The French horn is a brass instrument, related to the natural horn. Circular shaped, the French horn has rotary valves, and over 12 feet of coiled tubing. It is the third highest brass instrument, after the trumpet and cornet, and is in the key of F or Bb, or a combination of these. Most music for the French horn is written in the key of F, and sounds a fifth lower. French horns are typically used in military bands, marching bands, orchestras, and wind ensembles.
