Although “kids will be kids,”children are not all alike. Theyvary widely in height – evenwithin the same class. Oftenthese height differences resultin students using tables andchairs that are not suited tothem. Appropriately sized furni-ture is essential for optimizingstudent concentration levelsand learning success. Withoutit, students may suffer head-aches and back pain caused bypoor posture. Healthful study-

ing and ergonomic sitting canonly be achieved when thetables and chairs that studentsuse fit their height. It is there-fore critical that students andtheir furniture are regularlychecked to make sure theymatch up correctly.

In the DIN ISO 5970 and CENprEN 1729 standards, bodyheight and seat/table heighthave been correlated and sevenseat and table sizes have beendetermined. The seven chairsizes can be easily recognizedby their colored dots. Theyrange from a seat height of117/8” in size 2 up to a seatheight of 193/4" in size 7. Thecorresponding table heights

span 201/2” to 323/8”. This widevariety of options ensures thatstudents of all heights can beprovided with furniture thatsupports optimal sitting andlearning.
