The Art Department

We would like to thank you for your generous contributions of recy-clables for both the Elementary and Secondary Art Programs. We have received most of the items we were in need of, and would still appreciate the following:

National Geographic-type magazines

Used towels and sheets

Old hair blowers

Old blenders

Left-over house paints for set design

We greatly appreciate your donations to the Art program, and will let you know if there is a need for more recycla-bles in the future!

Thank you!

Heroes for Hannah

A special thanks to all of the members of the CIS

Community who participated, donated and sup-

ported the Heroes for Hannah event last Friday,

September 11. With your help, the event brought

in over $320,000 to give to the St. Baldrick’s Foun-

dation to assist in childhood cancer research. A

teacher at CIS, Ms. Jody, and her daughters

(pictured), baked items and brought them to school

to help raise funds. Again, thank you to all who

played an important role in this event.

Secondary Headlines Cont’d

Middle School and High School students got involved in

solving instant challenges this week during their science

classes. They used their 21st Century skills of collabora-

tion, communication, critical

thinking and creativity to build a

tower as tall as possible that could

hold a balloon on top.

CIS is hoping to have some High

School and Middle School students embark on one of the

five possible DI challenges. For more information con-

tact Ms. Krista [email protected] .

Individual and team registration forms are accepted in

the office.

On Friday of last week we held our annual IB Kick Off event,

which welcomed our juniors into the programme and welcomed

back our seniors to their final year!

The after-school event comprised of team building games included two grade lev-

els working together to demonstrate that they have the attributes of an IB Learner

– thinkers, knowledgeable, risk takers, communicators,

caring, balanced,

open-minded, reflec-

tive, inquirers, and

principled. We be-

gan with Human

Bingo, getting to

know one another a

little better, and

then the students were split up into teams to complete a

series of challenges! The winners of each challenge took

away a small prize and everyone left for the weekend

feeling energized and enthusiastic about the year ahead.

Our IB students have a lot of challenges to face in the

coming months, and we wish them the very best of luck

for a successful year!

This year our CIS Model UN Team has grown to an astounding 21 members, and we’ve already started looking

ahead to the exciting events we have planned for this year.

We decided this year that we would have a student leadership committee to run the team, and we are pleased to

announce that Sarah F, Meagan C and Daniel N were elected by their peers. As our longest serving member, and

indeed a founding member of CIS Model UN, Sarah F will take up the role of Team Captain, with Meagan and Dan-

iel as Vice Captains. We are confident that they will do a brilliant job of leading the rest of us through what lies ahead.

This year we will be returning to the CIMUN Conference in Chicago in December,

marking our fourth entry to the competition! We will be representing Jordan, which

means we not only have a seat on the League of Arab States, discussing the current

situation in MENA, but we also have a much prized place on the Security Council! In

addition to this we have spots on the Chinese cabinet, the Iranian cabinet, the US Sen-

ate and the International Press Delegation – it’s going to be a busy conference!

We are also hoping to host the first ever inter-school Model UN competition on is-

land, CISMUN, in November. Our team members are working hard to put together

the materials and literature for the conference, so watch this space for updates…!

Welcome back Model UN-ers, and here’s to another awesome year!
