HafenCity Chronic 1997 the new project to build the HafenCity has been confirmed 1998 the senators commission for city development,

environment, economy, and transportation established a development plan

1999 a draft of the master plan was established 2000 – the draft was confirmed by the senators 2003 the senate decides to build a new subway line which

connects the HafenCity with the city center (check public transportation for more information)

2004 the first apartments were finished and the HafenCity received its first inhabitants

2005 three drafts receive architecural awards

HafenCity Chronic II 2007 a European wide competition for eco-friendly building projects

has been awarded for the HafenCity buildings (participants have been challenged with a very low CO2-indicator)

2007 the Elbphilharmonie project has been confirmed 2008 an event called „Planning Urbanity: Life, Work, Space in the New

Downtown“ took place, which lured new people to Hamburg 2008 – the costs for the Elbphilharmonie initially increased about

209.000.000 € to 323.300.000 € which causes temper around tax payers

2009 - the first school building has been finished 2009 – the HafenCity received an award for the best marketing of a

city borough 2009 – the energy company „Dalkia“ receives the order to provide the

borough with energy. A very low CO2-indicator is part of their concept

St. Pauli Chronic When St. Pauli was founded in the early 1700s it wasn‘t

a Hamburg city borough In the End of the 17th century the City Hamburg

transfered their poorhouses to St. Pauli. In the beginning of the 19th century St. Pauli suffered

under the occupation of Napoleon and their destruction. After Napoleons army left St. Pauli rehabilitaded itself

astonishingly fast. 1820 St. Pauli had it‘s old shape again Until 1894 St. Pauli was a place for builders, prostitutes

and people thoes where banned from Hamburg

St. Pauli Chronic II1894 St. Pauli became a part of Hamburg but

it was still a borough for the poor peopleFrom those days, St. Pauli received its filthy

image which became a label brand for Hamburg

Nowadays St. Pauli belongs to the district Hamburg Mitte and is an important tourism magnet

No other city borough has such an unique flair as St. Pauli
