ISA Project : Reduce Bird vs Window Collision
Students learnt about the hazards to birds from collision with windows and what they can
do to prevent such collisions. Millions of birds die every year from collisions with glass on
buildings. The students studied that birds cannot make out the reflections in the widows
from the real trees, plants and sky. So they did their part by preventing such collision that
results in bird deaths by breaking up the reflection in their classroom w
The participants were taught about the ways that they can use to help the birds even at
their homes. They learnt the following ways:
1. To choose a medium like paint patterned window film, light weight netting, decals or
silhouettes to make a pattern
2. To apply the patterns to their windows
Our school structure is such wherein large windows are installed. This had often caused bird
collisions in the past. The project members of class IXth went around in the other classes
and encouraged their fellow students to put up posters and charts so as to make the
windows visible to the birds. This has thereby helped in bringing down the number of bird
collision cases in the school. The students had also taken active part in spreading awar
in their community regarding the same.
