CHANGING THE CONVERSATION TOGETHERChanging the Conversation Together employs the evidence-based strategy of 'Deep Canvassing' to engage
Republicans, swing voters and disengaged voters in meaningful, two-way conversations that have the power to
persuade people that voting Democrat in 2018 is the only way to check Trump’s abuse of power.
Why we do this:
Traditional canvassing focuses on GOTV, not persuading R’s. If we are going to win, getting R’s to vote D in swing
districts will be necessary.
Upcoming Training & Canvass:
Sunday, Feb. 4
10:30 - 4:45

The Future of #GetOrganizedBK
Since November of 2016, thousands of Brooklyn neighbors have come together as #GetOrganizedBK (GOBK) to fight for our democracy and organize against the injustice, corruption, racism, and bigotry of the Trump regime.
November 2016: 1500+ people gather together at Congregation Beth Elohim just one week after the election.
January 2018: A powerful network of community based working groups focused on issue area advocacy, electoral politics, direct action, and community building.
We’ve demonstrated leadership, creativity, & energy, and built hope through new models for organizing.
Over a year later, we’re thinking about our next steps together…
Shared reflection
• Winter 2018:
• Monthly meetings with GOBK working group leaders explored “Future of GOBK” organizational development proposals and collaborative projects (big meeting planning, technologies for collaboration, etc.)
• Spring/ Summer 2017:
• Leadership from GOBK working groups came together to identify core values and begin to develop a vision for future work.
• Fall 2017:
• ‘Future of GOBK’ survey solicited feedback from activists (300 responses):
• Top three activities that GOBK members are eager to be involved with are:
1. Electoral activity in 2018 (and beyond)
2. Working as an ally with “front line” organizations that organize low-income communities, communities of color.
3. Receiving weekly email updates with action opportunities
• 84% of respondents said they would join GOBK if it were a membership organization and 82% of
respondents said they would contribute to GOBK.
Goals for the Future of #GetOrganizedBK
• Preserve & strengthen working group activism.
• Help working groups collaborate.
• Streamline pathways to engagement.
• More accountable collective leadership.
• Remove the divide between political & issue work.
• More inclusive of Brooklyn’s diversity & geography.
• Live up to our racial & social justice values.
• Support leadership development for GOBK activists.
Proposal for the Future of GOBK• Create opportunity for people to formally join GOBK as activists, with
action centered in the working groups + broader calls to action.
• Invite GOBK Activists to contribute voluntary dues and fundraise to support working group activities, materials, events, etc.
• Establish a Steering Committee made up of GOBK working group leadership (plus some at-large slots) that is responsible for planning, budget & organizational decisions.
• Register as a political committee so GOBK can legally engage in electoral work, while strongly preserving issue-based work.
• More independence from CM Lander’s office and CBE, while maintaining the ability to partner with them & others.
