PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Over the past few weeks, our senior students have been excelling as leaders of their Leadership Groups organising activities, in the classroom engaging in learning and on the sporting field. Last week student leaders held their first meetings with their teams. Students presented ideas for each of the groups including Peer, Community, Eco and Sport. Our leaders are excited to have actions to follow up after hearing ideas from the student body. Some of the initiatives include: fun Friday, tug of war at lunch, planting seeds in the vegie patch and later this week making friendship bracelets with interested students at lunch. Rory and Beau will be travelling to Sydney during the last week of this term to compete at the NSW PSSA Swimming Championships with their relay team. The other two members are from Cumnock. Congratulations boys and best wishes to you both. We will be watching via livestream as a school cheering you on! Rory was again named as a member of the Orange District Soccer Team to compete at the Western trials, however the fields were flooded and this will take place at a later date. Last week Beau and Oliver P trialled for the Orange District Rugby Union team and were successful! They will compete at the divisional day competing against other districts and will trial for the Western team next term. On Friday Oliver F, Beau, Jack P and Oscar were selected in the Orange District Rugby League Opens and 11 Years teams to play in Parkes on 29 March. I would like to congratulate all of our senior students for being role models and demonstrating responsibility by showing initiative to make Clergate a wonderful school. Thank you, leaders. Hatches Congratulations to the Cooper and the rest of the Stanford family on the arrival of their new beautiful baby boy Leo - he’s a cutie! On another note we became parents at Clergate over the weekend when Chocolate, one of our hens, hatched 3 little chicks. She’s doing a wonderful job as a first time mum and we look forward to seeing them soon (she’s a bit protective at the moment). 114 Gazzard Lane, Clergate PH 02 6365 8256 EMAIL [email protected] WEBSITE clergate-p.schools.nsw.gov.au What’s On? 2021 Tell Them From Me Survey - Years 4-6 This term, we are pleased to share that our school is taking part in the Tell Them From Me student survey once again. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve. The survey is completed online and is run by an independent research company, The Learning Bar which specialises in school-based surveys.

Staff in schools will not be able to identify individual students from their responses. To ensure confidentiality, participating students will receive a unique username and password. Where fewer than five students respond to a question, the results will be suppressed. The survey typically takes 30 minutes or less to complete and will be administered by the school during normal school hours. Once the surveys are completed by students, reports are prepared and in most cases are available to schools within three business days.

As well as schools getting student feedback, the Department of Education, through the Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation (CESE), has access to data from across NSW and is running a research project to look at state-wide patterns of student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. The research is looking at how these things impact on student outcomes, including academic performance. Individual students will not be identified in any CESE publications, and all information will be handled in accordance with the relevant privacy legislation. Students’ personal information will not be disclosed by the department to any other person or body other than as required by law.

This research will help schools in New South Wales to better understand how to improve student wellbeing and engagement. It will also help teachers and principals discuss what works to improve student outcomes. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary and open to students from Year 4-6. Your child will not take part if either you or your child do not wish. If, during the survey, your child is uncomfortable, he/she can choose to stop the survey at any time. The majority of questions in the survey can be skipped.

If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please let Mrs Philpott know and a non-consent form can be provided.

More information about the survey and the research is available in English at education.nsw.gov.au/student-wellbeing/tell-them-from-me.html
