climate services and decarbonisation
TRANSCRIPT
Towards a low-carbon Europe (SC5-6-2016)
Pathways towards the decarbonisation and resilience of the European economy in the timeframe 2030-2050 and beyond
(Research an innovation action)
Objective of the topic: to map out alternative decarbonisation trajectories, with their inherent cross-sectoral trade-offs and socio-economic implications, that will be available for Europe between 2030-2050 and beyond in line with the EU's medium and long-term mitigation targets.
Sub-topics in 2016: SC5-6a) Managing technology transitionSC5-6b) Assessment of the global mitigation efforts in the perspective of
the long-term climate goal
SC5-6a) Managing technology transition
Objective of the sub-topic: to explore the different aspects (such as innovation, industrial and trade impact, investment and regulatory needs…) of the challenge of low-carbon transition and their socio-economic and environmental implications.
Expected impact: to contribute to the design of post-2030 decarbonisation pathways in Europe through
the in-depth analysis of the technology change landscape in different sectors;to develop further modelling tools that can support decision-making on highly complex and inter-linked matters.
Number of projects funded: 3-4
SC5-6b) Assessment of the global mitigation efforts in the perspective of the long-term climate goal
Objective of the sub-topic: to analyse the adequacy of the COP21 outcomes from the perspective of the long-term goal and explore the available pathways for
achieving the below 2°C target; to analyse the opportunities and constrains on EU climate action in the post-
COP21 landscape.Expected impact: to define the level of future global and regional climate actions needed for achieving the long term goal;
to boost international cooperation with major emitting countries.Number of projects funded: 1-2
