Floodlit Basketball Tournament By: Sharad Kiswani (Grade 11/ IB1A)

The very first Floodlit Boarding Basketball tournament was held on Friday, April 25th. I was really excited when I heard about this tournament. I had planned on playing as well but because of an overload of work from school I was unable to take part. However, I did take some time out and watch the tournament in the evening. It was amazing to see the amount of enthusiasm and competition in the tournament. A very interesting and inspirational thing that I saw out there that day was that there were six teams in all and each team had one girl playing on their team. Everything went very well and Team ‘Chocolate Milk’ comprising of Jayden, Donghyeon, Umika, Abreez and Rehan won the tournament. It was really nice to see that all the teams made sure that every single player on their team played almost equally in all the games. I would like to also thank Samin, Suphakd, Sukanya, Edmund and Saahil on behalf of all of us spectators for putting together such an amazing event with a very awesome collection of music playing in the background throughout to go with it.

It’s Time To Leave… At every point in our lives, we experience extraordinary things. Regardless of the nature of the impact they leave behind, they manage to influence the kind of people we grow to become. These two years after I moved out of the conventional society of Saudi Arabia to a section of CIS that I call my second home, have been a revelation to me in numerous ways. I have always been a family person; I value the comfort and unconditional love and support I receive from my family because it is what picks me up when I fall to the ground. To even be able to call the people here my extended family is what surprises me; to think that a group of strangers can walk into your life and overtime, begin to be like laces to your shoes is overwhelming. My two years in CIS would have been so devoid of any kind of spiritual realization if it wasn’t for my hobo of a room mate, Tanushree. Being the complete opposites of each other when we started out, it’s amusing to see how we’ve rubbed off on each other by the end of these two years. Oddly enough, I occasionally pull out my plaid shirt and khakis that hide within the depths of my closet and find a way to sport it. Even better, the other day. she suggested that we get our ‘hair and nails done’; coming from a girl who obsesses over everything you shouldn’t: guys that exist only in Japanese comics and songs about transforming robots. Apart from the loveable bully I’ve had to deal with in my room, I’ve also had to handle plenty of craziness from Gauri and Umika. From the random visits in the middle of the night to the counseling (Gauri, you know what I mean hehe), it has been a privilege having to deal with these sillies. Above all, my inspiration to become a better, more responsible and considerate person comes from Ms. Radhika and Mr. Raghush. Going out of her way to make us happy, unconditionally supporting us but never letting us get away with our mischief and having been the one person who has stood up and by us through almost everything. Ms. Radhika is one of those blessings in disguise. With our best interest in mind, she has been the one person who has pushed me to see the best in people. Mr. Raghush on the other hand has always brought me down to earth and I thank him for making me a stronger person and helping me get through my troubles. Also, you have to appreciate how concerned and considerate Bala is and how he magically produces all the goodies you ask for in a nutshell. It’s amazing how a bunch of strangers can connect on so many levels and become the best of companions and its even better when you discover that you’re actually related to some of these retards. Pranshu, KarKar, Submarine, Prins (keep it real doe), Pranitha, Joe, Tuhina, Sid, Hannah, Abreez, Aquib, Beam, Yuganth and Rhea (for the time that you were here and accepted me into your abode in the middle of my lonely nights), much love to you guys for making my stay here so entertaining. -Jessica Rasheed (Graduate, Class of 2014)

This particular picture was when we missed Jess so much, we decided to make fun of her :P hehe, sorry Jess. Anyway, these girls are like the sisters I've always wanted. Because of them, I don't have one single best memory from boarding, but a bunch of them. All those long nights, just talking, being there for each

other, or trying to make plans to hang out but failing even though we literally live across each other, bring a smile to my

face. I'll miss living with you guys. :/ Umi, Tanu Jess, you better keep in touch okay?

Love Gauri…<3

Editors’ Note: A very warm welcome from the editors of the CIS Boarding Chronicle.

The months of May and June have flown by very quickly. It is the last week of school and everyone is so eager to go home. The Class of 2014 has graduated spectacularly and everyone is done with their exams. A small request from us is that if you have done terribly in any of your subjects then work very hard towards improving them during the summer. It has been one very breath-taking year and we love all of you so much. This is the last edition for this year. It is very sad for us to leave such an amazing committee behind however on the bright side we have next year’s Boarding Chronicle to look forward to.

Feel free to leave comments on our articles, to share your thoughts and suggestions or ask to the author a question. We appreciate your support and are so happy to have you all as readers of The Boarding Chronicle. With A Hearty Thanks,
