MAKE A LIST OF SCHOOLS

4 - 6 Schools

• Learning environment is more important than a University’s rank.

• North or South – the weather does matter!

• Big City or Rural environment – do you need a mall to be happy? A place to fish or hike?

• Public or Private – a big difference in cost.

• Big School or Small School – what college lifestyle do you want?

Reach Schools and Assured AdmissionDreams and Wishes are wonderful… so is a sure thing.

Assured Admission is a sweet spot where grades and test scores meet the admission requirements of a University.

Include one or two schools on your list of 4 - 6 where you know you will be admitted and where you will be happy.

Schools that you can afford without incurring large student loan debt.

application. Ready August 1, 2020.

• A Sixth Semester Transcript will contain your grades through the end of your junior year.

• LTHS is a non-ranking school except for Top 10% as required by State Law. All ranked transcripts are sent electronically via TREX.

• DON’T RELEASE RANK. There is no advantage.

• Schools with deadlines in the fall or January 1 will likely not see your senior grades for admission.

GPA – Weighted and

Unweighted

• Each course listed will have a fall and spring semester grade plus an average for the year. Semester grades are used to calculate GPA.

• Honors points or bump points are not visible on the transcript. Codes indicate the weight of the course.

Financial Aid, Scholarships, FAFSA1. Filing FAFSA is No Longer Optional

School Finance Bill (HB3) Included in HB3 is a requirement for all high school students to complete the FAFSA or TAFSA to graduate, starting with the class of 2021. Students and families may opt-out by requesting waivers. Texas is the second state to make FAFSA completion mandatory. The first state, Louisiana, saw a dramatic increase in FAFSA completions and now has the highest completion rate in the country (according to NCAN, June 2019).

2. Why FAFSA? Universities want to use Federal money first, then endowment monies.
