BUS is able to support as many as 64 VCR interfaces andmultiple Routing Switchers at one time. Standard LGX-BUS VCRinterface supports four-function VCR control, and specialized 8-functioninterfaces are available for select VCRs. LGX-BUS is only used withthe TCD-1000 controller.

PRO-BUSThe PRO-BUS provides a low cost, compact interface that is easy toinstall. Supporting up to 16 VCRs and 8 laser disc players, the PRO-BUS carries both control and power to VCR interfaces, making instal-lation a snap without having to worry about extra AC power outlets.Used with all Leightronix Event Controllers, including the TCD-1000,each PRO-BUS VCR interface provides VCR control of four functions(Play, Rewind, Record and Stop). PRO-BUS also supports select laserdisc players with control commands.

The ISO-100 and ISO-300 Humzingers are the solution for cost-effective removal of annoying 60 cycle hum from video signals. Afteryears of research, TecNec eliminates this problem once and for all. TheHumzingers use high speed solid state multi-stage differential ampli-fiers coupled to an exclusive processing circuit which removes anyresidual hum/noise. They then employ an equalizer/driver modulewhich guarantees that all signals suffer no losses in either luminanceor chrominance.

They are also fitted with a cabledriver which can push video signals up to an additional 100 feet. With these features, the Humzingers can eliminate hum caused by ACground differential and induced signal hum as well.

The UBA-2 is a broadcast quality singlechannel universal video buffer amplifierwhich combines four products into one. Itprovides high isolation buffering betweendevices by use of a high quality differen-tial input amplifier. This input stage also

provides ground isolation (hum-bucking) which reduces AC hum from inputto output. The UBA-2 uses state-of-the-art high frequency circuitry for anoperational bandwidth of 70Mhz. The output stage can drive 75 ohm videolines up to 500’ while providing amplitude and chroma response equalization.

The UBA-2 is ideal for video designer who have to runlong cables between rooms. It also serves as an excellentbuffer for interfacing long cable runs into video produc-tion equipment where a powerline connection may not becommon grounded. The UBA-2 is designed to broadcastspecs and can also be used to feed single channel analogRed, Green or Blue as well as Y or C for S-VHS formats.Three UBA-2 units make an excellent RGB driver, equaliz-er amplifier.

HUMZINGER Video Hum and Noise EliminatorThe problem of hum has been around for a long time and there are several products, like isolationtransformers and differential amplifiers that attempt to deal with it, but they all have certaindrawbacks: Transformers offer a passive solution to hum, but suffer from serious signal losses typi-cal in any passive approach. There are high quality active systems available, but the cost per chan-nel can be prohibitive.

Switching Made Easy

Comprehensive has over 25 different switchers to suit just about every application. However sometimes switch-ing may seem be a little confusing, here is an easy guide to help you to the right switcher for your application.

1) Signal Type – Establish the signal type you need to switch (Composite, Component, RGB, S-Video, VGA)

2) Audio – Many switchers will also switch your audio with the video signal, however not all do, if you need toswitch audio, make sure the model has that capability

3) Size – The size is the number of inputs or sources by (x) the number of inputs or destination

4) Passive vs. Active – Passive switchers have no active electronics, they are inexpensive and best for non-criti-cal, basic switching applications, because there are no active circuitry, you will get some glitch and roll whenswitching from one source to another. Active switchers are powered and in most cases provide “Vertical Interval”switching- meaning nice smooth glitch-free switching.

If you have a video that is too saturated, it subtracts color theway any processor would; but the BVP-4 can also actually boostthe amount of color from your video source without excesssmearing. Especially useful when using digital camcorders whichmake compromises about color information because of digitalcompression. Also, if your source footage is old and faded, thisadvanced color level works great to restore the image.

Fleshtone Restore function allows you to affect the skin tones ofany person without affecting the other colors adversely. If you trycorrecting skin tones with a regular video processor, you have touse a color phase or hue control. While this works well in somecases, it also shifts the other colors in the same proportion. Itmay fix the fleshtones, but now what about the color of the dressor background? The BVP-4 has a unique "non-linear phase

adjust." With the turn of just one knob, the BVP-4 automatical-ly adds certain colors and subtracts others at the same time forthe best facial tones (dark or light) while keeping the other colorsin check. When you have to go a few generations down, the fleshtones can look more red and more purple; this control complete-ly reverses this effect, reviving them to "first generation-looking"fleshtones.

Using a technique called Homomorphic Digital SignalProcessing (used by satellites to enhance images of earth) theBVP-4 can actually boost resolution 100 lines. The effect isclearly noticeable--a sharper, crisper picture without ghosting, noise, or artifacts. Using this control for your edit masters willgive your final product a remarkable look.

ELITE VIDEO BVP-4 plusBroadcast Video ProcessorThe BVP-4 plus is a video processor that will not only correct your videos, but makethem much better in the process--even if your source is digital. In fact, the BVP-4 is theonly processor on the market today that can actually boost resolution of your video signal.
