OPERATIONS:Since my last newsletter, we have gone througha few changes and made progress towards somegoals.
With the help of Less crew, we have continued
to renew our patrol squad room and evidenceintake area. Installation of our new evidencelocker system is done as is the configuration ofthe room to be used as an evidence intake and
packaging area, a report preparation area, and
supervisory workspace. Last week, we installedour new evidence tracking software on theserver and will be up and running very shortly.
As part of our staff development goals, we have
had some personnel movement in 2015.Detective Holman along with his K-9 partner
Raja are now working with a patrol crew.Holman brings years of experience as a detectivecoupled with his success as a street supervisor
and we are looking forward to his integrationinto a new team. Officer Scott Beckman has
been assigned to work alongside our Detectivesto take advantage of an opportunity to furtherdevelop his investigative skills.
We have begun ordering equipment tooutfit two of our newest vehicles for useon the street. We will be rotating out ouroldest Ford sedan that has been starting tofail mechanically.
COMMUNITY SERVICE:Our staff participated in the CloquetSchools in-service training day in lateDecember. Information related to recent
trends in drug abuse was presented toschool staff in two one-hour sessions.
Detective Randall has been actively
engaged with the Carlton County DrugCourt Team. Recently he assisted in a
policy meeting and has been involved in
the weekly drug court process.
Next week I am attending a MinnesotaHousing Institute workshop as a first step
towards our participation on a local teamexploring issues and solutions to Cloquetarea housing needs.
PATROL/DETECTIVES:
This week we had success using NIXLEand Facebook to solve a crime that
occurred at a convenience store inScanlon. An image was captured on videoof an unidentified woman stealing a walletfrom the counter in the store. After the
photo was put out on our social media
outlets, the suspect was quickly identifiedand located in Duluth. The case is stillunder investigation and charges are
