Plug – The plug is there to attract readers with its yellow and red colours that directly contrast with the dark cover page. It isn’t large put is big enough to make a statement and is placed in the top left corner and as people tend to read from the top to bottom and from left to right, this is likely going to be one of the first things they see. It is also shaped like a guitar pick to follow the theme. This all attracts the audience as its contrasting and obvious and then it uses bold font and large letters on enticing words such as ’FREE’.Mast head – The mast head is the largest and boldest font in pure white and is placed across the top of the page. Again readers tend to read from the top down so they will see this as it attracts them and is bold. This is to attract loyal readers and potential readers who will see the word “rock” and be enticed. It also promotes the brand and ensures readers know what magazine they are reading so if they like it they are more likely to buy from this magazine again.Strap line – The strap line is placed directly above the main cover line so it is obvious it is giving more information on the article. It is also short and to the point making it more powerful. It is a bold capitalised font in white so it doesn't’t blend into the main cover line and it uses exaggerated words such as ‘tragedy’ and ‘supernova’ to attract readers and promote the article.

Main cover line – The main cover line is a bold, gold font that hasn't been seen yet if the reader is reading from the top down. It has on been seen as a background colour so it follows the colour scheme but it still contrasts. It is a large sharp font which is different to everything else and it also placed right in the middle of the page and over the dominant image making it extremely prominent and more likely to attract readers. It would also attracts Metallica fans as they will notice their name first since it is so prominent. Sub heading – Further information on the article is placed below the main cover line and is considerably smaller font than than the main cover line and the strap line which would mean the reader would have to pick up the magazine to read this after being attracted by the larger cover line and strapline and then seeing a smaller yet still bold and capitalised, white (following theme again) underneath. Which they would realise is about the article and they would be intrigued by what it says. Cover line – The cover lines in the bottom corners of the page aren't as important so are much smaller yet they could still attract readers as they might see a bad that they like in gold and know there is an article inside about them.

Skyline –This skyline is only a skyline and not a strap line as well because it is about a different article than the main cover story. As all skylines are, it is across the top of the page, above the masthead. It is in smaller font but bold, clear and obvious. To make it even more obvious, it is put in a gold strip and in black writing to contrast each other and contrast the dark cover. This makes it clear that it is separate and attracts the readers attention.Dominant images – The dominant image is a full page image that is the background for the entire cover, however the focus of the image is layered in a way to show the importance of each feature, on top of the mast head yet behind the main cover line, sub heading and strapline. Although the image shows he is looking at his guitar, the placement of everything around the image almost looks as if he is looking at the main cover line, drawing attention to it.Barcode – The barcode isn't there to attract interest, only to identify the magazine on systems. Because it isn't essential to attract readers but is needed, it has been placed clearly and neatly in the bottom right corner, out of the way and not blocking anything.
