The family of Syd Hambly would like to thank Lloyd Forman for

Nick Clelland for assisting the family in preparing the hall;

Cathy & Ian Harry; Canyon Lanes for the props; and Patricia

Davison for the outstanding job done on the memorial cards.

Very special thanks to Marg Hendrickson for organizing and

preparing the luncheon along with Linda & Tamara Campbell

and Nora Jacobs. Thank you to everyone that had brought des-

serts and celebrated Syd’s life with us. Most of all, I must thank

the local RCMP members who have been amazing!

Ted McNabb was a man who would try to help anyone who needed it at any time, putting them

above himself and was humble to a fault. He asked that no service be performed in his name.

He requested that his ashes be spread alongside his late son Theo; of whom he was intensely

proud, and it will be done. For everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Ted, you will know he is most like-

ly smiling down at us and wishing us all the “very best” as he would often say.

In the name of helping others, he donated his body to U.B.C. Cancer Research facility to assist in the cause.

He raved about the level of care he received at the Abbotsford Cancer Centre and had a lot of fun with the

staff at that facility. In that regard, memorial donations in memory of Ted may be made to the B.C. Cancer

Foundation, 32900 Marshall Road, Abbotsford, B.C. V2S 0C2.

KBT Photography & Digital Arts

Give your photos a new lease on life. Just gather your photos from vacations, your children growing up, special occasions, weddings (even from many YEARS ago), family reunions, etc. The life events that you wish to capture are

totally up to you!

Just bring me your favourite photos (up to 100), and I will help you select/sort, then will scan them and digitally en-hance photos where necessary. Then I will transform them all to create an amazing slide show on a DVD: featuring text, music of your choosing and some very impressive ef-fects. It's the perfect way to capture your own unique histo-ry and would make a one-of-a-kind gift for an anniver-sary, the remembrance of a loved one, a birthday gift, or

something you simply want to share "just because".

Special Price: starting at $150.00 for this treasured keep-sake. Additional DVDs: $10.00 each. Please call Karen @ 604-867-9358 for an estimate to meet your very own spe-

Letter to Editor: POLICE PRESENCE APPRECIATED: “As a resident of Boston Bar, I’d

like to pass on that I’ve crossed paths with many people who were impressed and pleased

to notice the four RCMP officers in their red uniform at the service for our community man,

Syd Hambly.” Susan Cosulich

Winter seems to have taken it easy on us this year, aside from a few cold days and nights. The lack of snow

has been a relief for most. However, please keep your road sense. Black ice can still form and the weather

can change quickly. There have been a number of avoidable collisions and those involved have been very

lucky. While our weather is mild and the road clear, the same can’t be said about the Coquihalla. Many trucks

will avoid the “Coq” and drive the canyon instead. This greatly increases the number of vehicles on the road

and the likelihood of a serous accident. Be safe and slow down. Your Boston Bar RCMP

The RCMP had no bad news to report at this time. Lloyd took the opportunity to thank them for their Honour Guard at Syd

Hambly’s Celebration of Life. He also told them how much we, as a community, appreciate the way they have integrated into

the community.

As a result of negotiating with Ann Hazelwood of the Hwys. Dept., the stop sign at the intersection of Grant Road and Highline

Road in North Bend will be removed.

The lease between CNR and BB/NB Enhancement Society has now been signed. Laurie Throness, MLA, has promised he will

help to get our building inspection passed.

Upon investigation North Bend Community Hall is owned by the North Bend Community Association and the land belongs to

FVRD.

Other topics discussed: handicap parking at Canyon Lanes; fence and compost for the Community Garden; outdoor washrooms

for visitors; speed sign of 30 through North Bend; recreation centre in Memorial Park; changes at NBCP; and the importance of

In-Camera Meetings for every society. Also mentioned was that Emergency Services Society provides help in the first 72 hours.

FRASER CANYON BETTER at HOME PROGRAM

SHUTTLE BUS EVERY FRIDAY

Starting in February, the Shuttle Bus is going to Hope every Friday. On the last Friday of the month, the bus

will continue on to CHILLIWACK. Due to the vast size of Chilliwack, the bus will only take passengers to three

locations: Cottonwood Mall, Wal Mart and the third will be determined by request. In other words if there is

one location that most of the passengers on that day would like, then that would be the third stop. Medical

appointments will try to be accommodated. The cost will be $30 for unqualified seniors or non-seniors and sub-

sidized seniors pay nothing.

STAND-BY SEATING for BUS RIDERS. Starting February 7th we will initiate a standby program that will work

as follows: Anyone can ask to be put on the standby list and by Thursday afternoon, you will be notified if

there are any seats available. If you get to ride that day, the cost will be $5. Qualified client’s and persons

paying full price ($20) will get seats first, stand-by’s will have to be at Canyon Lanes by 9:30 am. Stand-by’s

will not be a door to door service.

JUST A REMINDER THAT ANYONE CAN TAKE THE BUS. Tickets can be purchased at Canyon Lanes.

Please note that Canyon Lanes does not take Interac. Cash or debit card please.

Those riders who need a doctor’s appointment in Hope, please try to schedule the appointment for a Friday

and the Murakami Clinic will try and accommodate you. (Just mention you are a Better at Home client or from

Boston Bar.)

If you are from Yale the bus can pick you up on its way to Hope. Please register by calling the number below.

Unqualified seniors and/or non-seniors will pay $8 per trip.

PLEASE REMEMBER IF YOU WANT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE SERVICES, YOU MUST CALL

THE OFFICE TO SCHEDULE THE SERVICE AT 869-1831. Continued on Page 12.

“Memory is the power to gather roses in Winter.”

All children need to learn to accept limits and to control their disappointment when they do not get what they

want. Children learn self-control when their parents use consequences for misbehaviour immediately, con-

sistently and decisively.

Establish Clear Ground Rules: Recommended Age Range 3-12 years. Children need limits to know what is

expected of them and how they should behave. A few (4-5) can help. Rules should tell children what to do

rather than what not to do. Ex: Keep hand and feet to yourself rather than don’t run, don’t shout, don’t fight.

Use Directed Discussion to Deal With Rule Breaking: Directed discussion is best used when a child occa-

sionally forgets a basic house rule. It involves gaining your child’s attention, telling your child the problem

and describing or getting your child to suggest the correct behaviour. The correct behaviour can then be

practised.

Use Planned Ignoring to Deal with Minor Problem Behaviour: Planned ignoring means to deliberately pay no

attention to a child when a minor problem behaviour occurs. When you ignore a behaviour do not look at or

talk to your child. If necessary turn and walk away. Keep ignoring for as long as the behaviour continues.

As soon as your child stops the problem behaviour and behaves appropriately, praise them. Give clear, calm

instructions and be prepared to back up your instructions.

Next month the article will continue with instructions on how to get your child to follow your directions.
