markers• Claymation Checklist• Storyboard handouts• Blank white paper for sketches• Construction paper (in variety of colors)• Manila folders (2 per group)• Masking tape (to attach folders together)• Clay (in a variety of colors—the non drying kind)• Pipe cleaners (to use in characters to help move appendages)• Glue• Rulers—1 per group• Scissors• Digital cameras• Program: Photo Story 3• Markers (variety of colors)• Colored pencils• Crayons• Clay in assortment of colors• Large Tupperware containers (per group)

NURSERY RHYME SELECTION AND RESEARCH 6pts Did you select a nursery rhyme and tell one of your teachers what it is? Did you find the words that accompany the rhyme? Did you research the origin of the rhyme to find out why it was written? Did you discover any hidden meanings in the nursery rhyme? Did you write a summary of the rhyme’s history in your own words? Did you write your summary in paragraph form with a topic sentence and supporting details?
CONVENTIONS 6 pts Did you check your work for spelling to make sure there are no errors? Did you double check to make sure you copied the poem correctly? Did you use a dictionary or electronic aid to check your spelling? Did you check your work for capitalization? Did you end each sentence with a form of punctuation? SETTING—FOLDER DESIGN WORK 4 pts Did you create a quality setting for your character by putting together 2 manila folders to make a
background that can stand up on its own?

CHARACTER--CLAY ARTWORK 4 pts Did you work together with your partner to come up with ideas for creating your character out of
clay?
Did you begin by using pipe cleaners and folding them for support in your characters arms, legs, and limbs?
Did you work the clay to soften it first by rolling it into a ball? Did you work the clay by flattening it into a thin sheet before putting it over the pipe cleaners?
PHOTO SHOOT 3 pts Did you decide who will position your character and who will take the pictures? Did you decide how you will keep your camera in the same spot for all the photos? (ex/ use a
pencil box for support, put it on a textbook, etc.)

Manila folders allow backdrop to stand upright.
One 12 x 18 inch piece of construction paper was also used for the “flooring”.
Then came CHARACTER CREATION!

To Do Differently
• Get a few microphones for 3-4 computers
• Plan for more time• Invite parents to help
out with the video process
Community Response
• Parents very excited• Kids LOVED the project• Students had to use
higher level thinking skills to interpret and create this piece.
