The Word of God teaches us
that tribulation worketh pa-
tience—that is through our tri-
als, we learn how to wait and
the importance of waiting on
God. Through our waiting,
patience develops experience. We
have experienced personally
how God delivers and makes
ways for us. Finally, experi-
ence develops hope. Through
these experiences, we are able
to hope against hope, and have
an even greater hope in God.
As a believer, we have the as-
surance that God uses all of
what we have been through to
mold and shape us to become
more like Him. Once we were
slaves to sin. We were misera-
ble as a servant to sin. Since
coming to Christ, we have
come to our senses and see
that there is victory in obeying
the Word of God. Now that
we have been delivered, we
know the importance of obey-
ing God from the heart. We
have been made righteous be-
cause we believe.
God will not allow us to be
tempted above that which we
are able. He promised to be
there with us, no matter what
we go through. When we look
back over our lives, we can
remember what the Lord has
done for us. With the choices
we made, we were killing our-
selves and “walking down
death row.” The journey of
life we were on was rough and
often full of guilt and regret.
Since coming to Christ, each
day we awake, we go from
miracle to miracle, blessing to
blessing, strength to strength.
No matter what we face, Christ
reminds us to be of good
cheer, for HE has overcome
the world. In that HE has
overcome the world and He is
in us, we have overcome the
world too.
God will allow us to be tested
in ways which will cause us to
recognize our weaknesses and
those areas we need to work
on to effectively carry the mes-
sage of the gospel to others.
Through every storm, every
test, every difficult situation,
and every disappointment,
God is preparing us to work
for Him. By observing how
we endure our trials, God is
preparing us for greater works,
when He sees how we carry
our burdens, and still keep a
praise on our lips.
God desires to use our abilities,
our strengths, our words, and
our talents to bring others to
Him. Before coming to Christ,
the devil had control over our
thoughts and our actions, mak-
ing us servants to sin. Howev-
er, with people all around us,
even at big parties and social
events, there was still some-
thing missing on the inside,
something not complete, that
only Jesus could satisfy. God
did not deliver you to let you
fall apart now. We are all spe-
cial in God’s sight. When the
devil tries to magnify our prob-
lems, when fiery darts
(uncomfortable situations) are
thrown at us from the devil, we
may squirm, we may holler, but
we know in the end, God has
already fixed it so that we will
win!
We are in the world, but not of
it! In the book of Exodus,
God’s mercy was extended
when the cattle of the children
of Israel were spared from the
plague which slew the cattle of
the Egyptians who persecuted
God’s people.
In the same way, today, in spite
of the economic situations in
the country, God’s people con-
tinue to prosper. Instead of
the news dictating our emo-
tions, our finances, and our
well being, our lives are de-
fined by the Word of God.
Whatever our hands touch,
prospers to the glory of God!
No weapon formed against me
shall prosper.
Once slaves to sin, we prosper
and are blessed and highly fa-
vored as servants of righteous-
ness, through faith in the Lord
Jesus Christ!
Words from the Bishop: “Once a slave to sin, now a servant unto righteousness!”

Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine
Stay out of direct sunlight
If you must be outdoors, wear sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) greater than 15
Wear light-colored, loose fitting clothing
Limit outdoor physical activity—try to plan activities for the coolest parts of the day—morning and evening
Do not leave pets outside without shade or water
Never leave children, the elderly or pets in a parked car, not even for a few minutes—air temperatures rise
rapidly during hot weather and can cause serious health risks
Bathe frequently, cool off in public pools, or visit air-conditioned public places like shopping malls, libraries
or theaters
Keep draperies and blinds drawn during the height of the day minimizing the amount of heat coming into
your home from the sun
Use ceiling and other fans—moving air feels cooler, and fans circulate cooled air throughout the house
Cooking in the microwave and grilling out (after the sun goes down) mean less heat in your kitchen
Watch for signs of heat stroke: fainting, feeling nauseous, fast pulse rate, flushed skin—SEEK MEDICAL
ATTENTION IF YOU EXPERIENCE THESE CONDITIONS

1 Timothy 5:8
Scripture clearly teaches us that
God has singled out the man
to be in charge of the family
unit. (Genesis 3:16) The Lord
loves both man and woman
equally, but He gave to man
the responsibility of heading
the family. Even when a father
does not live up to expecta-
tions, he is still the leader be-
cause God does not change
His mind.
A father’s responsibility can be
summarized in one word: pro-
vision. He is to see to the
physical needs of his house-
hold. Even more importantly,
he provides for emotional
needs. Some dads cannot give
their families luxury cars or
fancy houses. Every dad
should share his time and love,
which works to build the self-
esteem of his children.
Fathers are also spiritually ac-
countable. It is primarily Dad’s
job to teach the children to
read Scripture and pray. The
man should ensure the house-
hold worships at a church that
proclaims biblical principles.
The responsibility for spiritual
growth should not be delegat-
ed solely to even the most god-
ly wife.
To aid with living a godly life,
the Lord gives the Holy Spirit
to every believer—this includes
dads bearing the burden of
their responsibility. Fathers,
the Spirit of God will enable
you to be a godly leader.

example and from then on they
worked together smoothly.
When they reached the monas-
tery and asked to see Brother
Leo, the monk who greeted
them laughed. He then said,
“Our brother is among you!”
He then pointed to the fellow
who had joined them along the
way.
Today, many people seek lead-
ership positions, not so much
for what they can do for oth-
ers, but for what the position
can do for them: status, con-
nections, perks, and ad-
vantages. They do service as
an investment or a way to build
an impressive resume.
The parable about Brother Leo
teaches another model of lead-
ership, where leaders are pre-
occupied with serving rather
than being followed, with giv-
ing rather than getting, with
doing rather than demanding.
This is leadership based on
example, not command. This
type of leadership is called
servant leadership.
Can you imagine how much
better things would be if more
politicians, educators, business
executives, and God’s people
saw themselves as servant lead-
ers?
The Parable of Brother Leo Written by Michael Josephson
A legend tells of a French
monastery known throughout
Europe for the extraordinary
leadership of a man known
only as Brother Leo. Several
monks began a pilgrimage to
visit Brother Leo to learn from
him. Almost immediately, they
began to bicker about who
should complete various
chores as they went about their
journey.
On the third day they met an-
other monk going to the mon-
astery as well, and he joined
them. This monk never com-
plained or shirked a duty.
Whenever the others would
fight over a chore, he would
gracefully volunteer and then
do it himself. By the last day,
the others were following his

Fireworks Safety for the Entire Family
The summer heat, the smell of hamburgers on the grill, and the
sound of firecrackers can only mean one thing. It’s the Fourth of
July. With warm weather and family events, the holiday can be a
fun time with great memories. But before your family celebrates
this year, make sure everyone knows about fireworks safety. The
best way to protect your family and enjoy the holiday is to attend a
professional, public fireworks display. However, if you live in a
state that allows do-it-yourself celebrations, KidsHealth.org offers
the following safety tips:
1. Do not let children play with fireworks; make sure they are out-
side and keep fireworks away from face, clothing, and hair.
2. Buy only legal fireworks and store them in a cool, dry place.
3. Never try to make your own fireworks, even from a kit.
4. Choose fireworks that are appropriate for the area. Avoid using
rocket-like fireworks in the backyard of a residential area.
5. Steer clear of others. Fireworks have been known to backfire or
shoot off in the wrong direction.
6. Keep a bucket of water and a hose nearby. Soak all fireworks
in a bucket of water before disposing of them.
7. Light one firework at a time and never relight a dud. If a fire-
work doesn’t appear to work, don’t go near it. Stand back,
wait, and then douse with water.

PSORIASIS
Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that causes thick red marks that look like scales to form. The thick scaling is due to an increase
in the number of skin cells. The cause of psoriasis starts with the immune system. T cells, a type of white blood cell, usually protect
the body against infection and disease by attacking bacteria and viruses. However, when you have psoriasis, your T cells mistakenly
attack your skin cells instead. Your body then produces other immune system responses, leading to swelling and rapid production
of skin cells. Psoriasis tends to run in families and it usually appears between the ages of 10 and 45.
People who have psoriasis may experience periods of time without any symptoms. Other times, psoriasis will “flare up” (get worse).
Certain things that can cause the psoriasis to get worse include: infections (such as strep throat and the common cold), diseases that
weaken the immune system, stress, certain medicines (such as beta-blockers for high blood pressure and drugs used to prevent ma-
laria), skin irritations, cold weather, and smoking.
The symptoms of psoriasis may include: Red, raised patches of scaly skin, dry, cracked skin that may also bleed at times, skin that
burns, is itchy or sore, thick, pitted fingernails, and pus-filled blisters on the red patches of skin (in more severe cases).
A person who has psoriasis may have red, scaly patches on the skin of the knees and elbows, although psoriasis may occur anywhere
on the body (including the scalp, palms of the hands, soles of the feet, mouth and skin on the joints).
Psoriasis is not contagious. You cannot catch psoriasis from another person or give it to someone by touching them. You also can-
not spread psoriasis to other parts of your body. Taken from familydoctor.org
