and erected on 27 January 1951 for the whole

civil province of Capiz and Roxas City.

Archdiocese of CebuCebu originally belonged to the

Diocese of Manila which was established on February 6, 1579

as a suffragan to the See of Mexico. When Manila was elevated

to an archdiocese by Pope Clement VIII, Cebu was created

as a suffragan diocese on August 14, 1595

Archdiocese of Jaroone of the oldest

dioceses in the country. It was created a diocese by virtue of a

papal bull of Pope Pius IX on May 27, 1865, according to a document signed by Archbishop Gregorio Martinez, then

Archbishop of Manila, under whole ecclesiastical province the new diocese belonged as suffragan.

parishes, eighty-five of which are under the

direction of the diocesan clergy, and

six (6) under the direction of the

religious priests.

country.In 2009, the report of the government shows that it has a total population of
