PATROL:
On Wednesday Cloquet officers responded
to the Walmart Supercenter to a report of a
shoplifting in progress. When officers
arrived they met with store personnel who
advised them that they observed an
individual removing security tags with some
sort of knife and concealing items on his
person. As the suspect attempted to leave the
store, he was apprehended by officers.
Through the investigation, officers and store
personnel were to were able to determine
that the suspect had stole approximately
$600 worth of merchandise through the use
of a shoplifting tool. The suspect, a 25 year
old Duluth man, was taken into custody
without incident and transported to the
Carlton County Law Enforcement Center
where he was formally charged with
Possession of Burglary/Theft Tools and
Gross Misdemeanor Theft.
DETECTIVES:
On Wednesday, acting on information
received, Cloquet detectives followed up on
a previously reported burglary from mid-
June. Through their investigation and the
new information provided they were able to
determine that two firearms had been stolen
from a residence in Scanlon.
Detectives interviewed a suspect and
ultimately arrested the 21-year-old
Scanlon man. The suspect was
transported to the Carlton County Law
Enforcement Center where he was
formally charged with Burglary in the
Second Degree.
MISCELLANEOUS:
The Department's sonic wall/firewall
that operates and monitors the internet
within our building failed this week
and caused operational issues. Superior
Computer was on site just about all of
Monday trying to troubleshoot the
problem and ultimately determined it
was a failed firewall unit. They were
able to give us a temporary fix and a
new firewall unit has been ordered.
COMMUNITY SERVICE:
On Wednesday of this week Detective
Darrin Berg presented to the TRIAD
group on current crime trends. Darrin
spoke on thefts, burglaries, shoplifting
and what senior citizens can do to
protect themselves from these types of
crimes. The presentation was at the
Carlton County Transportation
Building. TRIAD is seniors and law
enforcement coming together to try to
reduce the victimization of the elderly
and/or seniors. The group was very
involved and had a lot of questions.
