Chinese Cleantech Market
• The value of the Chinese cleantech market is around
EUR 1,100 billion.
• The market will grow at an annual rate of 15 per cent.
• China welcomes cleantech companies as well as foreign
capital investments in the cleantech sector.
13
• Cooperation in cleantech has been a key point on the agenda between Finland and China.
• China is expected to become the main export area for Finnish cleantech companies within the next few years.
• At present, the Finnish Cleantech business in China is worth 900 million EUR annually.
• This figure is expected to double by 2013.• Chinese companies have shown interest in Finnish solutions in
renewable energy such as bio-energy, wind power, water management, waste management and resource efficiency.
• Future innovations are being offered within the fields of electric vehicles including AC drives and automation and in nanotechnologies.

Cooperation between Finland and China
• The Finnish Environmental Cluster for China (FECC) is a project that was developed on the initiative of the Ministry of Trade and Industry to boost Finnish cleantech exports to China.
• In August 2008, the second, operational phase of the venture began with a new organization. The duration of phase II is three years.
• FECC provides assistance and services to companies which have already opened the door to China's markets.
15
• Exploiting contacts made through FECC, Finnish companies have signed deals across China with both private companies and government agencies.
• Finland has sold cleantech equipment, for example, to the coal mining industry, the energy sector and lake restoration projects.
• Finnish companies have also signed cooperation agreements with Chinese companies.
• EcoCity projects are heavily moving forward in China; at the end of June, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy signed a letter of intent concerning such projects.
16
Operating Model
• FECC has built in China a contact network which includes businesses, central government and local authorities, and other environmental sector organizations and research institutions.
• FECC has also entered into co-operative agreements through which current market information and contacts are obtained and concrete projects are found.
• Constant contact with this network, but in particular with potential customers, is part of the process of building trust, and extremely important in the Chinese market.
• The focus of FECC's activities is on the practical level, close to customers and businesses.
• FECC focuses particularly on identifying concrete needs and projects and, on the other hand, on putting together and developing an equivalent Finnish offering.
