Children and Youth Ministries Our youth had an awesome ski trip
in February! We took 17 people to Winter-
place, West Virginia for two days of skiing
and snowboarding. All of our students
made it back in one piece, even after sev-
eral of them cruised down black diamond
slopes or flew off jumps. We coupled our
skiing with worship and plenty of time to
read scripture and pray. Gabe and Svlvia
Hotard, Judy Thompson, and Josey Butcher were our chaperones on the trip,
and they did a wonderful job serving our students. I also want to thank Rev. Rick
and Susie Price for providing snacks for our students on the trip!
Coming up, our Confirmation students are taking a retreat March 10-
12th to Lake Junaluska! Our students will join several other youth groups in wor-
ship, games, and learning about membership in the Methodist church. Parents, be
on the lookout for an email about forms and t-shirt sizes for those attending.
Our children's program is loving Service Quest! These Wednesday night
classes have been amazing, and we have seen many children from the community
join our classes. Over 30 children have participated in Service Quest! We will
have a celebration on Sunday, March 5th in the 11:00
Classic Service to recognize our volunteers and tell
all about the cool things the children have done in
Service Quest! Also, everyone is invited to partici-
pate in our Children's Auction on Wednesday, March
8th and 15th at 5:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. Many of the items the children
made during Service Quest will be for sale to raise money for Food 2 Kids. Chil-
dren will wrap up Service Quest on Wednesday, March 8th, and Faith Quest will resume March 15th.
Looking ahead, mark your calendars! Sunday, April 2nd will be our Bunny Brunch and Easter Egg
Hunt at the church, and we are looking for candy donations! Donation baskets will be located in the Church
Office, the Fellowship Hall, and the Connection. Thank you in advance! Coming up this summer, Vacation
Bible School will be June 12-15th, and the Youth Epworth Mission Trip is June 19-22nd.

CFUMC Preschool “Rooted in faith, growing in love”
CFUMC Preschool is having a wonderful February celebrating God's love
for us and our love for each other. We are also learning about dental health and
Mrs. Lisa, dental hygienist from Dr. Cary Miller's office, will visit and teach us
about brushing and good food choices. In March, we will begin a series of Bible
stories leading to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. We will learn about
spring weather and practice tornado safety while at preschool.
Registration for the 2017/2018 school year will begin on March 1st. If you
know anyone looking for preschool, please tell to check us out on the church website, clarkesvillefir-
stumc.org, or call Susan Weidner, CFUMCP Director, at 706-499-1224.
Thank you to Jana Flury, Bob and Becky Farmer, Sandy Stryker, Bill and Edie Bolton and Beryl Al-
ford for their generous donations to the preschool. Thanks to the congregation for your continued prayers and
support.

Attention all Lay Servants We have received information for the Spring 2017 Lay Servant Ministry Courses. These courses
will be taught on Saturdays, April 1st and 8th, from 9:00am-3:00pm at Gainesville 1st UMC. If there is
anyone who will be attending for the first time, I will be glad to explain anything you need. Come out and
take the Basic Course and you will find you learn some interesting things about Methodism. You do need to
take the Basic course before any other courses. Also, your registration form must be signed by the Pastor.

folks. For more information, please contact Sandy
Shell or call the Church Office at 706-754-2677.
Stephen Ministry: Stephen
Ministry is grounded in Jesus’ command
to love one another. Through one-to-one
caring and confidential relationships, those who are
hurting receive the love and care they need to support
them. Monthly, Stephen Ministers gather with their
Stephen Leaders for supervision and continuing edu-
cation. This month the Stephen Ministers will meet
on Monday, March 6th, 6:00pm, in the Connection,
room C-16.
For more information or a confidential refer-
ral to a Stephen Minister, please call Stephen Minis-
try Team Leader, Ron Waters, or the Church Office.
Prayer Gatherings Tuesday Morning Prayer: Join our prayer
group on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 -
10:30am, Connection, room C-17. You will be
blessed as you pray for others. One hour is not much
to give back to God for all He does for us. God bless
you!
Skeins of Love Prayer Shawl Ministry: Skeins of Love will meet at the home of
Yvonne Heuszel for their March 2nd meeting at the
regular time of 10:00am. Skeins of Love extends an
invitation to anyone who can knit or crochet, or
would like to learn, to join them on Thurs-
day mornings at 10:00am in The Connection, room C
-11. Yarn is provided.
Meals On Wheels: Our church
has delivered meals for one week each month
for 30+ years, and we are the only church in
Habersham to make this commitment each
CommUnity Thrift Store: Recent gifts to the community were
CFUMC Building Fund, $1550; Sharing & Caring,
$400; School Counselors’ assistance funds, $625
($125 each for the middle schools, 9th Grade and
High School); $275 for Homestead Recovery Resi-
dence for Women; and $250 to Mustard Seed Coun-
seling Center. February was a fun month-long cele-
bration of our 7th Anniversary with sales each
week. Thank you for supporting our thrift store min-
istry for seven fabulous years with your prayers, do-
nations, purchases, and your volunteer time.
Fleece Blanket Ministry: Did you know … Murphy-Harpst Center
is a United Methodist Women National
Mission Institution? It’s one of four in Georgia. Did
you know … they serve the most challenging youth,
many of whom are placed there by the state because
there is nowhere else they can go to get the care they
need? These two questions lead to the most important
question that you can ask … How can I send a hug
and a prayer to these kids? The answer is as easy as
coming to our Fellowship Hall on Monday mornings
at 10:00am and tying knots! Jean Hulsey is coordinat-
ing our Fleece Blanket Ministry. It’s no-sew, if you
can tie a knot you can make a blanket. When a youth
comes under the care of Murphy-Harpst, he or she
receives a blanket as a comfort piece. Materials are
provided. Your loving, helping hands make that blan-
ket possible! Make a note, that’s Monday mornings
at 10:00am in our Fellowship Hall.
Nursing Home Visitation: Join us at the
Habersham WEST Nursing Home at 5:15pm
monthly on the third Monday night (March 20th)

SHARE We share life together in community!
MARCH Birthdays and Anniversaries
We don’t want to leave you out! Submit your birthday/anniversary to the Church Office if it is missing from our lists.
Calvin and I do not have words to express the shock, the fear and the gratitude that we feel. No one plans to wake up one
morning with a brain tumor. The prayer warriors from the church to the hospital to the neighborhood, everywhere were and are in
full force. Thanks to Brian and Jennifer and Phil and so many who have visited, brought food, called ,sent cards and prayed. It's very
slow going but by the Grace of God, I'll be back better than ever. No matter where we end up this will always be our church family.
Calvin and Mendy Huff
Thank you to our church family members who sent kind words, thoughts and prayers during our time of grief on the passing of
our mother. They were truly felt! It is such a great comfort to have a loving and compassionate Church family surrounding us.
Leslie and Luis Sanchez
The family of Margaret Sutton would like to give thanks to our church family. For those who prayed for her and our family; to
the Benevolence Committee who assisted in the Celebration Service, it was awesome; to everyone from ushers, sound technicians,
musicians, and pastoral staff, we appreciate how you honored Margaret and her wishes. May God be glorified and his purpose for
Margaret through her witness and actions. Romans 8:28
Brian Sutton and family
Dear friend in Christ, thank you for your most recent gift to the Red Bird Missionary Conference. We appreciate all of the
help that you provide through your prayers and support. Without faithful supporters like you, we would not be able to continue
God’s ministries to accomplish His goals.
Shirley Ann Walker, Conference Treasurer, Red Bird Missionary Conference
Dear friends, thank you for your contribution to HCLC during 2016. The support of individuals like you make it possible for
the HCLC ministry to share the love of Christ with our teens. This past year over 200 high school students were able to study God’s
Word and gain important like skills. The lives of our students are forever changed.
Amy Walker, Executive Director, Habersham Christian Learning Center
Thank you so much for your generous donation. Your support is making a difference in the lives of our children in lasting and
meaningful ways by creating an environment of hope, faith, and love.
Murphy Harpst Children’s Home
Dear friends at Clarkesville First UMC, thank you for your donation to the Food Bank of NE Georgia. Your gift will help us
provide much needed weekend meals to many of Habersham County’s most vulnerable children. Many thanks for your generosity.

The Pastor’s Report
I am so grateful for the congratulations I am receiving from all of you regard-
ing my retirement in June. I thank you for helping Jennifer and me celebrate this big
step. We will have a good time here at Clarkesville during these final months.
This is a great church that has been served by so many wonderful pastors.
Each pastor helps with the next step, carrying the church to the next level in some way. We pas-
tors are glad for those who came before us, and we have trust in those who follow us.
I have always spent a significant amount of time in my ministry helping other pastors when
they needed someone to talk to during stressful situations. I hope to still be a friend to many pas-
tors during my retirement, and maybe to expand upon my ministry to them.
Love in Christ,
Pastor Brian T. Butler
