EVERYONE NEEDS A “NEW BEGINNING”
RESEARCH SAYS A LOT
ABOUT BEHAVIOR AND
SUSPENSIONS/EXPULSIONS?
http://www.iasp.org/ingram/october.pdf
Experts who study behavior change agree that long-lasting change is most likely
when it’s self-motivated and rooted in positive thinking. In October 2006, the
Economic and Social Research Council, a British research group, released
findings on 129 different studies of behavior change strategies. The survey
confirmed that the least effective strategies were those that aroused fear or regret in the person attempting to make a change.

Maxwell Maltz was a plastic surgeon in the 1950s when he began noticing a strange pattern among his patients.
When Dr. Maltz would perform an operation — like a nose job, for example — he
found that it would take the patient about 21 days to get used to seeing their
new face. Similarly, when a patient had an arm or a leg amputated, Maltz
noticed that the patient would sense a phantom limb for about 21 days before adjusting to the new situation.
These experiences prompted Maltz to think about his own adjustment period to
changes and new behaviors, and he noticed that it also took himself about 21
days to form a new habit. Maltz wrote about these experiences and said,
“These, and many other commonly observed phenomena tend to show that it
requires a minimum of about 21 days for an old mental image to dissolve and a new one to jell.”

Parent UniversityPurpose: As part of our ongoing process of improvement, we are striving
to increase parent engagement and involvement in their child's schooling
We are striving to intentionally connect and partner with them to provide
parenting support and encouragement.
Method: In order to facilitate this process, we have developed Parent
University, a 6 session family enrichment program, to be held in the
evenings, with the goal of bringing families together: to eat, for parent
support/education, and for a time of family enrichment through various
activities to fulfill two purposes: 1. Modeling family time together by
sharing a meal served family style, as well as a family activity, and 2. A
parent support activity designed to encourage parents in the difficult task of raising children.
