The original Bill Graham series ended inearly July of 1971, with two additionalconcerts, one in June of 1972 andanother in June of 1973. That was theend of the original scene at the FillmoreWest. In March of 1988, some 16 yearsafter the original Fillmore series ended,Bill Graham re-established weeklyshows at the Fillmore Auditorium. Thevenue was temporarily closed by the

San Francisco earthquake of 1989. AfterGraham's death in 1991, the buildingwas restored to its present condition,and shows continued. This series, whichis verging on 600 posters at this point,has been going ever since. Theseposters, as were the original BG series,are handed out to patrons at the end ofeach show. This series is often calledthe "New Fillmore," of simply the BGFseries.

Today, in late 2004, the BGF series isstill going strong, even though Bill

Graham Presents was first sold to SFX,and later to Clear Channel. As of thiswriting, there are more than 622 postersin this series, making it one of the twolongest runs of posters in existence, theother being its companion venue BGP(Bill Graham Presents), boasting morethan 325 events. Either of these hasoutrun any of the classic sets, like theFamily Dog and the original BGs.

For the most part, all of the BGF postersare 13 x 19 inches, and flawlesslyprinted on good stock. The list of artistswould be too long to warrant printinghere, but include masters like: AltonKelley, Amacker Bullwinkle, Chris Shaw,Christopher Peterson, Chuck Sperry,Craig Howell, Frank Wiedemann, HarryRossit, Jim Phillips, Joel Elrod, JohnHoward, Jonathan Hess, Randy Tuten,Rex Ray, Ron Donovan, Steven Cerio,

Winston Smith, and many, many others.All of this under the eagle-like aegis ofartist and producer Arlene Owseichick.

There are so many posters in the seriesand it has been going on for so longthat, only recently, have collectors reallyattempted to assemble a completecollection. At about 1000 posters, this isno small feat. This is a huge number ofposters, so many that one person can'teven lift them all! The band list aloneruns into the many hundreds of names.

Paging through them, which I just did, islike taking a trip through modern musichistory. It took hours too.

The art in these series ranges far andwide, from awesome stop-you-in-your-tracks pieces, to the witty andhumorous, the in-your-face, and anample amount of average pieces. Somelousy pieces too. There is enoughmaterial here to keep an art gallery in

rotation virtually forever.This is, to the best of my knowledge, acomplete set of the BGF: New Fillmoreposters.
