Personnel:
Sergeant Carey Ferrell will be finishing up in
a light duty capacity this week; he has been
fully cleared by his doctor to return to his
normal patrol duties next week.
Detectives:
This week Detectives Holman and Berg were
traveling on I-35 when a vehicle passed them
at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was
performed and as detectives approached the
vehicle an odor of marijuana was discovered
coming from inside. In addition, the driver of
the vehicle had a revoked license and an
outstanding warrant for his arrest. Upon
further investigation, a small amount of
marijuana was discovered inside the vehicle.
The driver was arrested and transported to
the Carlton County Law Enforcement Center
where it was further discovered that he had
12 bindles of Heroin in his possession. The
suspect, a 21-year-old Cloquet man, was
formally charged with possession of heroin
and introducing contraband and/or drugs into
a jail facility.
Patrol:
On Tuesday Sergeant Palmer attempted to
perform a traffic stop on a vehicle for
expired registration. The driver failed to stop
and a short pursuit took place. The driver of
the vehicle ultimately exited his vehicle and
fled on foot. Palmer pursued the suspect on
foot for several blocks ultimately locating and
taking him into custody without incident.
Through the investigation it was learned the
reason why the defendant was fleeing from
Palmer was the fact that he had baggies
containing methamphetamine. The suspect, a
22-year-old Cloquet man, was lodged at the
Carlton County Law Enforcement Center.
The suspect was formally charged with
Possession of a Controlled Substance, Fleeing
a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Fleeing
on Foot and Driving after Revocation.
Community Service:
On Monday, Officers Reed and Martin
provided a presentation on In-house Safety
and Internet Safety to a group of Cub Scouts
at Grace Baptist Church.
Wednesday I took part in the monthly
TRIAD meeting. TRIAD is law enforcement
and seniors coming together to help reduce
criminal victimization of the elderly. This
month's topic was Vulnerable Adult Services
that are offered in Carlton County.
