NIKE DECLARES BANKRUPCY!!

By Andrea Ortega &

After so many years of exploiting people in their factories in Vietnam, Pakistan, Indonesia and China, Nike Factory has been declared bankrupt, thanks to the efforts of organizations like UNICEF, Amnesty International, The UN and many people around the world that stopped buying Nike products and helped spread the facts around the world.

It all started in June 1996, when Life Magazine revealed a picture, in an article about child labor in Pakistan, which showed a 12 year old boy surrounded by Nike soccer balls. The article revealed that this boy would spend the whole day stitching these balls, for the grand sum of 60 cents a day. In matter of weeks people from all over the United States were standing in front of Nike’s stores holding this picture. The picture was later made public all around the world through the Internet, and Television, people were shocked and stopped buying Nike products.

Thanks to these actions Nike’s sales dropped dramatically, which eventually led to the company’s bankruptcy. Other companies around the world realized that exploiting their employees could become a huge threat on their sales levels, they realized that they must give better salaries and better treatment to their employees; otherwise they

know that they can have the same results as Nike Factory did.Years before this situation occurred companies like Nike Factory got away with human slavery, but thanks to this information, costumers all around the word have become more conscious and are willing to punish companies who don’t respect the human rights by not buying their products.

By Gabriela Villagómez & Said Melo

This morning Vernor Muñoz ONU’s special rapporteur declare that after many discussions the SEP (Secretaria de Educación Pública) and SNTE (Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación) carry out an alliance in pro of education after Elba Esther Gordillo died in fatal a car accident. Through this partnership the investment in education growing up 3% and now it represents 8% of PIB.

It has also been agreed between managers and teachers, therefore, strikes have declined and so the students make the most of the classes that are at the appropriate curriculum.

One of the major actions that have improved in school education in Mexico is no longer limited to certain sectors of society. The education community has reached the most remote communities offering studies in their own languages.

It should be noted that education has gone so far as expected, since it has strengthened the skills of teachers in areas such as pedagogic

psychology and update their own areas, because of this Mexico is having a big progress in education statistics last year it was the last in the OECD statistics and now has risen 3 levels along with Brazil, Turkey and Colombia.

However, safety in schools is affected by gang violence. It is said that by educating children will not have to punish the men, so it is contemplated that violence is diminishing as more students enter schools.

Meanwhile, the SEP has developed new temporary jobs to protect the materials found in classrooms.

The Mexican Senate has 40% of women participation

By Penélope Barreto & Juan Antonio Macías.

The Mexican Senate shows to the world that women represent almost half of the population of the Senate. This is a big step for Mexico and for the world, because it represents a good example of women power, but also an example that all countries should follow not just developing countries, but also developed ones. wanted to be

candidates. This happened mainly on the states of Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Quintana Roo. And now we have that 15% of this 40% of politician women are indigenous women who are highly active on the Senate. Their main goal is to obtain a fair treatment for all the indigenous and be part of the Mexican economy. Until now this initiative has been very successful, since now Mexican trust more on the government and the system, but as well because women are highly active. These women are wives, mothers, daughters, leaders, but the most important is that they are women who want a better country for their people.

These women have shown up initiative, courage, leadership, but above all these women have broken the stereotype of being rule by men; having a balance when decisions are made. Their presence in the Senate gives another perspective to all the senators and how Mexican laws

HUMAN RIGHTS The Daily News. 8/03/2012

are made which are more equal. Since now that there are more women working at the Senate, women feel more represented on their country. As a consequence of the same women but also men trust more on the Mexican system. This initiative started with Josefina Vazquez Mota

after she won the Mexican presidency on 2012, and the first thing she did was to make a decree that there has to be at least 40% of women in the Senate. So in the next elections Mexicans started seeing more women being candidates but also indigenous women who also

Law of Zero Impunity gets the green light in Mexico.

By Carlos Núñez & Sergio Maldonado. . Today, as of 2012-03-08, at 10:39 in the morning, the president of the Mexico has announced that both chambers of the legislative branch have approved the so-called “Law of Zero Impunity” and the initiative is to be enforced nationally by the end of the week.

charges of treason without a right for tiral. To ensure full transparency, every documented progress in the investigations are to be shown online in real time for public access in order to prevent the typical “file loss” that usually happens in the investigation of high-profile subjects. The files are not to be modified but rather newer versions uploaded while keeping the old ones in place, and any backing up of the files by citizens or NGOs are not to be reprimanded.

Following the success of the law, the Senate is currently under discussion to modify the law approval process to ensure that no law can be passed in under 5 months of discussion and public acknowledgement before being sent to the executive branch.

The announcement of the law’s much needed approval indicates the greatest advancement in public politics of transparency in the last 4 decades, and is counted as a gigantic step towards the complete cleansing of the public bodies that compose the democratic federal government in Mexico, since it enables the fair and

public trials of any government official. As stated by the president’s announcement, all government officials with a police record of felonies will be forced to resign from their positions and replaced by the Senate and Chamber of Deputies for a period not longer than 12 months, followed by an election process that will take place locally to define the new officials that

will step up. This means that no government branch will be allowed to permit the staying of any individual, and all investigations are to be carried out fully until its conclusion is ensured with no exceptions. Any federal judge that closes a case throughout its process, or at the beginning of it, is to be imprisoned with
