    Nestl Waters North America

    Traffic Q & A

Nestl Waters North America is frequently asked questions about the potential traffic impacts abottling plant could have on the local community. We answer those questions below:

QUESTION: How many trucks will travel per day to and from the bottled water facility?

ANSWER: We anticipate about 100 trucks, or 200 truck trips, during the busiest times of theyear, typically June through September.

QUESTION: What traffic routes are being considered for trucks coming to and from the plant?

Lets start with routes we have ruled out. We wont send trucks down the residentialportion of Forest Lane.

WaNaPa is still a possibility for west-bound trucks. It is a state-owned roadway (US30) and is meant for carrying trucks.

However, we know there are concerns about routing trucks through Cascade Lockson WaNaPa. Driving to the Wyeth and returning on I-5 to the Herman Creek exit tothe frontage road is under consideration as an option. There are trade-offs: i.e.more driving or avoiding town.

If the Casino is built, and the new east Cascade Locks interchange is built, wewould use that facility.

QUESTION: Can local roads handle the additional 200 truck trips each day that Nestl says theproject will bring?

ANSWER: Our traffic investigation is an on-going effort that is being used to understand trafficvolumes, possible routing in and out of Cascade Locks, and potential affects.

If future investigation determines our trucks would have negative impacts, wewould work with ODOT and other relevant agencies to determine our roles andresponsibilities in changes, repairs or other improvements which may be required.

QUESTION: How much will the increase in traffic and pollution from the plant influence tourism?

ANSWER: There are two questions here: pollution from trucks and from the plant.

Trucks:A future portion of our traffic study will provide information that can be used toevaluate the potential affects that the additional truck traffic may have on tourism.

Our company-owned fleet in Maine also uses non-food biodiesel blend fuel andhas reduced carbon emissions by an estimated 1.8 million pounds since 2007.

    The bottling plant:

Pollution from the plant is minimal, by design, and shouldnt effect tourism.

All of Nestl Waters bottling plants are built to the US Green Building CouncilsLeadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, reducing

    environmental impacts before they occur.

The waste water will be sent to the citys waste water treatment facility. Or, wemay consider some alternatives. For example, The company has implementedinnovative strategies for using process waste water. For example, at our plantin Hollis Maine, water used to rinse pipes is drained to a storage pond and usedto irrigate adjacent land.
