Course Selection▪ What courses should I take?
▪ What are honors courses like?
▪ What courses were recommended by my current
teachers?
▪ Am I challenging myself appropriately?
▪ What type of diploma am I working towards?
▪ Will I be overwhelmed considering my activities
and schoolwork?
-
Should I Take Honors Courses?
Honors courses generally offer students:
▪ Greater emphasis on analysis
▪ Analytical skill development
▪ More reading and writing required
▪ You do not have to take ALL Honors classes,
even if you would like to take AP classes in the
future
-
English 9 Honors & World Civ 1 Honors Block
▪ Students receive one credit each for English 9 Honors and World History &
Geography 1 Honors.
▪ Larger class of between 50-60 students.
▪ This class meets every day.
▪ Students examine relationships between literature and eras of world history from
early ages to 1500 CE.
-
English 9 Honors & World Civ 1 Honors Block
The English 9 HN & World Civ 1 HN
Block is more advanced than the
singleton World History/Geo 1 HN or
English 9 HN courses.
▪ Curriculum for World Civ HN and World Hist/Geo
1 HN are the same.
▪ All honors classes deepen and extend the
curriculum.
▪ English 9 HN and World Hist/Geo 1 HN teachers
work together to align literature selections with
historical timeframe.
MYTH TRUTH
-
Students will receive a higher grade
boost in the English 9 HN & World
Civ 1 HN Block class.
▪ All Honors class are weighted at a +0.5 GPA
boost
▪ Students receive the same credit for English 9 HN

singleton honors courses.
