City of Bristol College This college library modernisation project required the existing ‘L’ shaped library space to be completely transformed to maximise its appeal with students. The client was keen to create a light, bright and modern space that was welcoming, functional and comfortable. Three distinct study areas have been designed to maximise student engagement and facilitate learning. The main study zone encourages active study, the bold white and red bespoke reception desk is located in the centre of the ‘L’ shaped library to enhance visibility and service provision. Strategically positioned white Latitude shelving with perforated steel end panels, give clear lines of sight enhancing light and shape throughout. Also in this area is the careers desk and three further bays of white Latitude library shelving, featuring red back panels to define the area and attract attention. An informal ‘Quiet’ study zone where students can work in pairs or small groups has been incorporated into the space with a red and white pod desk providing a service point during busy periods. The ‘Silent’ study zone provides study space for more than twenty students at a time. www.frem.co.uk Tel: +44 (0)1604 756567 Fax: +44 (0)1604 586980 Email: [email protected] Head Office: Concept House, Upton Valley Way East, Pineham Business Park, Northampton, England, NN4 9EF. “Frem created a design concept which was in tune with our needs, suggesting the appropriate furniture and a colour scheme to add vibrancy. Frem worked within the budget and the new LRC looks very smart and colourful, with a welcoming feel. The service we received from Frem was outstanding. I would definitely recommend Frem to others planning a refurbishment.“ Sue Caporn, Learning Resources Service Manager, City of Bristol College
