The first shot of clip 3, taken from the film ‘The Descent’ is a POV shot, showing Sarah’s daughter Jessica out of focus, in front of a birthday cake. The cake and part of the girl is then bought into focus, as she is blowing out the candles. The shot is bought into focus to enable the audience to see what the focal point of the shot is – Jessica and her birthday cake. This conveys that Sarah is hallucinating and is seeing her deceased daughter, acting as a way of mourning her death.

These shots are from when Sarah is waking up after the car accident, that caused her husbands and daughters death. This is a close up shot and this technique is used to show the audience her appearance. This is also a static shot, even though Sarah is moving, the camera stays still.

This close up shot of Sarah shows her reaction when first seeing the dark. With it being a close up shot, it really shows the audience the panic on her face, emphasizing her fear of the dark.

This is a wide shot of Sarah running down a corridor, this emphasizes her panic and fear of the dark. It suggests that she thinks there is something in the dark, running after her.

A trombone shot is being used at this point in the clip – this conveys Sarah’s panic, shock and her fear of the dark in the film. The trombone shot also goes into a close up. The bottom screenshot further shows Sarah’s fear of the dark, and suggests that there is something in the dark that she is in fear of, and is running away from – a POV shot is used to convey this.

This is a 360 tracking shot, right around Sarah and Beth. It shows how Sarah has managed to escape the dark and run into Beth’s arms. This marks the end of the clip as she is crying on Beth’s shoulder.
