CLASS 7N NEWSLETTER MRS NORMAN APRIL 2018 JOURNEYS WOODLAND In the summer term, our topics are Journeys and Woodland Journeys – In the first half term, the children will be looking at different types of journeys, from our journeys to school, the journeys different foods take to get to our plates, to journeys into space. The children will be focusing on poetry in English and using the book 'The Journey' by Neil Griffiths to enhance their learning throughout. They will be learning about famous explorers, using maps, studying continents and looking at animal migration. Trip: The National Space Centre in Leicester – further details tbc. APRIL 2018 JOURNEYS WOODLAND In the summer term, our topics are Journeys and Woodland Journeys – In the first half term, the children will be looking at different types of journeys, from our journeys to school, the journeys different foods take to get to our plates, to journeys into space. Information and Reminders for the Summer Term 2018 7s into Prep Meeting On Tuesday 15th May at 5.00pm, the parents of pupils in class 7 are invited to attend a meeting to discuss their child’s transition into the Preparatory department. There will be information provided on daily routines, specialist subject teaching, homework, clubs, sports fixtures and residential trips. There will also be a chance to see the Preparatory Department uniform. School Disco On Friday 18th May, there will be a school disco for the children between 4pm and 5pm. Tickets will go on sale for £1 each nearer the time. All proceeds from the event will go to the current school charity, Super Shoes. Speech Day Our annual Speech Day will take place at 6pm on Friday 15th June 2017. This is a prize giving event hosted by Mr Canwell and Mr David Pye (Head of Governors). It is compulsory for children in classes 7 to 11 to attend. Parents are invited to join us for this occasion; there will be a maximum of two seats allocated to each family. Grandparents Day - Classes 3 to 11 - Wednesday 20th June 2018 We look forward to welcoming our children’s grandparents or nominated “special person” to join them at school betweeen 9am and 11.30am. Classes 6 & 7 Sports Day - Friday 22nd June 2018 Sports Day for pupils in class 7 will take place at Broughton Cricket Pavilion on Friday 22nd June 2018, at 1.30pm.

Attendance is compulsory for children in class 7. Pupils require a House t-shirt for Sports Day. Parents and family/friends are invited to come and watch the events. Further details will follow by letter. Reports The children in classes 4 to 11 will receive their bi-annual school reports on Monday 25th June 2018. Parent Consultations Parents of children in class 7 are invited to a Parent Consultation in the summer term as follows: Tuesday 26th June Pre-prep Parent Consultations Wednesday 27th June Pre-prep Parent Consultations Further details regarding specific dates and times for each class in the Pre-Preparatory Department will follow. Appointment booking is via our online booking system only. Transition Morning and Meet the Teacher During the morning of Tuesday 3rd July, to make the transition smooth into their next school year, the children in classes 3 to 10 will spend time in their new classroom with their new teacher for September. Environmental Studies The children in class 7 will continue to visit the onsite Environmental Studies Centre each Monday morning for planting and cultivating, combined with Practical Science activities. On Mondays, the children should wear their PE kit to school with their black school coat. They should have Wellington boots in school which should be stored in their BMPS wellington boot bag on their peg or in their locker/box. Uniform Children should have a full complement of summer uniform. They should wear their blazer to school, with their cap/hat and bring wear their black jackets on Mondays only for Environmental Studies. Please ensure that all items of school uniform are clearly named. Children are required to wear dark coloured school shoes. They should not wear boots or trainers with their school uniform and open toed shoes are not permitted. Please ensure footwear is clearly named. Warm Weather Please ensure that your child has their BMPS red sunhat in school every day. Please apply all day sun cream at home before school each morning. If your child has pale skin, additional sun cream may be left in school to be applied as necessary. Jewellery Jewellery should not be worn to school. As an exception, stud earrings may be worn, however for PE lessons these should be removed or covered. Class Stationery Please regularly check your child’s pencil case to ensure they have all the items they need. Items of stationery are available to purchase from the Reception Office at any time. Snacks Please provide one piece of fruit or a small healthy snack together with a drink for mid-morning. No crisps, chocolate or fizzy drinks please.

GROWTH AND PLANTS HOLIDAYS In the summer term, our topics are In the Growth and Plants and Holidays.

Growth and Plants – in the first half of the summer term, we will be learning about different types of plants and using maps to look at aerial views of land types. We will be looking at our bodies and different animals to compare them and see how they grow.

We will be taking a walk around the local area looking at different plants and trees.

Holidays – when we return after the half term break, we will be looking at local and world maps to learn about different types of holiday. We will look at the different weather types and climates around the world, and we will compare holidays today with Victorian holidays.

Our summer trip will be to Stanwick Lakes. Further information to follow.

Information and Reminders for the Summer Term 2018 School Disco On Friday 18th May, there will be a school disco for the children between 4pm and 5pm. Tickets will go on sale for £1 each nearer the time. All proceeds from the event will go to the current school charity, Super Shoes. Grandparents Day - Classes 3 to 11 - Wednesday 20th June 2018 We look forward to welcoming our children’s grandparents or nominated “special person” to join them at school betweeen 9am and 11.30am. We will also be looking at the life cycles of different animals. We are hoping to bring a selection of animals into school and also observe tadpoles and caterpillars growing into butterflies. CLOTHES – we will be learning about clothes from around the world, how clothes have changed through the ages and the different materials that clothes are made from. We will also be looking at costumes and clothes for different occasions like birthdays and weddings. Summer fun trip to Woburn Safari Park. FARM AND LIVING THINGS CLOTHES FARM AND LIVING THINGS – in the first half of term we will be learning about food and farming, animals that can be found on a farm, farm machinery and healthy eating. We will also be looking at the life cycles of different animals. We are hoping to bring a selection of animals into school and also observe tadpoles and caterpillars growing into butterflies. FOOD PEOPLE AT WORK In the summer term, our topics are In the FOOD and PEOPLE AT WORK. FOOD – in the first half term we will be learning about where food comes from and how it is made. The children will look at hot and cold food and food from around the world. They will have the opportunity to taste different foods. The children will have the opportunity to visit Chef in the school kitchen. He will talk to the children about food preparation and the children will have an opportunity to make their own pizzas, which they will eat for lunch that day. PEOPLE AT WORK – we will be learning about the different jobs people do for work. The children will focus on the jobs of the different emergency services, medical professionals and jobs that take place indoors and outdoors. Please apply all day sun cream at home before school each morning. If your child has pale skin, additional sun cream may be left in school to be applied as necessary. Spare Clothes We would be grateful if you could provide a spare set of clothes for your child, in case of accidents. These can put in the red drawstring shoe bag and remain on your child's peg. Books and Toys Children are always welcome to bring books to school for us to enjoy together, however please only send toys if they relate to our topic.
