Abraham Lincoln Union President of the United States during the Civil War. Goal was to preserve the Union. He opposed slavery. One of his famous speeches was the Gettysburg Address. Eventually he issued a statement that all slaves in the seceded states were free. He was eventually assassinated by John Wilkes Booth at Fords Theatre
