Letter of Appreciation
Cleveland Central Catholic High School is a community of faith that is vibrant in
the city….and more! We are an inclusive “family of families” that works together to
bring young women and men to Christ while also positioning them for success in life.
The faith formation and academic preparation our students receive at Cleveland
Central Catholic (CCC) helps prepare them for a bright future.
Over the past 10 years, Cleveland Central Catholic’s student enrollment has
risen more than 47% to a 20-year high of 562 this academic year. This remarkable
outcome is but one of many amazing facts and stories that validate the value
of the investment our families make in Catholic education. The powerful
mission of Cleveland Central Catholic simply could not be accomplished
without our faith in God and the generous providence received from so
many caring sources.
The purpose of this inaugural CCC Advancement Review is twofold. Most
importantly, it is our way to thank those who supported the advancement of
our mission during the past school year – whether financially, with volunteer
service, or simply through their words and prayers. We thank the many individual
donors, our corporate and foundation partners, and the Catholic Diocese of
Cleveland for their leadership and outstanding financial support of our mission.
While the challenges are many, we are reassured by the motto of the great
state of Ohio, “With God all things are possible.”
This publication also serves as an invitation for others to partner with us in our
mission. It is humbling and satisfying to know that our work is impacting so
many young lives. Whatever your contribution, please know it is important to
our school, our broader community, and to the mission of Catholic education
in the Diocese of Cleveland. Your investment in our mission makes
dreams come true!
God bless,
Frank Zombek Leo P. Hyland
Chair, CCC Board of Advisors President

Special Events Summary
Welcome Back Day
The school year began with the creation of a new tradition at Central Catholic – Welcome Back Day! Sponsored by our friends at Third Federal, Welcome Back Day was designed to open up the school’s campus to the broader community while also enjoying the first home football game of the season in CCC’s Ben S. Stefanski, II Stadium. Happily, the day was an enormous hit with our fans!
The celebration began with a gathering of alumni and friends at Sokolowski’s on the eve of the first-ever CCC Welcome Back Day. Saturday morning featured campus tours and a trip down memory lane, thanks to a historical display created by Ellen Fasko Howard, OLL `66, who is also a standout CCC faculty member. Our guests were treated to pre-game meals of hot dogs, chips and a soft drink – all courtesy of Third Federal.
Under sunny skies and warm temperatures, the Ironmen opened their season against Columbia High School (a playoff team the prior season). The fans were treated to an action-packed seesaw contest that had five lead changes – including four in the second half. Coach John Lundy’s troops would not surrender, though! Trailing 23-18 with just minutes to go, the Ironmen drove the length of the field to score the winning touchdown with just 20 seconds remaining.
The crowd went wild in celebration as the final seconds expired. Final score: Central Catholic 24, Columbia 23. What a thrilling way to begin our new school year and football season! It was a terrific way to begin our new CCC tradition – Welcome Back Day was a community-wide success.
CleanUp+Clams
Another CCC tradition was also gaining steam last autumn. CleanUp+Clams has evolved into CCC’s own “Fall Classic” as our community gathers to clean, paint, trim and celebrate! This fun-filled day featured over 100 volunteers – students, parents, board members, faculty and staff members, friends and family members – joining in a day of focused hard work to make our lovely campus sparkle.
The effort was celebrated with a delicious clambake for all volunteers. It was also the perfect prelude to a jam-packed Ironmen’s football game in Stefanski Stadium. Under a gorgeous blue sky, the team faced North Coast rival Holy Name High School in a wild 56-42 shootout to determine league’s White Division champion.
Thanks to the strong support of our corporate sponsors, the good work and cheer also generated over $35,000 in tuition assistance for CCC families.
The 2011-12 school year at Cleveland Central Catholic was exceptional in many ways. The year combined things old and new, drawing people, attention and financial support to the mission of Catholic education. Here is a brief recap of CCC’s three principal special events for 2011-12, Welcome Back Day, CleanUp+Clams, and the 9th Annual Calcutta Auction. We are most grateful to all those who helped make these events so special to our community – especially the leadership of our board members, the outstanding support of our corporate sponsors, the alumni and friends who attend and help us celebrate our school, and all the volunteers who selflessly share their time, talent and treasure to ensure our success. Thank you!

Calcutta Auction
The 9th Annual Calcutta Auction was another huge success – and big boost to CCC’s bottom line! The Calcutta Committee again did a fabulous job of making this a stellar event, while adding in a few new twists. It is no wonder that Calcutta has become Cleveland Central Catholic’s signature fundraising event!
On Wednesday, March 14, 2012, over 265 people packed the Wasmer Ironman Center for a night celebrating our school and our students. We were blessed with a lovely evening, great food, good company, a fun and productive (silent and live) auction and much goodwill.
The annual bash, held on the eve of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament continues to draw people to CCC and its mission. Guests have the chance to chat with our students while purchasing whistles (yes, it’s a total basketball theme!), bid on various silent auction items or participate in a
raucous live auction that is always competitive and fun. Altogether, Calcutta 2012 raised over $115,000 – the proceeds of which are used for tuition assistance for our families.
One new highlight was the on-line “pre-game” raffle of a luxurious four-bedroom home in Hilton Head, SC. The home was a big hit and generated over $7,000 toward the cause.
The 10th Annual Calcutta Auction will be held on March 20, 2013 in the Ironman Center. Please plan on helping us celebrate this very special milestone!
