our aim is to give regional juniors the opportunity to access services currently offered to the city juniors in the way of modern coaching technology such as ball flight measurement devices among other feedback systems. To also introduce areas of physical development to the juniors would allow a more rounded skill development model. the coaching team of Technical coach and physical trainers will then be able to liaise with the students on a level similar to that of what's available in the city.

THE CITY OF MOUNT GAMBIER JUNIOR SPORTS ASSISTANCE FUND IS A COMMITTEE OF THE CITY OF MOUNT GAMBIER
SPECIAL NOTES In preparing an application for a possible financial donation, Member Organisations are reminded of the following: (i) the funding criteria for specialised junior coaching clinics has been extended to include not only the
coaching of skilled juniors, but also for the coaching of coaches and umpires provided the coaches or umpires being coached are predominantly involved with coaching or umpiring of juniors.
(ii) the funding criteria for specialised junior coaching clinics has been extended to include specialised coaching clinics that are to be conducted outside of Mount Gambier and the area of the two Councils in exceptional circumstances only.
(iii) the Committee favours the making available of a donation towards coaching clinics at Mount Gambier for highly skilled and specially selected local juniors, with an emphasis on dedicated/highly skilled local juniors being selected for specialist coaching attention.
The number of the most talented local juniors to be involved in clinics is not defined but should be limited per coaching clinic for maximum benefit to the individuals participating.
(iv) a total maximum sum of $5,000 per annum will be made available for possible distribution in the form
of a donation(s) amongst Member Organisations based on an annual call for applications received and approved by the Committee.
(v) the Committee now invites only one application process from Member Organisations in each financial year for possible financial support/donation in that year from the Fund and in accordance with these guidelines.
(vi) a local junior is defined as being a person who has not yet reached the age of eighteen (18) years as at the 1st January of the year that the coaching clinic is to be held. No age limit is applicable for coaching clinics involving coaches or umpires as per (i) above.

The Mount Gambier Golf Club has a small number of dedicated, talented junior members.
These junior golfers have been competing all over the state in golf SA events and
tournaments. They have been successfully representing our South East Region, Country SA
and the State at different times. They have also been traveling to Adelaide to participate in
high performance coaching and talent identification camps. This is all at the expense of
each golfer and their family.
There are several coaching opportunities for young golfers just starting out but once the
skill levels reach a certain point, more intensive training and coaching is necessary to stay
on par with city peers.
Currently many city golf clubs are running their own high performance/ elite player
development programs. These programs are targeted at a small group of talented and
dedicated juniors who show the potential and desire to take their golf to higher levels if
nurtured correctly. The Mount Gambier Golf Club Junior Foundation would like to offer its
talented juniors something similar.
The golf skills and PGA coaching aspect of the program would run once a month for 3 hours.
These clinics would be run by Craig Davis and would include:
• Video analysis – Technique Instruction
• High level skills training programs
• Short Game Specialised Coaching
• Wedge Layups and Distance Control
• On Course Training- Game Planning, Green Reading, Course Charting
The Golf Specific Athletic Development is the other aspect to this coaching model. This
would run weekly with Kieran Ashby.
Please read the attached document for more information.
To be eligible for selection into the High Performance/ Elite Player Development Program,
Young golfers would need a GA Handicap of 15 or less for boys and 25 or less for girls. Be
playing in regular Club competitions and show a willingness, dedication, and commitment
to furthering their golf futures.
Experience/Skills of Coach:
Craig Davis-
Following a successful career as an Australasian PGA tour player and a 12 month stint at the
Australian Institute of Sport Craig moved into the coaching stage. He initially only worked
with elite amateur players working for a high performance program called the College of
Elite Golf based out of Adelaide. He then started to work with local and international PGA
tour players which allowed him a fantastic insight into the world of high
performance training. He collaborated with physiotherapists that work with
Olympic athletes and high end bio-mechanics that worked with elite PGA tour players.
A portion of this experience He would like to bring to the players in Mount Gambier.
Kieran Ashby-
Background in Sports Science and Personal Training. He is currently working with other
local High Performance Junior Athletes.

Golf Program Phases for Golf Athletic Development
How would this work?
Movement Base: This phase is often overlooked and underutilised. If we get the basics right the rest will fall into
line. Athletes will do this together five 1hr sessions over 5 weeks with the personal trainer and 5 sessions by
themselves.
Fundamentals (Metabolic Conditioning & Strength) Build on the strong base created through movement we
work on the fundamentals of strength and conditioning for golf. All athletes will do this together needing ten -
1hr sessions over 15 Weeks with the personal trainer and 20 sessions on their own
Individual Programming Specific to each Athlete’s needs. This will be worked out through Testing and the
personal trainer’s observations during the initial stages. Period (24 weeks) all students will need 9 individual
Personal training sessions to show the programs at 30 mins a session and be required to do 45+ programmed
sessions by themselves. 3 different Individual Programs will be done over the 24 weeks each consisting of 8
weeks. Every Athlete will do three initial sessions with the personal trainer for each program making sure form
and technique is correct and giving the athlete a thorough understanding of the program. Then the athletes will
be expected to complete the remaining 7 weeks of each program without personal training (guidance will still
occur).
