Citrix – Installing the Receiver and using Apps – Windows 10
1. Click on Search (next to the Start symbol)
2. Type Internet Explorer and you will see the desktop app
appear. Right click on it and pin it to the taskbar for future
use.
3. Click Internet Explorer Desktop App to open the Desktop
version of Internet Explorer.
N.B. DO NOT USE EDGE!
4. You may see this is you have not connected to the internet
(or the BYOD wifi service at school) – you will need to
connect to a wifi service
5. Type https://remote.gdc.sa.edu.au into the address bar and press enter:
DON’T FORGET THE ‘S’ after ‘HTTP’ in the address bar!
6. WAIT……………………………………..!! It sometimes takes a while to connect.
You should now see a message to install the Citrix Receiver:
7. Tick the “I agree” box and click

8. Click Run to download and install the Citrix Receiver without saving it, or Save as (click little drop
down arrow) if you want to download it and run it from your laptop.
9. You should now see the Citrix download progress bar at the bottom of the screen:
10. When you get a message saying the download has completed, click Run
11. WAIT! You might see one, both or none of the following two images – if not, jump to no.12:
Click Run if you see this message
Click Yes if you see this message

12. Click Start
13. Tick the I Accept the license agreement box
14. Click Install
15. A message might appear at the bottom of the screen – if it does, Click Allow
16. WAIT! …….The installation can take a few minutes………….
17. Click Finish
18. WAIT! ……It may look like nothing is happening……….

19. Click Allow if this message appears
20. You should now be presented with a logon screen. Before you log in, add this web address to your
Favourites Toolbar
21. To see your Favourites toolbar, right click in the blank area above the address bar around the area
marked in the pic below with a
22. Tick Favourites Bar
on the list
23. Click the little star on the left of your new toolbar to add the address Citrix Receiver to your
Favourites Bar – this will add a shortcut to GDC Citrix Workspace, making it easy to find it again :)
24. Now enter your
curriculum account username
and password

33. You should now be presented with your Citrix Storefront.
34. You will see your Favourites tab first. To start with, you will just see the Citrix Desktop icon, but you
can customise this by adding more favourites from your list of apps for easy access.
35. Now click on the Apps tab – here you will see all of your available apps. These apps work like the
apps on your phone – select an app from here if you only want to use that one app. N.B. You need to
be in a special group to access 3D apps, your teacher will need to request access to this for you.
36. To add apps to your Favourites page, for example the Word App, click on the word Details next to
the app, then Add to Favourites

37. Your app will now appear on your Favourites page
Citrix Desktop:
The Citrix Desktop App is the one you need to use if you want to perform multiple tasks – e.g. browse the
internet, use Microsoft Word, check Daymap etc. This will give you a virtual desktop experience, making
your laptop look like and act like a school laptop.
38. Click on the Citrix Desktop icon to open it
39. A security scan will run and then this message will pop up at the bottom of the screen. Click on Open
40. A new window should open, informing you that Citrix Desktop is connecting.
41. You will now be presented with your Citrix desktop. As you can see, it looks just like our school
laptops, except for the little black bar at the top:

42. Your virtual desktop opens in a new window, on top of your Storefront. If you want to work in full
screen, click on the little black tab at the top of the screen and it will give you a drop down menu.
Select Full-screen. Or…. You can use the maximise button top right of the
window.
43. You will now be able to open and save files in your network folder (in windows explorer, browse to
your H:/drive) and be able to print to a school printer.
44. N.B. Any files left open in a Citrix session will still be open next time you log in. If you want to work
on them outside of Citrix, make sure you close all files before signing out or disconnecting.
45. To exit full screen, click on the black menu bar again and select Window. You can also check out your
Preferences here.
46. To exit Citrix Desktop, simply sign out as normal, or select Disconnect from the menu bar – this
option will leave any files open.
