It's composed of three zones:

CÂMARA MUNICIPAL DA MAIA

Maia City Hall:

• is the autarkic organ of this municipality

• It's mission is to promote the development of

the municipality in all areas just as: health,

education, social action, environment,

transport and communications, sport and

culture and civil protection.

• The main objective is to define and execute

policies aimed at defending the interests and

meeting the needs of the local population.

TORRE DO LIDADOR

• Is an emblematic work of this county and the dynamism of its

population.

• Represents the opening of a new cycle of progress and development.

• Its main objective is the installation of municipal services

• It is a reference of the city, with 92 meters of height, being the 5th

building taller of the country and the highest outside the city of Lisbon.

• It is visible from any of the ten parishes of the city.

• Represents the transparency and openness of Local Government, the

accessibility of the Maia City Hall vis-à-vis citizens.

• It is an open and transparent workspace.

• Inaugurated on July 9, 2001 by the Architect António Machado

IGREJA NOSSA SENHORA DO BOM DESPACHO

• The origins of the parish date back to a time before nationality.

• The earliest reference date to 1128

• The Shrine, dating from 1738 is one of the most beautiful temples of the

Great Harbor.

• It presents a typical plant of the Counter-Reformation, constituted by a

single ship that ends in a quadrangular Mor-Chapel.

• He was born in 1838 in Maia

• He financed works of public interest

• In 1882, D. Luis attributed to him the title of viscount

ESTÁTUA DO DOUTOR JOSÉVIEIRA DA CARVALHO

• José Vieira de Carvalho was born in 1938

• He was teacher in Faculdade de Letras do Porto

• In 1970 he was named president of Maia city hall

• He died on June 1, 2002 with 64 years

IGREJA DE SANTA MARIA(NOSSA SENHORA DO Ó)

• National monument since 1910

• A roman church with simple architecture and only

two naves

• The reconstruction of the primitive church was in

1097.

• Ever since its reconstruction it has been linked to

religious orders, the knights of the Holy Sepulchre,

Hospitallers, and Order of Malta.

• Its patron saint is Nossa Senhor do Ó.

• Built in a small hermitage in the

XVI century (1580) in honour

of Nossa Senhora do Guadalupe

• In 1633 and 1722 works of

expansion and conservation

were carried out

• In May 2006 this whole set was

the subject of conservation and

restoration works, preserving

the frescoes of the life of Cristo

in the dome and the walls

MUSEU DE HISTÓRIA E ETNOLOGIO DA MAIA

• A building which was probably built in the 18th century

• A simple and traditional two floor design

• Until 1902 it worked as an administration centre – Town Hall

• Afterwards it was used as a primary school; headquarters of

Sport Clube do Castêlo da Maia; Local Authority of Santa Maria

de Avioso; post office and civil registry.

• In 2001 it was inaugurated as the Museum of History and

Ethnology of the Land of Maia.
