General Information RegistrationRegistration begins Tuesday, March 3 at 7 a.m.

For online registration, visit www.clarington.net/beACTIVE. Know your username, password and course code.

• If you have previously registered for a program, had a membership or forgotten your password, click “Forgot my Password” and enter the email address you have on file. A temporary password will be emailed to you.

Payment OptionsA payment plan may be set up by registering in person at one of our customer service desks using a VOID cheque or credit card. Payments are due one month prior to the camp start date.

Early Registration DiscountRegister your child no later than May 1, 2020 and receive a 10 per cent discount off your registration fee. Not combined with other discounts. Not applicable to extended care.

Non-Resident Fee Non-Clarington residents are required to pay an additional 10 per cent non-resident fee on all day camp registrations. Day Camp registration for non-residents typically occurs one week after resident registration.

Program Refund PolicyAll requests for refunds must be received in writing. Refund requests for day camps must be received a minimum of three business days prior to the first class. Medical refund requests will be assessed at any point during the session and must include a doctor’s note. Medical refund requests are pro-rated to the date all completed paperwork is received. All approved refunds will be subject to a $10 + HST administrative fee per registration.

Accessible Recreation Clarington is committed to increasing access and participation opportunities for residents experiencing financial challenges.

Fee Assistance ProgrammingClarington residents who are participants of Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program or meet the Low-Income Cut Off (LICO) as per Statistics Canada are eligible for a $300 credit to be used on all approved Clarington programs and services. www.clarington.net/FeeAssist

Our Staff Camp staff are certified in standard first aid with CPR Level-C and create a positive experience for campers using their HIGH FIVE training in the principles of healthy child development.

HIGH FIVE HIGH FIVE is a Parks and Recreation Ontario (PRO) program of resources, tools, and training designed to help program leaders and parents ensure organizations deliver the best programs for children. As a HIGH FIVE registered organizer, the Municipality of Clarington day camp programs are of the highest recognized

levels of quality and safety.

Camper Pick-Up InformationThe safety of your child(ren) is our number one priority. To ensure the safety and well-being of all campers, we require all campers to be signed in and out each day by an authorized parent/guardian. It is imperative that the person filling out the online camper information form provides us with the names (first and last) of all people permitted to pick up your child(ren). Campers will not be released to anyone who is not on the list. For the safety of your child(ren), there is no exception to this rule. If a name needs to be added, contact [email protected]. Government-issued identification will be required before we will release the camper.

If you wish your child(ren) to have the ability to sign themselves out, you can indicate this on the online camper information form.

Government-issued identification is required every time you pickup your child from camp.

Late Pick-UpThere will be an additional charge of $20 for every 15 minutes for the late pick up of campers at all locations after 6 p.m.

Camp Kick Off - Free Help us kick off summer with an afternoon full of fun, games and exciting activities for the whole family. Meet some of the camp staff and ask questions about camp. Friday, June 5 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex.

Camp WearPurchase 2020 Clarington Summer Camp Gear. T-shirts will be available at the front desks of the South Courtice Arena, Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex and Diane Hamre Recreation Complex. Limited quantities available.

What to Bring to CampEach day, pack a nut-free lunch, snacks, drinks, reusable water bottle, sunscreen, hat (or appropriate outdoor weather clothing), running shoes and a change of clothes. Bring swim gear or sports equipment where required. Please leave personal toys, electronic devices, and valuables at home. Camp facilities and staff are not responsible for lost or stolen items; please label all belongings sent to camp.

Clarington Camps Go Waste-FreeA Clarington Waste Free Lunch contains no throwaway packaging. Food and drinks are packed in reusable containers within a lunch bag or box. All containers are re-sealable, so that leftover food and drink can be consumed (or composted) later at home.

Clarington Camps strive to practice a ‘Boomerang Lunch Program’ (all uneaten food and waste material is returned home) which reduces waste and lessens our environmental impact. Many Ontario schools and camps have successfully implemented ‘Boomerang Lunches;’ the Clarington Camps Staff team thanks you in advance for helping Clarington Camps be more earth friendly and green.

Camper InformationParents/guardians will be required to sign a permission form for all off-site trips on the first day of the camp week.

Emergency and contact information will be collected prior to the first day of camp at www.clarington.net/camp. Any changes must be made in writing to your camp supervisor with a signed and dated note.

Program hours: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Extended care available for selected programs at an additional cost, 7 to 9 a.m. and 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Free Transportation to CampWe are offering free busing to many of the camp locations. You must register to reserve your spot - limited space is available. Only available at select locations. See page 15 for more details.

Inclusion Services All children are welcome at our summer camp programs. Please call our Inclusion Services staff at 905-435-1061 ext. 2563 before you register if you require support or accommodation for your child(ren) due to a special need.

Extra support at camp is generally required according to the following criteria:

• a physical, developmental and/or learning disability that may affect mobility, communication, comprehension and/or interaction.

• extra support/assistance is required at home for basic care such as dressing or toileting.

• extra support is required at school.

Please ensure that if your child requires additional staff support, you call Inclusion Services prior to registering. This will enable your child to have a positive and supported time at camp. A minimum of four weeks notice is requested to allow adequate time to assess and arrange for program support.

To facilitate a successful experience for your child, parents/guardians will be required to complete an “All About Me” package prior to the start of camp. Program available to Clarington residents only.

*Families not disclosing the needs of a participant prior to registration may be required to withdraw from the program. The Municipality of Clarington refund policy will apply.

General Information Camper BehaviourThe goal of our Camp Program is to provide a healthy, safe, positive and fun experience for all participants in our programs.

Camper’s Rights and Responsibilities;

• To learn and play in a safe environment

• To be free of physical and verbal harassment

• To take part in all activities in the program

• To respect the rights of others; peers and staff alike

If a child’s behaviour threatens his or her own immediate safety or the safety of other children or staff, parents will be notified and may be requested to pick up their child.

Anaphylaxis and Epi-PensIf your child(ren) requires the administration of an Epi-Pen, please indicate this on your child’s online camper information form and notify the staff on the first day of camp to complete an Anaphylactic Allergies and Epi-Pen Administration Consent Form. Participants whom may require Epi-Pens are responsible to ensure that they have their Epi-Pens with them while attending camp. Epi-Pens must be carried by the participant in a waist pack that is easily identifiable.

Medications If a child requires medication while at camp, please note the following procedures for sending medication to camp.

1. Parents must notify camp staff and complete a Medication Consent Form.

2. Only send the correct dose for the day.

3. All medications must be in its original bottle with the child’s name clearly indicated and dosage.

4. Campers must self-administer their medication with staff supervision.

Sun Protection All campers and staff are required to wear sunscreen and hats when outdoors. Campers are expected to arrive with sunscreen already applied. We will provide time during the day for re-application of sunscreen. In the event of extreme heat temperatures, camp staff will make accommodations to seek shade and limit their exposure to the sun. Parents are asked to provide a labelled bottle of sunscreen for their child (SPF 30+).

Swimming

Most camps will participate in recreational swimming at least once during the camp week. While in the water, campers will be supervised by camp staff as well as the pool lifeguards. On each visit to the pool, campers will be screened for swimming ability by pool lifeguards. If campers have a Clarington Swim Test Card, please send it with them to camp. Clarington Day Camps recreational swimming will take place at any of the following municipal pools Courtice Community Complex, Diane Hamre Recreation Complex or Orono Outdoor Pool. Kinder Camp will not participate in swimming. Kinder Campers will have the opportunity to visit the splash pad at the nearest park if weather and schedule permits.

Ice Skating

Some camps may participate in recreational skating at least once during the camp week. Campers must provide and wear a CSA approved hockey helmet with chinstrap, ice skates, warm clothing (gloves/mitts, long pants, and a sweater/jacket) in order to participate.

Summer Kickoff & Wind Down

Early Bird Camp | Ages 6 to 12Join us in kicking off the summer season. Participants will take part in games, crafts, daily swimming (weather permitting), special events and much more. In the event of severe weather, campers will be bused to Diane Hamre Recreation Complex and return to Orono Park for pick up at end of the day. *Free busing to and from camp is available. Summer Send-Off Camp | Ages 6 to 12If you don’t want the summer to come to an end so soon, join us for one more week of fun and games. Participants will take part in games, crafts, special events and much more. Participants will have the opportunity to swim every day (weather permitting). In the event of severe weather, campers will be bused to Diane Hamre Recreation Complex and then return to Orono Park for pick up at end of day. *Free busing to and from camp is available. See page 15 for more information.

Arts & Culinary Camps Arts Camp | Ages 6 to 12A camp for the creative kids in your house. Our staff will lead campers through exciting themed crafts, dance, and music and improvisation activities each week. Campers will have the opportunity to share their talents and learn new skills. Activities may include painting, singing songs, making music, dancing and acting. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming once during each session. *Free busing to and from camp is available. See page 15 for more information.

New Busy Bakers Camp | Ages 6 to 12 Let your camper bake up a storm, without worrying about the messy kitchen. Campers will be kept busy with activities, games, crafts, and of course baking yummy recipes all while learning some basic skills. Cupcakes, cookies, muffins, bars, or squares are just a taste of what could be on the menu for this week. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming once during the session.

Dance Camp | Ages 6 to 12Have a blast dancing your heart out at this nontechnical, high energy dance camp. Campers get creative as they put together routines in many different styles of dance led by our supportive and talented instructors. Focus is on fun - no previous dance experience required. Participants will have the opportunity to swim once during the session. *Free busing to and from camp is available. See page 15 for more information.

Jr. Chef Camp | Ages 6 to 12Children will enjoy cooking and eating a variety of fun recipes all while learning basic cooking skills and kitchen safety. Exciting activities, games, crafts and creations will center around fun in the kitchen. Morning and afternoon snacks will be created by campers each day. Due to the nature of this camp, we will not be able to accommodate all dietary restrictions/concerns. Please see your Camp Supervisor for a weekly menu on day one. Please ensure you send your camper with lunch and lots of water. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming once during each session.

Music Camp | Ages 6 to 12 You can’t stop the beat. Our staff will lead campers through fun and exciting musical activities which may include musical instrument crafts, sing-a-longs, learning dance moves and special musical guests. We focus on fun - no previous music experience required. Campers will have the opportunity to swim once during the session.

Theatre Stars Camp | Ages 7 to 12Lights, Camera, Action. Explore the world of theatre in a supportive and interactive environment. We will work on learning aspects of performance and theatre production with rehearsing and preparing for our Finale Friday. No agents or casting calls necessary, just a lot of fun. Campers will have the opportunity to swim once during the session.

Nature & Adventure Camps

Eco Rangers Camp | Ages 6 to 12A camp for nature lovers and animal whisperers alike. Participants will enjoy a week of games, crafts and activities all centred around nature, wildlife and conservation. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming once during the session. In the event of severe weather, campers will be bused to Diane Hamre Recreation Complex and then return to Orono Park for pick up at end of day. *Free busing to and from camp is available. New Kids in the Community | Ages 6 to 12This camp encourages campers to learn more about their own community through exciting games, crafts and activities. The week will include visits from some special guests from our own community. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming once during the session.

Kids’ n Nature Camp | Ages 6 to 12 Calling all Passionate Planet Protectors. Children will enjoy a week of outdoor nature exploration fun through crafts, games and activities related to protecting the planet and green initiatives. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming once during the session. In the event of severe weather, campers will be bused to Diane Hamre Recreation Complex and then return to Orono Park for pick up at end of day. *Free busing to and from camp is available. Outdoor Adventure Camp | Ages 6 to 12If you love being outside in the summer, this outdoor day camp is for you. Children will be involved in a variety of active programs including sports, games, special events, crafts and more. Participants at the Outdoor Adventure Camp will have the opportunity to swim every day (weather permitting). In the event of severe weather, campers will be bused to Diane Hamre Recreation Complex and then return to Orono Park for pick up at end of day. *Free busing to and from camp is available. New Survivor Camp | Ages 7 to 12 Campers will participate in exciting daily challenges, puzzles, co-operative games, and team building activities during this Survivor Week. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming once during the session. *Free busing to and from camp is available. See page 15 for more information.

Wilderness Camp | Ages 8 to 14 Gather skills for going off the grid at our new Wilderness Camp. Campers will have the opportunity to learn different wilderness skills and techniques related to water safety, camping, and fishing at this exciting outdoor camp. Campers will participate in the Swim to Survive program, and Darlington Provincial Park Learn to Fish program during the week. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming once during the session. *Free busing to and from camp is available. See page 15 for more information.

Trip Camps New Junior Day Trippers | Ages 6 to 8 Each day we will be travelling to exciting venues throughout Durham Region. Junior Day Trippers will travel to one exciting trip venue per day within Durham Region. When not exploring, campers will participate in fun activities, games and crafts. Sports Camps

Basketball Camp | Ages 7 to 12If your child is looking for a fun, energy filled week, this camp is sure to be a slam dunk. Participants of various skill levels will have the opportunity to learn the rules of the game and work on dribbling, passing and shooting skills, in combination with other traditional camp activities, crafts and games. Emphasis is on sportsmanship, fun and love of the game. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming once during the session. *Free busing to and from camp is available. See page 15 for more information.

New Flag Football Camp | Ages 7 to 12 Participants of various skill levels will have the opportunity to learn the rules of the game and work on activities that develop skills such as passing and catching, in combination with other traditional camp activities, games and team builders. Emphasis is on sportsmanship, fun and love of the game. No previous experience required. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming once during the session. *Free busing to and from camp is available. See page 15 for more information.

Hockey Camp | Ages 6 to 10This camp offers players of various skill levels the experience of a house league hockey camp atmosphere with a combination of traditional off-ice camp activities. On ice sessions will be hourly with up to two hours guaranteed per day. A variety of off-ice activities may include swimming, sports and other games. Participants must provide their own snacks and drinks, as well as lunches. Full ice hockey equipment is required, including CSA approved hockey helmet with full face mask. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming once during the session.

New Nerf Sports Camp | Ages 7 to 12 This active camp will allow participants to engage with other Nerf fans in games, activities, and challenges related to the different Nerf Sports. Nerf Soccer, Nerf Football, and Nerf Launcher Games are just some of the exciting activities that campers may be able to participate in throughout the week. Participants must bring their own Nerf Launcher and mandatory eye protection. Please label your camper’s personal items with their initials or first and last name. Nerf darts and other Nerf Game equipment will be provided, please do not bring from home. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming once during the session. *Free busing to and from camp is available. See page 15 for more information.

Soccer Camp | Ages 7 to 12Attention soccer fans - we’ve got a camp for you. From first time footballers to world cup hopefuls, this camp is for all skill levels. Learn and improve your soccer ability through fun drills and skills with an emphasis on sportsmanship and love of the game. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in traditional camp games and swim once during the session. *Free busing to and from camp is available. See page 15 for more information.

Sports of All Sorts Camp | Ages 7 to 12Offers a mix of sports for campers wanting a more active camp experience. Our staff will lead campers through a variety of sports and sport-related games which may include soccer, handball, ultimate Frisbee, badminton and basketball. The emphasis is on recreation which allows participants to develop their skills at their own pace. Participants will learn the rules of the games, while developing a positive attitude towards physical fitness and healthy lifestyles. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming and skating once during the session. CSA approved hockey helmet required for skating. *Free busing to and from camp is available. Wide World of Sports Camp | Ages 7 to 12Travel around the world of sports in five days. A variety of worldly-themed games and activities will allow participants to develop their athletic skills at their own pace while also developing a positive attitude towards physical fitness and healthy lifestyles. Participants will have the opportunity to swim and skate once during the session. CSA approved hockey helmet required for skating. *Free busing to and from camp is available. Science & Technology New Games and Animations Programming Camp | Ages 8 to 12 This tech camp introduces kids to the amazing world of computer programming. Using Scratch (from MIT), a fun and easy to use multimedia software, kids will have great adventures creating games and animations. Campers will be solving problems, designing projects and communicating ideas using stackable blocks of code in a fun and collaborative way. At the end of the camp, parents will be sent their child’s projects. Campers will be split into two groups where half the campers will spend three hours with the Kids Great Minds (KGM) team and the other half will be spent with the camp staff. After lunch, the groups will switch.

New Junior Builders Camp | Ages 6 to 12 Design, build, and create with different materials throughout the week. Our staff will provide fun and exciting building challenges and materials – the rest is up to your imagination. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming once during the session. *Free busing to and from camp is available. See page 15 for more information.

Lego Camp ™ | Ages 6 to 12Lego challenges, art projects, games and activities. Ultimate build off competitions, team building and more. Join us for a fun, interactive and hands on Lego themed camp. Participants will have the opportunity to swim once during the session. *Note: please do not send your child with Lego. We cannot be responsible if it is lost, stolen or mixed in with ours. *Free busing to and from camp is available. See page 15 for more information.

STEAM Camp | Ages 7 to 12Finish off your summer with a week full of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Your child will have a great time learning, exploring, building, and creating with exciting S.T.E.A.M activities each day. Participants will have the opportunity to go swimming once during the session.

Super Charged Science Camp | Ages 6 to 12A camp for the budding scientist in the house. Your child will have a terrific time learning science concepts in a fun and hands on atmosphere. Campers will create fun and easy science experiments every day. Participants will have the opportunity to swim once during the session. *Free busing to and from camp is available.See page 15 for more information.

New Virtual Reality Character Design | Ages 7 to 11 This camp is for every child interested in 3D Character Design and Virtual Reality (VR). Campers will learn how to create industry level, high resolution and textured 3D characters from their favourite movies and video games. These characters will later be added to their own personalized environments that can be used in animations, video games, and seen with VR devices. Kids Great Minds (KGM) will bring the VR goggles so campers can enjoy their amazing work. Campers will be split into two groups where half the campers will spend three hours with the KGM team and the other half will be spent with the camp staff. Kinder Camp

Kinder Camp | Ages 4 to 5Each week is packed full of games, arts, crafts, sports, and outdoor activities. The focus is on fun, but children are also developing social, sharing and co-operative skills while at camp. Each week is planned around a central theme and full of age appropriate activities. Kinder Camp may participate in off-site trips, special events or special guests each week - see your Camp Supervisor on the first day of camp for more information.

Just for Teens Counsellor in Training (CIT) | Ages 14 to 16The Counsellor in Training Program is a one-week program designed to develop skills essential to working with children. During this fun, energy filled week, participants will learn how to lead activities and games, as well as develop problem solving and leadership skills in a camp setting. In order to receive their CIT Certificate, participants must complete a one-week volunteer placement (eligible for community service hours) with Clarington Camps. Volunteer information packages will be distributed on Monday and placements will be assigned on Friday of the in-class portion of the program. Upon successful completion of the CIT program and placement, participants will receive a certificate.

Youth on the Go! | Ages 13 to 16Join the staff on trips across the G.T.A., tailored for the youth in your family. All trips are subject to confirmation.

Leaders in Training | Ages 12 to 14The Leaders in Training (LIT) program is a one-week camp designed to develop skills in being the leaders of tomorrow. The program is interactive and youth will participate in activities both inside and outside. This program is excellent for youth interested in learning the following skills:

• Motivation/goal setting • Leadership • Communication • Conflict resolution • Team building

• Volunteer work • Career preparation • Resume/Interview tips • Role modelling

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. Participants will have the opportunity to swim once during the session.

Extended Care Extended care is available at most locations each week. Staff are on-site to provide a safe and supervised environment for your children each day. Board games, colouring sheets, puzzles, books and bracelet making may be available for the campers’ enjoyment during this time. If your camper(s) require extended care in addition to the busing service, make sure you register for extended care at a location where the bus stops.

Extended Care Hours: 7 to 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Extended Care Costs: $42 ($33.60 for short week)

Camp BusingBusing is available to camps at Bowmanville Indoor Soccer Centre, Diane Hamre Recreation Complex and Orono Park each week. Campers must register - limited space is available. For the safety of campers, the bus is staffed with two counsellors. Registration for the bus will close Thursday prior to the start of the camp week.

Bus ScheduleArrive five minutes before the scheduled time and prepare to remain up to 10 minutes after the scheduled time.

During the morning route, campers will get on the bus at their bus stop and get off at the appropriate camp. Staff are on the bus to make sure all campers go to the correct camp. During the afternoon route, campers get on the bus at camp and get off at their bus stop. The bus only runs one way. Make sure you sign up for a bus stop that will take your camper to their camp location.

During weeks 1 and 9, extended care is only available at South Courtice Arena. Campers who need busing and extended care should register for a camp at South Courtice Arena.Bus Route

Bus Rules1. Parents must meet the bus to sign their campers out or, give them permission to sign themselves out of camp.2. Any camper who misses the bus, must find their own way to camp.3. If you are late picking up your child(ren), they will be placed in extended care at the bus stop location (if available)

or brought back to South Courtice Arena at the end of the bus route and placed in extended care. Campers will notbe left unattended.

4. Campers will be picked up and dropped off where they registered to meet the bus. No exceptions.5. Send a note (signed and dated) for our Camp Supervisor and Bus Counsellors if your camper will not be taking the bus.

The camp bus leaves South Courtice Arena after picking up campers then heads to the next stop.

The camp bus drops off campers at Bowmanville Indoor Soccer and picks up campers heading to Newcastle and Orono.

The camp bus drops off campers at Diane Hamre Recreation Complex and picks up campers heading to Orono Park.

The camp bus arrives at Orono Park, and drops off the remaining campers.
