Approved an exclusive negotiating agreement (ENA) for the development of the California Youth

Authority property, identified as an economic node in Norwalk’s Economic Development Opportunities Plan. The ENA was established with Lewis Acquisition Company, LLC. (Lewis Management Corp.)

Approved plans, specifications and authorized bid for traffic signal and curb ramp improvements on Studebaker Road between Alondra Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue.

Approved plans, specifications and authorized bid for the purchase and installation of LED fixtures for city-owned street light poles.

March Approved an agreement for consulting services for outreach activities related to Census 2020 campaign to ensure a complete and accurate count.

Approved an agreement for the painting and decaling of the exterior of nine New Flyer Gasoline

Hybrid Electric buses, ensuring a consistency in the appearance of the entire NTS fixed route fleet.

Approved an amendment to FY 18/19 budget to appropriate funds for the acquisition and installation of upgraded farebox equipment on Norwalk Transit buses to accommodate new Transit Access Pass (TAP) technology.

Approved plans and specifications and authorized bid for the construction of the Alondra Boulevard,

Pioneer Boulevard, and 160th Street water main installation project.

MarchAuthorized the execution of the Low Carbon Transit Operations Program (LCTOP), utilizing funds granted by Caltrans for operating assistance of Norwalk Transit’s new first/last mile, on-demand Microtransit Pilot project. The service is designed to provide trips for commuters between the Norwalk-Santa Fe Springs Metrolink station and employers work sites, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Accepted work for the installation of thermoplastic crosswalk lines at eight (8) school sites and

painting of crossing legends at six critically deteriorated locations.

Approved an exclusive negotiating agreement for assistance with tasks required for the development of Tank Farm property, located on southeast corner of Norwalk Boulevard and Excelsior, identified as an economic node in Norwalk’s Economic Development Opportunities Plan.

Approved activities utilizing Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment

Partnership funds as proposed in the 2019/20 Annual Action Plan, meeting federal objectives related to provision of decent affordable housing, rehabilitation of residential and commercial properties, and expanded economic opportunities.

AprilSelected Margarita L. Rios to serve as Mayor, with Luigi Vernola serving as Vice Mayor for the 2019/20 term.

Held a press conference unveiling bus and vehicle wraps for 2020 Census campaign, becoming the

first City in Los Angeles County to utilize public transit and city vehicles to raise awareness for next year’s count.

Authorized the use of Hermosillo Park Renovation funds for grant writing services for application for Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program (Prop 68) grant funds, for completion of construction as outlined in the Hermosillo Park Master Plan.

Approved an agreement for shuttle services for pilot Metrolink Commuter Shuttle Service

between the Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs Metrolink Station and the Civic Center Parking Structure located next door to Norwalk City Hall.

National Night Out is an annual event intended to bring communities across America together to take a stand against crime, drugs and disorder in their neighborhoods. Join the City of Norwalk, Department of Public Safety and Norwalk Sheriff’s Station at this year’s Summer Concert Series featuring Mariachi Divas, as we join members of the community in affirming our conviction against crime and disorder. If you are unable to attend this event, you can still participate at home and in your neighborhood. During the designated time, just turn on your porch light and take a walk around your block; meet at least two neighbors that you have not met before – it’s the perfect opportunity! You can also make a commitment to get involved in the Neighborhood Watch Program. This year-round program brings you, your neighbors, the Department of Public Safety and the Norwalk Sheriff’s Station together to help ensure safe neighborhoods and a safe community! Summer Night Golf Tournament Two Person Scramble

Compete in our two-person scramble golf tournament where each player tees off on each hole. Tournament play will consist of 9 holes for the Junior Division and Adult Division. The best of the tee shots is selected and all players play their second shots from that spot. The better of the second shots is determined, then all play their third shots from that spot, and so on until the ball is holed. Awards will be presented in the Junior and the Adult divisions. The Museum is currently registered on the National Registry of Historical Places and, at one time, held up to 200 acres of grapes, prune, avocado, and citrus trees. Built in 1891, the D.D. Johnston-Hargitt House Museum is a two-story Eastlake Victorian farmhouse that was owned by Darius David Johnston. He was one of Norwalk’s leading pioneers as well as the organizer of the Norwalk School District. He served on the school board from the late 1880’s until his death in 1917. The Museum contains D.D. Johnston-Hargitt family heirlooms and other memorabilia as well as glimpses into Norwalk’s past. The Museum is brought to life through docent-led tours given by the Friends of Hargitt House. Admission is free; however, donations are always welcome. The Museum may be closed in inclement weather. Public Safety Volunteer Program

The City of Norwalk is currently seeking adults 18 years of age and older to serve in the Public Safety Volunteer Program.  As a volunteer committed to improving safety and quality of life in Norwalk, program participants will assist the Public Safety Department in various capacities to include special events, community events, field patrol or office and administrative functions. If you would like to be part of this effort, applications are available at Norwalk City Hall, 12700 Norwalk Boulevard, Room 15, or by calling 929-5732. Applicants must clear a background and Live Scan process.

Volunteer Coaches Needed ForYouth Sports Programs!

The City of Norwalk Recreation and Park Services Department sponsors a year-round youth sports program, and a successful program depends on you! These programs are conducted solely with the support of volunteer coaches. Volunteer coaches are needed for the upcoming baseball, flag football, and volleyball programs. If you would like to volunteer, please visit the Norwalk Arts & Sports Complex (NASC) and complete a Volunteer Coach form. This will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life! Be sure to attend the coaches meeting to select your team name and shirt color, as well as, review the rules and philosophy of our program. WINGS Program - Youth Empowerment Group

The program will emphasize on developing their relationships with their parents, peers, and most importantly themselves. They will also discuss how an education can better prepare them to face adulthood.

The Parent Project - Parenting for Parents with Teens

You are not alone. Join The Parent Project and work with trained staff and other parents in developing a healthy relationship with your teen as well as building trust and establishing appropriate boundaries.

This program is designed for children, teens, and adults with developmental, physical, and/or learning disabilities. Participants are encouraged to maximize their abilities through recreation activities with a social emphasis. All participants must have a current medical/emergency form on file with the department in order to participate.

Please Note: Although group homes are encouraged to participate, an attendant or program aide must remain to assist as needed. Junior Lifeguard ProgramLooking for a great summer program that will prepare kids for the aquatic workplace? Join Norwalk’s Junior Lifeguard Program and learn what it takes to be part of a fun outdoor and exciting workplace.Requirements:Participants must have passed an American Red Cross Level 4 Class. Junior Lifeguards will be introduced to CPR, First Aid, and Life Saving skills to become a future lifeguard or swim instructor. The Junior Lifeguard Program will provide great learning experiences at the Norwalk Aquatic Pavilion, as well as enjoy multiple excursions to other aquatic atmospheres. Participants will be required to provide volunteer service during swim lessons and recreational swim. Proof of age must be presented at time of registration. Norwalk Stingrays Youth Swim Team

The Norwalk Stingrays is a novice swim team designed to teach and encourage youth to participate in water sports on a competitive yet fun basis. They will learn skills and train to compete in swim meets throughout the summer. The team will be divided into different levels for practice. Group assignment is based on the swimmer’s maturity level, commitment to training, experience and participation in swim meets. Parental support is essential to the program’s success. Children should be able to swim front crawl 50 yards continuously and have a basic knowledge of the competitive strokes at time of registration. The monthly fee is due at the beginning of each month. If you would like to reserve the Aquatic Pavilion for a special occasion, applications are being accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Norwalk Arts & Sports Complex, 13000 Clarkdale Avenue. A security deposit of $250 is due at time of application (cash/check only). Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8a to 9p; Fridays, 8a to 8p; and Saturdays, 8a to 6p.
