The ROSARY…and having St. Joseph at your side…
The coming Saturday, March 19th, is the Feast of St. Joseph. Joseph was hand-picked by God…the man entrusted to guard and protect the Virgin Mary and to be the foster-father of Jesus. For you, you will never find a better buddy to walk at your side during life than St. Joseph. Joseph is quiet…in fact, in his life, you will find no words that he said in
the Bible. He knows how to guide, how to guard, how to protect, how to love. He knows the meaning of unforeseen events…times when you are worried about a problem that you can’t walk away from. He knows the meaning of being tested…the meaning of accepting difficulties. Pray to him for assistance in your life. Together, we honor him as the foster-father of all Christians. Pope St. John Paul II had a great devotion to St. Joseph. He directed that St. Joseph’s name be inserted in the Roman Canon of the Mass…after the name of Mary and before the names of the apostles, popes and martyrs. Here’s a Lenten exercise you might like: on your computer, pull up the Encyclical Redemptoris Custos by Pope St. John Paul II. It’s about the person and mission of St. Joseph in the Life of Christ and of the Church.Remember, you and your family are always invited to take part in our parish Rosary for Peace…every Saturday at 4:35 p.m., just before Mass.

Ministry Reflections on the Great Commission & the Great Commandment
We continue sharing the responses of ministry groups to the posed questions. A running list of published reflections can be found on our website under LATEST NEWS.
HOSPITALITYMinistry of Comfort
The Ministry of Comfort members respond to the Great Commission, the Great Commandment and Works of Mercy by providing grieving families with a room and meal, free of charge, no matter what the numbers. We have served as little as 15/20 to as many as 150+, giving them one less worry and providing families and friends a place to console each other, reminisce, cry, laugh – just be together at this time.
Practically speaking, I have been on the receiving end of this great ministry when my father and then my husband died. It was a great relief to know that I didn’t have to clean, cook, and wonder if I had enough room and food for everyone. I could just spend time with my family and friends.
Since we don’t meet as a group, we do not have the opportunity to pray together, but each team prays before the meal they will serve.
Most of the families we serve are members of the parish, but at times, a nonmember or a former member (who has moved away) has a funeral at St. Francis and, therefore, the family is offered the funeral meal. We also have non-Catholic friends and family members who attend. They are always impressed with our ministry. At these times especially, I feel they see Jesus in us.
The Ministry of Comfort was formed about 25 years ago and many of our volunteers became members at the beginning. The greatest percentage of our members are in the over 65 age. We have lost members due to health issues and sadly, death. We are always on the look-out for new volunteers. From time to time we have people who have attended a luncheon ask to be put on a team.At present, we are holding our own. At times, members of other teams help out with food and/or work the day of the luncheon.
I think I speak for all the Ministry of Comfort teams in saying that ours is a ministry that should never be removed, no matter whatever else happens. To keep the ministry going, we will always need new members (preferably younger women and men).
One way to increase membership in our ministry and in all the other ministries would be to have a stewardship fair. We haven’t had one for a long time. I would be willing to work on this project.
I also think it would be a good idea to have Generations (the religious book store in Columbus) come with their items for a sale – with Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations and weddings coming up each year, people are always looking for gifts. In addition, there are folks looking for personal religious items, music, spiritual reading, etc. (just a thought).
