from Italy is that it is not simply ‘Italian’ but ‘REGIONALE’ (regional).

o Different regions in Italy are individually famous for their own signature dishes, the ingredients they use and the inspirations for their favourite meals.

o Food in Italy is more than just something which you eat to stay alive and healthy, but is more a way of life, a luxury and a part of Italian culture.

The commandments are:o Use olive oil as the main added fat (aim for around 60mls /day);o Eat vegetables with every meal (include 100g leafy greens and

100g tomatoes, and 200g other vegetables/day);o Include at least two legumes meals (250g serve) per week;o Eat at least two servings of fish (150-200g serves) per week o Eat smaller portions of meat (beef, lamb, pork and chicken) and

less often (no more than once or twice a week);o Eat fresh fruit every day and dried fruit and nuts as snacks or

dessert;o Eat yoghurt everyday (about 200g) and cheese in moderation

(about 30 to 40 grams per day);o Include wholegrain breads and cereals with meals (aim for 3-4

slices of bread per day);o Have sweets or sweet drinks for special occasions only.
