April has come and gone. At least spring has sprung, the weather is warming and we have had some nice days. The second half of the month turned busy with visits to clubs and units as well as several events.

The Divan made their annual visitations to the Steubenville, Kambri, Kentucky Colonels and Zavi Shrine Clubs. We also traveled to Cincinnati at the end of the month for the annual Ohio Shrine Association meeting hosted by Syrian Temple. On Friday, April 7 the Divan of Aladdin Temple hosted the Divan of Alla Baba Temple No. 53, Desert of Ohio for a meet and greet social. It was a pleasure to welcome Illustrious Sir Eugene Greenfield and his Divan for this first ever get together between the two temples. We all had a great time getting to know each other and learning about both the differences and similarities of our two fraternities. We look forward to future social and fraternal events to share fun and fellowship between the nobility of Aladdin and Alla Baba.

It was our privilege to welcome Grand Master of Ohio MWB Douglas N. Kaylor and his officers to our annual Masonic Night at Aladdin Temple. My home lodge, Pickaway Lodge No. 23, did the honor of opening lodge

and the Past Masters Unit did their usual outstanding presentation of the degree work. The Tabloid training seminar was held and Chairman Bob Stevenson presented an excellent program complete with guest speaker. Prior to the

seminar, the Divan prepared and served a pancake and sausage breakfast to all Shriners and their ladies. This year’s Tabloid Day is scheduled for May 20. Please plan to turn out to work for this annual fundraising event for our hospitals. Don’t forget the Dollar-a-Day Program and make your donation to Tabloid for $365.00 and receive your 2017 pin. This year we are also offering the opportunity to make your donation in two installments.

May is going to be a busy month and kicks off with both the Cinco de Mayo Party and the Kentucky Derby Party sold out Our spring Ceremonial ,which is to be held on May 13, is in full form. Please do your part to bring in new candidates for membership and attend the Ceremonial to show your support for Aladdin and the new members. The Divan has quite a few club & unit visitations this month and we finish up with the Worthington Memorial Day Parade.

Don’t forget to make your reservation for the 2017 Imperial Session in Daytona Beach on July 9 - 13. We have a fantastic hotel right on the beach and we are looking forward to having a really good time. My Lady Cindy and I hope you will join us for the "Fun & Fellowship."

You no longer need to make a reservation for dinner at the monthly stated meetings. A predetermined amount of food will be prepared for each meeting which will be served until it's gone. There is no guarantee that there will be enough food for everyone. It depends on the number of nobles who show up for the meeting.

The Oasis Room will be open on the first and second Tuesday of each month. It will be open the third Monday of each month before and after the stated meeting. Additionally, it will be open one Friday a month. Check Aladdin’s Lamp each month for the Friday date it will be open.

May's Friday Event: The event for Friday, May 5 and will be the Cinco de Mayo party. Though the party is full, you can call the Aladdin Shrine office to be placed on a wait list: (614) 475-2609, (614) 782-2420 or (800) 475-3850

Rumblings From The Garage

In preparing a Shrine service for a recently departed brother and having been in the midst of the Easter season, my thoughts naturally turned to the visit of the Black Camel.

All Shrine–Masons have one thing in common, a belief in a "Higher Being." This "Higher Being" may be called by different names but it is, none the less, a higher being. Psalm 90, a prayer of Moses, states, "Lord, Thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting thou art God. For a thousand years in thy sight are as but yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night. Thou dost sweep men (and women) away; they are like a dream, like grass which is renewed in the morning; in the morning it flourishes and is renewed in the evening it fades and withers." Without our faith, we are finished at death, but because of our belief in that "Higher Being" we are able to look toward "a blessed immortality in the great hereafter."

There is a poem entitled "The Black Camel," honoring those who have gone before us. In memory of our departed Brother Nobles.

When Allah calls, then our friends obey and fold their tents and steal away.To the land where the crystal waters flow, where the Beautiful Palms of Allah grow.

Life is a story in volumes three, the past, the present and the yet to be.The first we’ve written and laid away, the second we’re reading day by day.The third and last of the volumes three, is locked from sight-God keepeth the key.

~From the Anahgram, December 2015, Bangor, Maine, Anah Shriners.Spring is a time of renewal. Let us make this spring a time of our personal renewal and a

redoubling our efforts on behalf of Aladdin.

We now are in the process of staging the garage with all the parade equipment and vehicles. New electrical outlets are planned.

• All vehicles will have a binder. All mechanical problems or needs will be noted. Any fender benders will also be noted.

• Keys for the vehicles will not be drawn out as in the past. When you draw your keys, you will be responsible for the vehicle/float until its return.

Vehicles and floats need to be cleaned prior to each parade. In the recent past, vehicles/floats have appeared in the parades dusty which is not acceptable. When you have time take your vehicle/float out of the garage and clean it up. Let's take some pride in what we have.

Space is always important and the garage is in need of being cleaned again. There are a lot of unneeded storage cabinets, grills, tables. A clean up day will be scheduled in the near future. The last time we had a cleanup, we only had five members of the Divan/nobles who participated.

by Bill Wirsching

The income tax has made more liars out of the American people than golf has. - Will RogersNo one should consider me a "wait till the last minute person." For example, this year our taxes were due on April 18 rather than the normal April 15. Did I wait till the last minute on the 18th? No sir, I did not. I did them on the 17th with time to spare. However, since I had to write a check, I thought I would mail them on the 18th and I don’t think that qualifies as waiting to the last minute. Taxes are a fun thing if you can keep your sense of humor.

A few years ago we took a grandson to Washington D.C . for a special trip. We stopped at the United States Treasury Building and I asked if I could say hello to my money. They said they were sorry but my money was visiting overseas!

Tabloid time, like tax time, has arrived. The papers are in the garage waiting to be picked up. With May 20 as Tabloid Day, remember that if you need a different day let me know. Also remember that final day for bringing in the money is Friday, June 30 at 4:00 p.m. That will get you credited for 2017.

I want to thank those nobles and ladies who participated in the 2017 "$ A Day” program. We appreciate this level of support. This year, if you wish to put your donation on a credit card and/or arrange to contribute in a couple installments, please call Kim or Elizabeth at the office. We can accommodate you.

I’d like to recognize those who have participated so far: William Lanning, Thomas Rice, James Irwin, Ill, Sir Bill Estell, Mrs. Shirley Kosbab (in memory of Ill Sir George), Ill Sir Jon Kinney, Zale Maxwell, Brian Schleppi, Gene Steineman, Mark Melroy, Robbie Hartsell, Bob Warner, Raymond McFee and Kenneth Spaulding.

We thank each and every one of you. We know you do this from the heart and for being members of the Shrine family who care deeply about our kids and their well being.

I also know, having just finished my taxes, the added deduction benefit is welcome as well.We wish you well on your efforts for Tabloid 2017, and if you are not attached to any club or

unit but would like to take part, give me a call and we can find a place where your help would be most welcome.

“Yer ain’t heard nothing yet!” are perhaps the most famous words ever spoken in a "talkie." The year was 1927 and Al Jolson said those words in the first sound motion picture The Jazz Singer. A version of that could well have been the words from ZemZem Shriners upon the opening of what is now Shriners Hospital for Children®—Erie ASC/OSCC. When you consider where we were in 1927, perhaps you’ve seen some of the photos we have put on Faceook and the changes in things we do for kids today. You’ll agree its as remarkable as the change in motion pictures.

In 2016 we totaled almost 12,000 outpatient encounters. That number is beyond anything the Nobles of ZemZem could have hoped for 90 years ago. The things we treat also have changed. We have moved from an inpatient hospital with a narrow number of treatments into a multifaceted offering of help for the kids who come to us. And the equipment today is as different as the movie equipment of 90 years ago. Today, I have no idea how many different ways there are to get TV programs into your home, but it is a far cry from the three or four black and white channels of 50 years ago. It is the same with procedures that keep the child in for only a few hours rather than a few days not too long ago—low dosage radiology equipment, new pain management methods, motion analysis and therapy targeted to the child’s unique needs and on and on and on.

Thanks go to all those nobles of years ago, to all the nobles, ladies, staff members, volunteers and others who have made SHC-Erie the outstanding health care provider it's become. And thanks go to all those yet to come and will take us to new and exciting ways to bring healing to our kids.

If you can, join us on June 4 to celebrate this milestone birthday and to say thanks to those who bring the miracles every day.

So, like Jolson all those years ago, we can say with confidence after 90 years, “Yer STILL ain’t heard (or seen) nothing yet!”

And as always, if you see a roadrunner, please tell him "thank you!"

Just One Noble Is All It Takesby Robert Warner, Membership Chairman

“Welcome, welcome, new noble!” This is what we want to say and to hear others say many, many times over to our new Aladdin Nobles at the Spring Ceremonial on Saturday, May 13. The number of times this phrase is said and heard will depend on the recruitment efforts of each Aladdin Noble.

The candidates are critical to a great Ceremonial. As you have heard said so many, many times over, membership is the key to our success, and is the key to Aladdin’s very future. Now is the time to invite a brother Mason to be part of the largest philanthropic organization in the world. Future Aladdin Shriners are all around us all the time. Sometimes all it takes is just to ask one to become one.

Continue to be active in your lodges. Always let your brothers know that you are proud to be an Aladdin Shriner. Let them know about the charitable contributions we make to the Shriners Hospitals for Children®. Always keep Shriners information with you and better yet, carry a couple of petitions in your suit pocket. Petitions can be downloaded from our new website at www.aladdinshrine.org . Click on the "policies and forms" link under the "more" tab located at the far right on the home page. The Ceremonial fee is $125.00. An embroidered fez is $70.00 and a jeweled fez is $137.00. Make sure the fez size is included on the application form.

Aladdin Shriners membership goal for 2017 is to increase our overall membership by just one Noble. The membership committee challenges each club and unit to recruit just one new noble for each Ceremonial class. It is just as important not to allow any of our nobles to face suspension for non-payment of dues. Restoring a suspended noble is very important and will allow us to reach our membership goal.

Just one noble is all it takes to put Aladdin Shriners in the plus column. Will you be the one to make this happen?

The objectives of this research study is to:• Better understand the maternal, environmental and infant factors that influence breast milk feeding in babies with CLP. In general, a baby with CLP has difficulties swallowing. We need to have information and instruction on CLP nutrition. We need to have a CLP feeding expert on hand sooner than later. As

mothers I think we can all relate to the overwhelming emotion of having a baby to care for and our fear of not doing this correctly. Now magnify that with guilt, fear, helplessness and/or depression of meeting the challenges you must face and overcome with a baby with CLP.

• Identify infant factors that promote or hinder breast milk intake. Studies have shown that children with CLP have growth impairment. The feeding inefficiency of children with CLP results in a cascade of problems. These problems include elevated energy expenditures, inadequate milk transfer, prolonged feeding times and fatigue. All of these factors lead to poor weight gain. While CLP feeding goals may not appear to be innovative, techniques must be efficient and effective. These techniques should not take too much time, they must be able to support normal growth and be safe for both mother and baby. An action plan must be constructed to identify feeding barriers that will guide an innovative feeding solution. In order to develop a strategic breast milk feeding solution, we must focus on infant determinants and assess feeding skills and dynamics associated with breast/bottle feeding skills in normal infants and babies with distinct types of clefts.

• The development of new model/methods of care to better support the mother – baby dyad. Improvement initiatives will include the design of a prototype studio product that addresses feeding difficulties of CLP infants. Knowledge gained will be used to identify opportunities for the advancement of specialized services and new devices to help mothers and their CLP newborns driving their most vulnerable hour. Because of these studies, products can be designed and services put in place to help promote breast milk intake. Advances in feeding processes can improve care giver satisfaction and positively affect nutrition status.

Please join me in helping the doctors and nutrition specialists gain knowledge in helping a mother of a CLP baby give her child a healthy start in life. After all, isn’t that all mothers want for their children—to be healthy and happy? Your donation to my project will go a long way in the research of CLP nutrition. ~Thank you, Cindy.

Reception

RegistrarThe 2017 Aladdin Shrine Circus has come and gone. I have to say there was a definite consensus that we had a fine time at this year’s circus and I wish to personally thank each and every member of the Registrar Unit who turned out to work at least one show. Special thanks go to the following Nobles who showed up to work every single show: Director Andrew Baker, Nobles Larry Bell, Duane Hivnor, and Russ Ward. Two additional nobles worked seven of the eight shows and I would like to thank each and every noble who worked all of the shows they could. We had a truly great turnout and it sure made my job easy. Four of our ladies came and helped so special thanks go to Crystal Gleim, Pam Davis, JoEdda Habeker and Diane Huff. Worthy of mention was this year’s absence of our long-time Circus Chairman Ted McCord who was hospitalized temporarily during the circus with a lung infection. The latest word is that Ted is out of the hospital and headed for extended care in a nursing facility prior to being sent home again.

Next item on our social/work calendar is the Potentate’s visit to our unit on May 18. While I am currently precluded from releasing any details about the plans for that evening, suffice it to say that it’s going to be an extra special event that all Registrar members should plan to attend. Beyond it being the night for our Potentates visit, this year is also the 50th anniversary of the elevation from club to unit of the Registrars by our Past Potentate Mark Bobb. Reservations will be required for you and your ladies and we’ll have more information about this special night at our April meeting.

Consider this to be your official notice of a change in meeting times for our monthly meetings. They will now start at 6:30 p.m. instead of 7:00 p.m. Our social hour will start 30 minutes earlier for those who can arrive early enough to partake. Come, enjoy the camaraderie and help us plan all of our upcoming events.

As Tweety Bird puts it, “Dat’s all, folks.”

by Cecil MooreSoutheastOur regular monthly meeting was held on March 24 and we met at our usual restaurant, the MCL on East Main Street. For some unknown reason, most all the members have forsaken us; there were only five of us there to enjoy the fellowship.

I don't know what has happened for so many to lose interest in our club; we have a great president (John Luft) and I think he deserves much more respect than he is getting so let's get behind him and show the Southeast Shrine Club can be a respected club again.

We have projects coming up in the near future where we need attendance and helping hands. Let's get out and help.

We have Tabloid coming on May 19-20. The fish fry will be on Friday, August 4. (See ad beside this article.) We have our annual picnic scheduled for September 28 and it is an event that is enjoyed by all. Let's support President Luft and show our respect; he deserves it.

We still have members who are not doing well and they need our thoughts and prayers or maybe a phone call or get well card. Bob Lazenby is of very poor health. Henry Morris has been ill and laid up for a very long time. Nancy Schleppi is showing signs of improvement but still not healed. Jim Hoops has been in very poor health and also our president, John Luft, has been going through a lot of serious tests. We know there more of you who are not in great health but if you do not let me know, I can not report.

Our regular meetings are on the fourth Thursday of each month. Let's get in the mood and show John we care about him and the club.

So long for this time; talk to you later.

The results from the 2017 edition of the Aladdin Shrine Circus aren’t in at this writing, but the general impression is that it was quite successful. From our viewpoint as ushers, it was certainly a success, thanks to Frank Swiatek’s imaginative solutions to the staffing problem. Our ranks were filled from a variety of sources, including nobles from several Shrine clubs and individual Aladdin Shriners. As always the Past Masters provided the lion’s share of the reinforcements. As for the R-Unit, seven of the usual suspects were on hand to fill the gaps. Ken Russell reported briefly on his February trip to the Holy Land, as follows:

My trip to Israel was great. It was a 10 day trip and I walked over 40 miles on cobblestones, up and down steps, crawled into the tomb of Jesus and walked the way of the cross. We were up at 6:00 a.m., had breakfast, were gone all day to various sites and came back for dinner and bed. We saw sites on both sides of the Galilee Sea, all the way down to the Dead Sea including where the Dead Sea scrolls were found Then we went into the city to see all the sites and to Bethlehem. It was a very spiritual trip to be where Jesus walked. I've got a ton of pictures.”

Ken promises to show us those pictures when an opportunity arises.Unit Director Jack Bonn has not made an announcement regarding a unit meeting for June—

so stay tuned. In the meantime, for a complete listing of upcoming events at the Aladdin Shrine Center, see the new and improved web site at www.aladdinshrine.org.

Birthdays: Charlie Harger, Alex Garcia, Ken Russell, Frank Swiatek and Bob Tustin all ring up another year this month. Bob's birthday is special because it ends in zero. Best wishes to all.

Union County by Charles Gill

Great Excitement at the Union County SCHello goes to all of our brother nobles! There is some great excitement happening in Union County. Membership is up. Enthusiasm is high. The calendar has been filling and our club is ready to go and serve the Shrine through the precepts of Masonry. We are guided by the light of our Maker to serve, and to serve our community and our children in need through the Shriners Hospitals. We welcome you and your family to be a part of our family in Marysville. As a Master Mason you are part of the greatest fraternity in human existence. We are a working club dedicated to service, smiles, fun, all through brotherly love, relief, and truth.

Tabloids - We are ready to go out and raise funds for our kids and expect a solid club participation as we pound the pavement. While we appreciate the coins that jingle, our kids need the money that folds along with the big checks that can be written. They provide the care our kids need to allow the doctors and clinicians to invent that new therapy, develop that new procedure and create that new treatment to help an ill child feel well again.

Cans for Kids - The efforts are made year round by a small team of our hard working brother nobles. They work this fundraising project to pick up cans, convert the cans to scrap—all in keeping our Shriner kids first in mind.

Union County Fair - We are working the ticket gates on July 23-29—not just our brothers but some of our ladies and sisters too. We don’t just serve Shriner children as a club, we serve with pleasure as a big Masonic family which includes our own individual families.

Memorial Tournament - Many of our brothers are working the gates at Muirfield by checking the patron passes. This continued service and efforts supports our special children in need.

Tin Lizzy Patrol - This is service through fun and fun through service. Our Tin Lizzy Patrol has a ball parading. We have a tremendous parade schedule for 2017. Our Tin Lizzy Patrol looks forward to seeing many smiling faces on the parade route this year from now until the Christmas season. The Tin Lizzy Shrine Miniature Car is perhaps one of the greatest promotional props in all of Shrinedom. The community associates the little cars with the Shriners having fun while promoting good works. Our patrol proudly promotes the Shrine as we zig and zag, circle and figure eight down the parade routes exchanging waves with the crowd of kids from one to 92.

Please keep our ill, fallen and bereaved in your minds, hearts, and prayers. Please continue to pray for our military and our government leaders to keep our country whole, prosperous and safe. Remember, extend a kindness to a stranger and help your fellow neighbor.

The Union County Shrine Club appreciates your attention and your support.

We share your actions to make Aladdin your Shrine with pride and enthusiasm. Families who come to Shrine parties and events soon cherish having fun together. Again the circus was a successful event to raise money for the fun parties with our Divan and Potentate. When members bring new friends along to events and parties, it makes the work worthwhile and fun. As we plan to work Muirfield, the fundraising will keep units, clubs and other Masonic groups afloat.

There are two major ways for you to work this month. First, prepare a petition for someone you want to invite to the next Shrine event. Be sure they are now eligible as a Master Mason. Next invite the same individual to help you work at Muirfield and earn money to pay for the fun times ahead.

A final evaluation of your success will be to meet while you introduce your candidate as a potential Shrine candidate on May 13. For anyone not yet a Master Mason, we hope they will be with you next year at our Masonic Night which features the Past Masters presenting the Master Mason Degree as a gift for the Aladdin Shrine Potentate.

Now is the best time to sponsor a legacy for the Shrine class of 2017 which includes their dues for the first year as a new noble. That Ceremonial is May 13. The Brutal Brothers welcome all units and clubs to send younger creations to help entertain our Potentate with the casting of the second section. Our party follows their original performance. Any member who seeks a role must visit the medical staff before he can be assured the honor.

If you bring anyone from your local lodge or through an event in your Shrine club whose top line signature can be authorized, we want your help to make our future better in the work of Aladdin Shrine. The units and clubs forge together to build, strengthen and enjoy our fraternal light in life.

We conclude this month with two parade events: Worthington Memorial Day Parade and any optional local venues. Be certain you have met Imperial code by having all appearances recorded with the Aladdin Parade Marshall through the Potentate's office.

Thank you for any help which will be given for the Ceremonial and Muirfield assignments. The future leads us toward 2020!

by Roger FausnaughPickawayThe meeting for March was called to order by President Rocky Arledge at 7:00 p.m. and the opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance was given by Noble Rusty Green. Noble Kevin Hulse and his wife Deb served a wonderful meal of beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, corn, and dessert.

Minutes of February meeting were read by Noble Roger Fausnaugh; a motion was made by Noble Jeff McClanahan and second by Noble Kevin Hulse to accept the minutes. The financial report and bills were given by Noble Jim Willeford; a motion was made by Noble Jeff Reams and second by Noble Carl Hemming to accept the report and pay our bills. All nobles voted in favor of both.

Under communications we were informed about the Masonic Night at the Aladdin Shrine Temple. Noble Roger also reported he had received information on how to access the Shriners Village and Web Fez websites f if anyone was interested.

Sickness Report: Noble Carl Hemming had a stint put in, Noble Jon Demjen had a knee replacement and Noble Bill Dountz had fallen. All are doing well and were present at our March meeting. We were saddened by the passing of Past President Noble Larry Riffle and Noble Kevin Cummins wife. Cards were sent to the families.

Committee Reports: Noble Roger will be sending second dues notices to members who have not paid. Noble Jon reported on the Cincinnati Shrine Hospital trip. Noble Asa reported that the door at the warehouse was still not operating and he will let us know when we can move the booth to work on it. Noble Rocky reported that the building will be used United Way and the Rainbow Girls will be using it June 23. He also reminded us of the Potentate's visit scheduled for May 22.

There were a total of 16 nobles at the meeting. The meeting was closed at 8:00 p.m. by President Rocky and closing prayer given by Noble Rusty. Our meeting for April was changed to April 26 because Masonic Night at the Aladdin Temple was April 24.

by Mike HammondLicking CountyNobles, the nobility was treated to an excellent lunch at our April noon meeting. Thanks go to Nona Bounds and Jean Hammond for all their hard work.

With the loss of our friend and fellow Noble Rich Denny, Noble Richard Carter has stepped up to continue to make certain the Shrine signs will be placed at the edge of Heath and Newark. The club decided to proceed with a 5K run to held at Geller Park in Heath on September 30. These runs usually last only five hours and can be a money maker. More information will be given at the next regular stated meetings. Also approved were any bills that may come in regard to the Shrine Baseball Tournament held in June.

The Utica Ice Cream Festival Parade was announced and it is hoped that our rolling fez will be entered in that parade.

We have welcomed three new Shrine club members at our April meeting. I am sure their presence will be appreciated at our projects this summer. The past few meetings have been very well attended with as least 30 nobles showing their support for the officers and fellow nobles. The officers hope this attendance will continue as we need input from every club noble.

The next stated meeting will be on May 4 at the Heath complex where the Tabloid Days dates will be finalized. The dates are May 13, May 20, and May 26. Three different days were set so more Nobles could attend at a site and relieve those already working there. Of course, we need all the help we can get. That's all for now.

Provost by Joey BrooksThe April meeting was well attended and it was nice to reconnect with many of our snowbirds who

have completed their trek back northward. Director Hartsell opened the meeting by having Dick Westinghouse lead the unit in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Following the secretary and treasurer's reports, Director Hartsell presented PP Steve Hathaway, Charlie Linek and Terry McLaughlin with their credentials for

appointment to veteran status within the unit. The various committees presented their reports with the highlights being the

completion of another successful circus and the continued planning for another fast approaching Muirfield detail. Director Hartsell read a note of appreciation from

the Circus Director C. J. Carter and both he and Don Campbell commended the unit for its efforts. Dave Peters reported he still has some positions to fill for the Muirfield detail.

The sunshine committee reported Mary Jo (Bob) Albright’s son continues to progress with his therapy. PP Steve Hathaway and Tom Steltenpohl had successful hip replacements and John Demjen recently had knee replacement surgery.

Illustrious Sir Jon Kinney attended and presented the Meritorious Service Award to Dave Peters for his many years of service and hard work with the Madison County Shrine Club and Aladdin.

Celebrating birthdays in May are Jack R. Bope, Jr., Phillip S. Haskins, Richard A. Hicks, Stephen L. McManaway, Larry L. Rathburn, Wesley L. Riley, Ernest V. Rodgers, James N. Rohal, Donald G. Slemmer, Robert D. Warner and James W. Wray.

The next meeting is May 9. Hope to see you there.

The meeting of the Hardin County Shrine Club was held at the Hardin Memorial Veterans Park Clubhouse on April 19 with 36 members present. The meeting opened with President Chad Hydinger leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Noble Larry Weaver gave the opening prayer

The previous meeting minutes were read and approved. The treasure’s report was given by Noble Kevin Ridgeway; the report was approved as read.

Noble Don Doll announced two possible dates for the Hardin County Club's bus trip to the Shriners Hospitals for Children®—Cincinnati and to the Aladdin Shrine Center in Grove City: June 3 and June 20. A sign up sheet was passed and because of other scheduling conflicts, not enough signed to schedule the trip. It was decided to try again later.

Noble Don announced he would be placing the onion order soon. We are expecting the onions around May 1.

Noble Gene Rainsburg and Noble President Chad were thanked for making arrangements for Simon Kenton School to go to the Aladdin Shrine Circus.

Noble Chad reminded everyone the Annual Ladies and Widows Night will be held at the Hardin County Community Building on May 17.

Noble Morris Johnson announced that he has all the available time slots filled for the upcoming Tabloid Day May 19 - 20. Noble Bud James and Noble Morris Johnson will be attending the Tabloid Day Training day on April 22 at the Aladdin Shrine Center.

Noble Roger Rosebrough recently brought Noble Paul Ralston home from the hospital to complete his recovery at home.

Nobles Earl Rice, Rowe Garmon, Kevin Ridgeway, Carl Musselman, Richard Walden, Ted Williams, Hank Bailey, Jim Holmes, Dwight Frater, Scott Good and Cody Morris were thanked for the preparing of the meal.

The closing prayer was offered by Noble Weaver.

April just flew by with a blink of the eye. Hope all the members enjoyed the nice holiday. The Aladdin Dance Band is now rehearsing for their upcoming dance on June 9. See ad on page 6 because everyone loves to dance.

We would like to thank Larry and Steve for the treats they provided for the "Bring a Friend and Family Night" during a concert band rehearsal. The ice cream cakes hit the spot.

Want to be a quartermaster? What is a quartermaster to the band? Think of a band roadie. They help the band in setup and tear down for rehearsals and gigs. We are looking for some roadies for the Aladdin Band. If you are noble who wants to do something, come on out to a band rehearsal and find out all the wonderful details. The Marietta Shrine Club’s Shrimp Feed was held in March and featured a visit from the Potentate, Divan members and the Aladdin Dixieland Band for our annual gathering in Marietta.

Marietta Club President Barry Taylor greeted the Potentate and 247 Shriners from southeastern Ohio as well as many from our NEMISIS brothers from Parkersburg and surrounding West Virginia counties. A very fulfilling and filling (shrimp) evening was had by all.

Our annual dinner/auction in April is the biggest event of the year for our club.

Marietta Shrine Club's Shrimp FeedMarietta by Larry Coler

Kambri by Dick BrixnerOn March 27, your Kambri Shrine Club paid a visit to the Marietta Shrine Club for their annual shrimp fest. There were seven of us who attended and we did our share of consuming 600 pounds of shrimp plus cold cuts, garlic bread, popcorn and, of course, liquid refreshments. Nobles, if you enjoy shrimp, plan to go next year. It is well worth the trip.

On April 13 we welcomed Potentate Jon M. Kinney, First Lady Cindy, the divan, our nobles and guests to the Cambridge Country Club for an evening of fun, fellowship and good food. There were 22 from Aladdin and 19 Kambri members and guests. The menu included chicken Marsala, herb crusted pork, marinated veggies, taters, assorted desserts, and a cash liquid oasis. Kambri's President Russell McFarland extended a welcome to all. It was followed by the invocation by Noble Tom Fisher.

After dinner President Russell introduced our club members and their guests. He presented Lady Cindy with a piece of Cambridge glass. She talked about her project for this year. Noble Russell introduced John Shafer who presented a check to Potentate Kinney for Shriners Hospitals for Children®. Noble Russell presented a check in the amount of $1,415.00 for ASHAC. He recognized Chris and Kristen Dennis for their donation of teddy bears for the children at our Shriners Hospitals for Children®—Erie. Potentate Kinney extended his appreciation for both the monetary gifts and for the teddy bears and he noted that gifts of this kind mean so much to the children and to our hospitals.

Potentate Kinney introduced our club's divan representative, Noble Roscoe Smith, who introduced the remainder of the divan and their ladies. Potentate Jon spoke about his theme, "Fun and Fellowship," and its importance to Shrine and Masonry. He noted the importance to include our ladies and families in Shrine events and expressed his observation on our Shriners Hospitals for Children®, stating they are amazing. He introduced Robert Warner who talked about our membership and provided print outs on Kambri member list.

Potentate Jon shared the upcoming events at Aladdin. Check out the events and dates in the Lamp. He encouraged our club to take advantage of the same. He presented President Russell with a gift from Aladdin in appreciation for his efforts and support of Shrine.

President Russell made closing remarks, thanking the divan and all in attendance, and wishing them safe travels. Noble Tom Fisher gave the benediction and all headed for the parking lot. A special thank you goes to Tom Fisher for the notes from our Potentate's visit.

Nobles, be sure to read the Lamp and consider getting involved at Aladdin. You can read about our hospitals at Erie, Cincinnati and Lexington. Be sure to mark your calendars for the following events: May 13 is our annual chicken barbecue; June 3 is our local effort to raise funds for our 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children® via Tabloid Day. We need as many as possible to join us on the streets in Cambridge, New Concord, Senacaville, Caldwell and Byesville and need every Kambri Shrine member to write a check to our hospitals. Your club will take part in the SEORMC Health Fair at our Cambridge City Park. Our annual golf outing will be Saturday, June 24, at Wildfire Golf Club. We will need hole sponsors, door prizes, and four person teams. Please plan to take part in as many of these events, as possible. It is your club; make the best of it. Come out for the fun, fellowship and good times.

by Lee McKelveyFlying NoblesThe Flying Nobles meet on the second Saturday of the month at OSU Airport in the white building, south of the old tower.

Commander Steve Hathaway had a hip replacement recently and is on the road to recovery but it will take time and Steve has the patience to take it one day at a time. We wish Steve our best.

Our operations officer, Roy McGrew, is a loyal member of the Flying Nobles who drives in from Granville for every meeting. The weather has to get pretty bad before Roy misses a meeting. Roy just had his 91st birthdate recently. He also was telling us about the time he flew a Ford Tri-Motor and said it was a lot of work flying one because you had to continually keep correcting the controls to hold your course. I took a ride in one a few years ago at OSU and I enjoyed the ride.

PC Wayne Williams and Cheryl returned home from a three month vacation. They were aboard a cruise ship that went through the Panama Canal and then on to California to visit their son and his family. They came back home and went to the Bahamas and on to Florida to visit family. They visited Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida. Welcome back home, Wayne and Cheryl. Wayne is a very good pilot who promotes aviation as much as possible. He is also a good Shriner.

I went to Bolton Field to fly and they sold all the planes and closed the operations there. I flew out of Bolton for many years and it is a good airport where you can get in and out without a long wait like Port Columbus. The high cost of fuel is forcing a lot of changes to be made in aviation.

The Shrine trip to Santee, S.C. is past and I wanted to go but I haven't been able to make the trip in a few years. It is always a fun trip but you have to love golf because it is 18 holes played for three days. The golf committee does a great job getting everything organized.

Our next meetings are on May 13 and June 10. There will be no meetings in July and August. Thanks go to everyone who sent their dues in to me. All our money eventually gets back to the Shrine. Everybody stay well or get well. We need you.

Past Masters by Timothy WardA big thank you goes to all who attended the Grand Master’s One-Day Class and ushered at the Aladdin Shrine Circus. I know that it made for a very long day, but it was greatly appreciated.

We held our practice for Masonic Night at the Shrine on Thursday, April 20 at Aladdin Temple. This was a very important practice. Masonic Night at the Shrine was held on Monday, April 24.

Our first parade was the Pike County Dogwood Parade on Sunday, April 30. Line up is at 2:00 p.m. at Second and West Street in Piketon. Big Red transported those who reserved a seat. Dress for the parade was unit blue coat, white shirt, black pants, black bow tie, black shoes and black socks with fez and apron. The unit van was there for those who couldn't march. They had a nice afterglow in the park at the south end of Lucas Street

Ron Leonard is still looking for volunteers to park cars for Muirfield (May 29 - June 4) and if you haven’t signed up, please give him a call at (614) 778-4168. Even if you can only give the unit one day of work, it will be appreciated. If you have questions, please give Ron a call. This is the Past Masters Unit’s only fundraiser, so please consider giving us a day or two. Thank you.
