A Few Things to Remember
in the College Search:
• Most students are admitted!
• The average acceptance rate to US
Colleges is 66%
• There is not just one “soul mate”
college for your student. There are
many options that could be a good
fit.
• It’s not necessarily where they go,
but instead, what they do when
they are there!
Types of Admission:
Which Should You Choose?• Early Action/Early Admission: Allows you to
apply early and be considered for scholarships.
Non-Binding, and students may apply to several
schools EA
• Early Decision: Binding Admission Students may
apply to only one college as an Early Decision
applicant, and are committing to attend that
university if admitted.
• Regular Admission: typically has a later
admission deadline, but some competitive
programs may be closed and students may not
be considered for scholarships

When and How Will We Hear Back?
Notifications Sent through Email and
Posted on College Portals
• Rolling Admission: Colleges will make decisions as they
go, and you will generally hear back around 4-6 weeks
after the application is completed
• Decision Dates: Some colleges choose to drop all their
decisions on a certain date, regardless of when student
applies.
• Example: All Purdue Early Action decisions went out
on January 15
Possible Admission Outcomes
• Admitted or Denied
• Wait Listed: Students are placed on a Waiting List
and are only admitted if space is available. Students
placed on a waiting list are usually notified if they
are admitted, typically in May or June.
• Deferred: An admission decision is on hold, generally
for new information, like a new SAT/ACT score, or 1st
trimester grades. For students applying Early
Decision, they may be deferred for Regular
Admission.
• Conditional Admission: A college may admit
students who have not met all the admission
requirements. To remain, these students must fulfill
specified requirements before or during their
enrollment.
• Any student wishing to play NCAA Div. I or II or
NAIA athletics in college must:
• Register online with either NCAA or NAIA
• Request high school transcripts through the
NCAA or NAIA Eligibility Center website
• Send SAT/ACT scores to NCAA or NAIA through
appropriate testing websites, just like you
would send to a college
