Smooth start
A smooth start for all last week as we
quickly settled back into the routines
of school life.
Kitchen/Garden
We had a wonderful first day back
after the break. We found the garden
looking beautiful and plentiful. First
up we harvested our veggies for
John, picking lots of lovely salad
greens, some big potatoes, lots of
silver beet, herbs and spring onions.
We then planted plenty of leeks,
celery, coriander, and calendula.We
are also trailing a winter potato crop.
After planting, we continued with our
fence weaving using sticks from our
pruned fruit trees. We have however,
nearly run out of long straight sticks
and would love some more if anyone
has, or is, going to do some winter
pruning.
We seem to have an abundance of
curly kale and cauliflower seedlings
at the moment, (left over from our
market stall) so if anyone would like
to take some home to grow, please
come and grab them! Huge thanks to
Bree for her expert weaving skills!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY To Rhys who celebrated
His birthday today!
Lunch was delicious with an emphasis
on a few new Japanese flavours. We
started with a spicy and warming
pumpkin soup, followed by
okonomiyaki - a Japanese vegetable
pancake topped with Bonito (flaked
dried tuna), and a daikon salad with a
miso dressing. Alongside these we ate
roast potatoes and jerusalem artichokes
with lots of fresh herbs, a silverbeet and
blue cheese gratin, as well as a very
pretty garden salad with sorrel, rocket,
mitzuna, lettuce and edible flower
petals.

One week back and we are back into the swing of things. Learning in literacy last
week included how to structure writing a recount, learning spelling choices for
the "or" sound and continuing on with our spelling and reading programs. In
maths we reviewed our work on time from before the holidays, focusing on
"quarter to" and "quarter past". This week we start looking at money by exploring
coins and notes, and setting up a shop. Please send jackets, beanies, scarves etc
for the chilly weather. The children still love to play outside!
Thanks,
Kat
This morning we had a very special visitor. We welcomed Cooper’s mum and his
new little brother Eli.
Friday Fang
Our first Friday Fang of the term will
run this Friday. Please have all
orders in by Thursday morning.
TUCKSHOP Grade 5s will be running tuckshop tomorrow– bring a little money for a morning treat.
Fundraising: Clifton Creek Primary School Cookbooks only $10.00– a great gift idea.
Drumbeat
On Thursday we went to
Nicholson.PS to do some drumming.
We talked about rhythms and how
they are part of our life. I am
looking forward to going again this
week. Steph.
This week our
theme will be
healthy
relationships.
Joining the Chorus Update.
A big thankyou to Dave for organising our accommodation and parking for
Joining the Chorus. We anticipate there will be a cost of $120.00 per
student. This will cover accommodation, travel and most meals. A
confirmation letter will be sent home as soon as possible.
Teaching and Learning
Last week the teachers and I met and set new literacy and numeracy targets
for all students. We are really pleased with the progress of our students. We
will continue to provided individual targeted learning for all our students
A very creative design made by Jayden using tessellated shapes.
...CALLING OLD MOBILE
PHONES—keep sending
them in!
It was fantastic to see everyone refreshed and ready to resume their
learning after the school holidays. Numeracy saw the focus on short
division and long multiplication. Literacy covered some recount and
narrative writing, soundwaves, spelling and Marc Van. Problem solv-
ing consisted of a leg challenge and some Rebus puzzles. A very
warm welcome back to Ella-May, who will be finishing the year of
with us. It was great to see a new Environmental team start up; hope-
fully they are able to lead by example. I am looking forward to an-
other productive week. Dave.
