City players surprise local schools with visits

“today, year one, your dance teacher will be…elliott bennett!”

It’s not everyday that P.E. lessons start with those words, but students at two Norfolk schools were treated to visits from Norwich City players last week.

City star Elliott Bennett popped into Cecil Gowing Infant School for a dance lesson, whilst young midfielder Conor McGrandles visited a rugby tournament at Bawdeswell Primary School.

The visits, at two of Community Sports Foundation (CSF)’s partner schools, gave pupils the chance to meet some of their Norwich City heroes.

On Thursday, Elliott Bennett wasted little time showing off his moves in a Year One dance

lesson at Cecil Gowing Infants, before joining Year Two for a Q&A session.

“It’s a great experience coming into schools and seeing the smiles on their faces,” said the 25-year-old City midfielder. “It’s good to see infant schools are taking P.E. really seriously.”

Trading in a round ball for the oval kind, City midfielder Conor McGrandles visited Bawdeswell Primary School on Monday, where students from eight schools were taking part in a CSF-run tag rugby tournament.

As part of its school sports programme, CSF works with 72 schools and over 11,000 children a week.
