RESOLUTION NO. 10660

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULAVISTA EXTENDING AN INVITATION TO THE CITY OF ODAWARA,JAPAN TO BECOME A SISTER CITY AND INVITING THE PEOPLEOF ODAWARA, JAPAN TO PARTICIPATE IN SAID PROGRAM

The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does herebyresolve as follows:

WHEREAS, the Sister City Concept was inaugurated by thepresident of the United States in 1966 to establish greaterfriendship and understanding between the people of the UnitedStates and other nations through the medium of direct personalcontact, and

WHEREAS, all succeeding U. S. Presidents have endorsedsaid program, to be conducted for the broad purposes of theexchange of ideas and people between the citizens of the UnitedStates of America and the peoples of other nations, and

WHEREAS, to implement this program, Chula Vista and othercommunities in the United States have been requested by SisterCities International to affiliate with cities in other nations ofsimilar characteristics cind mutual interest, and

WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista through its Council,does recognize and endorse this program with the hope that it willlead to a lasting friendship between the people of Chula Vista andOdawara, Japan.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of theCity of Chula Vista as follows:

SECTION 1. That this Council on behalf of the people ofChula Vista does hereby extend an invitation to the government andthe people of the City of Odawara, Japan to participate with ChulaVista as its Sister City for the purposes'^ of creating greatermutual understanding between the peoples of our two great citiesand nations.

SECTION 2. The Mayor is hereby authorized to act asofficial representative of Chula Vista to carry out this program.

SECTION 3. That copies of this Resolution are to be sentto the Mayor and Council of the City of Odawara, Japan, SisterCities International in Washington, D.C., the Embassy of Japan,and the U. S. Embassy in Japan.

A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITIES OF ODAWARA, KANAGAWA,JAPAN, AND CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A.

DECLARING THEIR INTENT TO ESTABLISH ASISTER CITY RELATIONSHIP.

The Cities of Odawara and Chula Vista do proclaim as follows:

WHEREAS, the citizens of the cities ofOdawara-Kanagawa, Japan and Chula Vista,California, U.S.A. do mutually agree to establish a Sister City affiliation to deepenthe friendship between the cities based on mutual understanding and confidencebetween our countries and to develop a permanent relationship, and;

WHEREAS, the purpose of this relationship is to further friendship, and contributeto both cities' development and the peace of the world by exchanging educationand culture, industry and economy, childrens' and students' works, and a person-to-person exchange with a country enjoying different lifestyle and environment;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE CITIES OF CHULA VISTAAND ODAWARA THAT:

The Mayors of each City will affix by his hand his signature to this proclamationestablishing a Sister City relationship between Odawara-Kanagawa, Japan andChula Vista, California, U.S.A.
