By Ronnie, Munich: Anyone visiting Zurich for the first time should be sure to go to the National Museum by the Main Station: here Switzerland’s history is brought to life. After fortifying yourself in the Restaurant Spitz (named for the adjoining Platzspitz Park) next door, you can learn all kinds of fascinating facts on a guided walk through Zurich’s Old Town. Afterwards, it is worth embarking on a shopping spree through the Old Town, because the most beautiful souvenirs of Zurich can be found in the stores, Marktlücke and Schweizer Heimatwerk. In the evening I recommend the restaurant AuGust, housed in the Widder Hotel, and for a nightcap the Cabaret Voltaire, the birthplace of the Dada art movement.

Tour Suggestion for Families

By the Sutter family, Lucerne: Zurich is a great place to visit for all the family. We went to the FIFA World Football Museum, which with its multimedia technology is suitable for soccer novices and football fanatics alike. Afterwards, we enjoyed a hike on Zurich’s home mountain, the Uetliberg. We took the cable car from Adliswil up to Felsenegg. At the top, there is a restaurant of the same name that serves delicious meals for everyone, big or small. The walk along the fascinating Planet Trail to the Uetliberg summit takes around two hours. From here, the Uetliberg train takes you back to Zurich Main Station. If you want to eat out in the evening, we recommend the Au Gratin, where you can choose your own favorite gratin dish.
